It's 100 combined. I think I'd die if I had to do 100 for each set, LOL!

Good job. You can do it. So is your goal to do 100 all at once? Or 100 in sets? WOW in either case.

100 Pushup Challenge (take 2) - Day 1

Thursday, February 04, 2010

I started the 100 Pushup Challenge yesterday. I started it last fall sometime, got up to about 25 pushups, then slacked off and got lazy :(

So, in honor of the upcoming spring and summer body baring season, I'm vowing to complete the program once and for all and get fabulous arms and shoulders.

Yesterday was day one. When you first start, you take what they call an "exhaustion test". You pretty much do however many pushups (military style, not on your knees!) that you can do. However many you finish with, they then give you a corresponding workout to work your way up to 100 at a time.

I like the fact that it's customized to accomodate all fitness levels. They make it so that someone who can only do one pushup at first does not get the same program that a person who can already do 20 will. Makes sense.

I was able to do 7, so they take that number and give you a corresponding number of pushups you're supposed to do for the first 4 sets, and then for the 5th set, tell you a minimum that you should do. I think you're supposed to rest for either 30 seconds or a minute between each set.

So for day one for me, I had to do

Set 1 - 6
Set 2 - 6
Set 3 - 4
Set 4 - 4
Set 5 - minimum of 5

My official totals - Day 1 were
Set 1 - 6
Set 2 - 6
Set 3 - 4
Set 4 - 4
Set 5 - 7

I did two over the minimum, which I'm happy with. I've never had great upper body strength, so here's hoping this will help! Pushups have always been hard for me, so I'll feel great if I can accomplish this.

How do you join the 100 push up challenge?
Sounds like a great goal to work toward!

Our 18 year old GD was in the ROTC and she could out do all of the big guys with her push ups. She is only 5' tall and maybe 100 lbs...

Training in the winter is hard!

Friday, January 29, 2010

Man, it is just so hard for me to get motivated to get my runs in during this cold weather!

I'm training for a half marathon in the middle of March, so I don't have too much time to be slacking off on my training. Shorter 2-3 milers I can do on the treadmill fine, but anything longer than that, I need to do them outside. I had a 7 miler planned for yesterday after work, but it was just so darn windy and cold, I just couldn't force myself to do it. It's not so much even the cold really, as it is the wind. The wind just kills me.

So, I absolutely need to do it today. My plan is to go to gym during my lunch hour, and get about 3 miles in on the treadmill, then when I get home from work, I'll only have to do 4 miles instead of the whole 7. Ideally, I don't like to split up my mileage like that, but as long as I keep getting my long runs in on Sundays, I'll be okay.

I'm so ready for the warmer weather!

I hate running in the cold. Here's hoping there's some warmer weather coming soon soon! emoticon emoticon

I can relate completely! I've a 12 miler on Sunday and it's freakin' cold. No way could I do that on a treadmill though. I'd have to be committed when I was done!

I feel your pain. I hate running on the treadmill but I hate the cold more. Luckily my HM isn't until May so I'm only up to 5 miles. But next month I have 6, 7, and 8 mile runs so I'm really hoping for some warm weather.
HALLELUL 1/29/2010 3:04PM

Our group has been training in the cold too. Thankfully the worst weather so far has been after affects or very light snow. Layering in 'wicking' clothes has really helped me stay warm, but I'm with you on the wind...that's a different tackle.
JLPNURSE 1/29/2010 12:04PM

I hear you! Running on the treadmill is boring and it's too cold outside!
HYPNOTURKEY 1/29/2010 10:47AM

I'm in the same boat with you. I live in PA and the winter weather can be very unpredictable. In March, I'm doing the VA Beach Half Marathon and also need to rack up those miles outside. Mostly I tell myself that I am building mental as well as physical endurance that will help me in the race.

Can you start out running into the wind and then having it blow you back home? I also read somewhere that you should imagine yourself as a knife cutting through the wind.

Good luck and bundle up!

Goals for 2010

Friday, January 01, 2010

These are my athletic goals for 2010!

1. Complete one or two more half marathons (I'm registered for one already)
2. swim at least twice a week
3. really work on my flip turns
4. complete another duathlon or two
5. complete my first open water swim triathlon (already registered)
6. Finish a half in under 2 hours (don't know if this is doable this year or not, but I'm going to try!)
7. workout consistently 5-6 days a week
8. learn to use the cages on my bike pedals. It scares me to feel "locked in" like that, so it's something I just need to practice doing, and get over it
9. get my weight down 5 or so pounds where it should be

and the big one...

10. run my first full marathon in October!
