2010 Goals - Making Organization a Priority in my Goals!

Monday, December 28, 2009

Stephanie’s 2010 Goals
In looking at my goals for the year it is clear that this is a year of making organization a priority! Organization in planning my workout schedules, eating and drinking choices, cleaning/fixing up the house, helping kids with school work and preparing for Christmas. Yes, looking at my goals, 2010 revolves around making organization a priority.

2010 will be the year I re-focus and reclaim my health.
1: I will make monthly goals with rewards and track them. This includes incorporating team challenges on my calendar and doing them!

2: I will experiment with food to enrich my and my family’s life.
a) I will make a new recipe each week for the family.
b) I will bog about the recipe.
c) If recipe is a success, it will be added to my, Donna & Preston’s recipe books.

2: I will loose 30 pounds this year by eating within my calorie range, drinking water & eating more fruits/veggies!

4: I will increase my endurance this year! By the end of the year I will to be able to walk/run 5 miles at one time with minimum effort.

5: I will regain and increase my overall strength through consistent weight training.

6: I will incorporate a weekly stress reducing activity into my life: yoga or Pilates or some other relaxation.

7: I will create and maintain a training schedule with Rocky with the goal being at least one horse show this year.

8: I will enrich my life spiritually this year finding a new church and attending services.

9: I will continue to support Komen's Race for the Cure by volunteering at the MD Affiliate and participating 2-3 races.

In 2010 I will have my much desired Magical Christmas!
Every year I dream of an unrushed, magical Christmas just like the ones I remember growing up, with a decorated house, lights to enjoy in and out, presents wrapped, packages and cards mailed early, cookies for Santa cooked and candle light service at church. I want to make those memories for my children and with only a few years left of them being kids this will be a priority this year. So here are the goals to make this happen.

1: I will create a saving schedule so that I will have “extra” money to buy decorations and presents.

2: I will make inside organization, cleaning and repairing projects a priority throughout the year so that the dining room and basement can be used for something other than storage and all my Christmas decorations can be used!

3: I will make outside projects a priority to create a yard that we can be proud of and a setting for magical decorations.

4: Christmas Cards and Presents will be mailed by Friday, December 17th!

5: 2010 will be our first year of having a Christmas/Winter Solstice Party!

During the first week in January I will take measurements and turn many of the above items into specific goals and post them. I might even take some before pictures of various parts of the house.

Steph

Wow! This is really an ambitious plan! I really like nos. 1-5. I, too, intend to improve my fitness in 2010, and to get some of my unwanted weight off.
Good for you!!!

Wishing on Star Update

Monday, December 28, 2009

OK as the year closes it is time to reflect on last years goals - the good, bad and ugly.

Wish #1 is to be 10% healthier by the end of the year. Well I started out good on this wish then it turned ugly at the end. I realised this month that for me goals without planning/scheduling/tracking just don't happen. Lesson learned!
Part of this goal was continueing to support Komen's Race for the Cure by volunteering more and participating in their local events. This one I did OK with during 2009. I participated in the Global Race for Cure in DC increasing my time on that course. I volunteered for pre-race activities for MD Race for Cure, but missed the race due to being sick.

Wish #2 is to have a magical, non-rushed Christmas in 2009. Well some of this I achieved and some will be added to next year. I did very well in saving money, wrapping, decorating house. Not so good on cleaning basement so we could have a party.

Now to look at what I was successful on and what needs work and create a new Wishing on Me in 2010!

Time Travel

Sunday, July 12, 2009

Some say that time travel isn’t possible. I say that each of us does it daily.

It is the smell of my mother’s favorite flower, hibiscus floating through the air in the grocery store and I'm suddenly taken back to a time when she was still walking this earth.

Some say that time travel isn’t possible. I say that each of us does it daily.

It is the sound of a snap that takes me back to those summer days long ago to relive the laughter we all shared when my friend snapped grandpa’s red suspenders or to grandma’s kitchen with a bowl of green beans perched on my lap slowly filling up as we snapped off the ends.

Some say that time travel isn’t possible. I say that each of us does it daily.

It is the smell of sawdust and I am once again an excited 12 years old filling up a wheel barrow with sawdust to fill my pony’s stall in preparation for the fair.

Some say that time travel isn’t possible. I say that each of us does it daily.
It is the first snow of the year and I am transported back to the home I grew up and struggling to put on snow gear to play in the snow with my brother. Or getting caught in a rain storm and the feel of wet socks and I am a fifth grader once again waiting to go into the classroom so that I can place my wet socks on the heater with others to dry.

