Third Race Yesterday!

Monday, August 19, 2013

I signed up for a 5k race for Multiple Sclerosis a couple of weeks ago. My step-mom has MS, so it seemed a no-brainer. However, after I signed up, I looked at the course - yikes! Major hill. But I scoped out some areas around home to work on hills, and DH helped me by driving to different start locations so I could work the elevation later in my route (similar to the 5k course). Saturday night I had major nightmares, though ... BUT, I didn't back out!

Here I am just before starting:

Nice action shot from the hubby:

At the end - totally out of breath (even though I stopped and walked a number of times):

And ... drum roll please ... here I am totally incredulous that I WON MY DIVISION! Woohoo!!!

So - the first 5k I did, was to dip my feet in the water. The 2nd was to show that it's okay to stop (I ran it with a broken rib - kind of a problem to breathe well ...). The 3rd was to show that no matter how daunting something is, give it your best, and you never know what'll happen!

Here's to giving it our all!

I raced today!

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Well, I participated in a race ... I ran (trotted) in a 5k for a Cancer run today - the Kerryman Pub 5k. It was my first, and I am very proud of having done it. I wondered whether or not I would feel strange about not being a "racer", but it didn't bother me. I trotted with a friend who hasn't been trotting for as long as I, and has only once done over 3.1 miles. I was very proud of the fact that we didn't stop to walk once - we kept a slow pace, but kept it going all the way. My husband took pictures before, during and after, and he was proud of me as well. It was a great day!

Lilacs!

Sunday, May 06, 2012

I don't make regular entries (you think?) here, but I had to just share my joy. I was out for a trot (I do so like that better than jog - because I do NOT run :D ), and the lilacs are starting to bloom - I LOVE the smell of them! What a joyjul day! Enjoy!

I love them too. I don't have any in my yard, but there are some on the road I walk - pretty and so fragrant.

    Aren't they wonderful!!!

I have a dwarf lilac bush, and it's a joy to mulch and weed around that area.

What was I thinking?

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I ran today. I haven't run since I was in school, and if you look at my SparkPage, you'll be able to determine that that was a LONG time ago ... I've been waking up in the mornings lately thinking that I could run - enjoy the outdoors, not have to deal with moving things around in the den in order to do a video workout, or get to the elliptical. But I didn't. Until this morning. And this is day three of a cold - not a horrible cold, but still, the nose is running, the lungs are not at their peak. So - I ran. My legs felt it a bit at first, but not much. My lungs, however - they did NOT like it. It was 56 degrees this morning, but according to my lungs, it was closer to 32. Not fun. It's also a good thing that I wore my heart monitor. Every time it started beeping at me (I have it set to go off if I go over 168 bpm), I walked. So, I ran only about half the time. But - according to the monitor, I burned about 500 calories. So - I ran today - woohoo!

I just read your blog. Did you run again? I'm afraid it would be too hard on my knees; so I walk, but the idea of running sounds great!

Yesterday morning I ran-just a bit. It was actually a jog walk. We walked the rail trail as a group and we akways go to the bakery for coffee. The group goes in the cars but I always walk the extra distance to make it 4 miles. They all left but I could not get across the road. I walked very fast and suddenly I was JOGGING. It felt good I have not done that since 2004 back injury. Now I will make it a habit, jog-walk for a while. I am almost 68 years old. Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

I'm impressed! emoticon No matter how many blogs I read about running, I know it is not for me. I only run when somebody chases me, and that hasn't happened in eons! If it works for you though, by all means continue. It was a HUGE calorie burn. That must be a great encouragement when you factor in the lungs, temps and aching legs. Good for you! Keep it up!

Awesome. I did some running this spring for the first time since I was in school (and I'm 58). I may run some more after it cools down this fall.

About Me

Thursday, June 23, 2011

I realized today as I was driving to the airport, that my blurb on my SparkPage makes it sound like I'm defined by my traveling. While I do travel almost every week for my job, I don't feel that I'm defined by it. Confined by it, yes! But I am so much more than that.

I am a fun-loving, sensitive woman who has a loving husband, sweet dog, and a great family. I love to cook, scrapbook, make cards, cook, read, dabble in new technology, cook, host dinner parties, pair food with wine, and did I mention cook? :D

I have recently been reminded that I love Pilates - I was taking classes regularly about 10 years ago, but stopped when that particular project ended. I've tried doing sessions via DVD, but it's not the same. I found a great Pilates center not too far from the house, and am enjoying the workout/stretching/strengthening that it gives me. I even got my DH to go with me last week - woohoo!

So - that's just a little bit about me for anyone who wants to read this.

Enjoy your day - I am - I'm headed home!

I wish I loved to cook. Unfortunately, I just love to eat. emoticon I do love wine, & Pilates. Your life sounds very busy! You're doing so well on your journey to your goal weight. Congratulations, on not letting all the traveling you have to do hold you back.

I have a friend who travels alot for work. Unfortunately, they tell her to go to the same places. Nothing new. She's getting bored with it. Planes?? "You get on, and your get off." was her comment. emoticon