Some say that time travel isn’t possible. I say that each of us does it each and every day of our life.

July 2009 - Making Opportunities!

Thursday, July 02, 2009

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door", Milton Berle.

I received this quote on the daily email I receive from sparks last week. How do they seem to know exactly what you need to hear? I realized that I had put away that door several months ago and was using that as an excuse not to do what I needed to do to countinue my journey.

So I am dedicating July to "building Doors for Opportunity" Opportunity to improve my self esteem, opportunities to eat right, opportunities to exercise (bathroom pushups here I come) opportunities to drink water, opportunities to play with the family, opportunities to ride my horse more. Everywhere I turn this month I'm looking for an opportunity to improve my life!

Now to motivate myself to look for opportunities I need some goals and starting places to see how I'm doing.
1. Weight 222.5 - goal lose 8 pounds or get to 214.5. Ok this is a big goal, but it is in line with a new team I've on and well maybe if I make a tough goal it will be more motivating than my normal 5-6 pound monthly goals.
2. I got the Biggest Loser 30 day Jumjpstart book. The goal for this month is to follow the exercise routine daily (this is my minimum amount of exercise).
3. I want to record a daily pledge of something I need to do and then do it! This will keep me actively thinking about what I need to do and help build my motivation.

I usually at this point add in water and food goals, but lately I have been struggling so July is going to focus on exercise. Once I get back in a pattern with that I'll stress more.

July Results.
I'll edit this post in August and post how I did.

Global Race for Cure, June 6, 2009

Saturday, June 06, 2009

Wow I couldn't believe it was time for my third Race for the Cure in Washington D.C. This year was the first time it changed from National to Global race, but I didn't realize that until I got there. This was just one of many changes this year.

I briefly thought about not going as I hadn't been working out as much as I should be - only got in two run/walks in the last few weeks but then I remembered that this is my way of honoring my mother's life so I had to go. Most people can put flowers on graves, my mom is buried 2000+ miles away so this is how I put flowers on her grave to let her know I still think about her.

Kids weren't feeling good, so I figured it would be me and hubby, but he invited FIL so it was all three of us. We got a late start, but made it to Runners start with 5 minutes to spare. I actually ended up at the side of the starting mark pressed in against many bodies. This was the first year we were chipped at this race so all we needed to do was move as a group sideways to the start and make sure we crossed the starting gate. Well I had a good short warm up walking to start so I was ready to go - the race however wasn't. A change this year was that the complete program (speakers/singers) was BEFORE the start. Not the best idea as when we finially started out 35 minutes later I wasn't stretched out - and not being in shape that wasn't good.

I will say the speeches were nice - I was even suprised by VP Biden giving a speech before he introduced his wife. Last year the program was split into two one prior and one after and I think it went better - but that is my thoughts. The one really nice thing was a speech about remembering those that had been lost and a few minutes of silence in there memory (yes at this point I was crying - this race is still so emotional for me). Next year I'm wearing sunglasses so I can cry and not feel weird about it.

So the race starts, no bang, just they started having a singer sing (can't remember the song) and I was herded sideways to the starting gate in a mad rush of bodies (actually it was kind of cool) and we were off. I had my stopwatch on my phone all ready so as soon as I stepped over the line I started it - good thing too as for some reason this year the mile markers and time were gone. I also missed the various performers/cheerleaders along the route. There were a few flat bed trucks all decorated up with microphones for performers or cheerleaders, but most were empty - that was very weird. I walked/jogged my way through the race - keeping an eye on my gps thingy to make sure I kept above 3.4 at all times a good fast walk for me. The first year I did it in 58+ minutes. Last year is anyones guess with all the shortcuts we took.

This year........52:49 and that was with two slow downs to get water. Oh yea, I am happy. My chip may show the real time to be slightly different - but that is very close.

This year they routed us into the vendor area at the end instead of the mall area with food/water. By the time I got there I was dying for water (I know they put out water so figured I'd be able to get a bottle prior to race but that didn't happen). We then scoped out the vendors (Jim bought me a shirt, vest and the cutest pink bear) then we went to the North American Indian Museum's eatery and I had Fried Bread with Honey and this side dish of lima beans, guacomonli (sp?) onions, and peppers - it was really refreshing and different. Then back home.

I can't wait for next year! Although I am going to train for it so my feet and calves won't be so sore. Dare I hope the sore feet is the kick in the rear end I need to get back with the program. I have the MD Race for Cure in October, it is good but there is just something especially special about this one.

So yea me!!! 52:49 not too bad!
