Well, this year is still year of health for me, but apparently I can't juggle all the balls together yet. Still doing at least a monthly progress report here. I've missed you all, but lately been handling just what I could even just 12 hours at a time.
I went through wisdom tooth removal--so far, okay, but I go back to doc for follow-up, so we'll see. I was still kinda tracking through that, but more just water and veggies. When you're on soft food diet...
Then I had my other surgery removing some cysts. Just found out benign, YAY! But it was so soon after wisdom tooth surgery and between pain meds and trying to work a lot more than I probably should've as well as taking care of mom through a health thing of hers...I just haven't even logged in the last couple weeks.
Good news is, even though I haven't been tracking totally, I'm back on the losing train last I weighed in! Yay! It was starting to go the wrong direction. Back down to 9 pounds lost (15 if you count from my highest!)
And while I've been grumping through July I didn't get to exercise much with everything, that had a side effect of being good. I'd injured my knee and apparently I was aggravating the injury because I wouldn't just let it REST A FEW DAYS. So since I went off doing stuff for a week or so...now I'm not limping/in pain everytime I move! Yay!
Got to spend a couple weeks on a work business trip, so may not know calorie count. But have water in my car and plan to exercise. Hopefully I'll be hanging out more on the site.
Keep sparking everyone!

So I've made some progress and had some setbacks.
I've joined a couple of spark team challenges for the first time! I did the spark solution one, and I joined a couple of the 100 first steps challenges--they seemed less intimidating and more my speed. I've met some awesome people there too *waves to newer friends from there*
However, by poking through the forums/challenges, I end up not spending as much time looking at my "friends list" and reading all y'all's progress and events. I do find I miss that aspect. Hopefully I can balance that but not spend too much time on the computer. *waves*
I've actually had some weight gain since month 1. I'd gained about 6 pounds again just not getting into enough of a rhythm on things, and also this stupid knee injury threw off my exercise plans. But I've been working my way back. So I'm not as far down as I was 1 month ago, but I'm at least going back in the correct direction! And even with the gain, I'm noticing I'm...fitter in my clothes and stuff.
I'm much better about my water, and my fruits and veggies. It's become a habit for me to buy them and only enough of them as I will use within a week. It also helps because I know myself and my lazy ways and I buy some of the veggies prechopped!
I'm going to work more at other exercises, and not try and do so much on my legs when I do feel enough to do stuff.
I was doing so well about tracking everything and logging in every day, but I lost my streak a couple days ago when it was just...it was a crazy weekend. But I'm starting again.
I just have to remember, I'm starting new lifetime habits and it'll take a while to retain the lessons and not backslide.

There's a guy I know about ten years older than me. Always in good physical shape. Heck, in his prime, he was literally an Olympic level athlete. While diagnosed with high blood pressure, he was on medication, and otherwise in great health.
He got on a super-fitness kick recently because a job change that meant more travel/less routine made him feel like he was getting too sedate. He was working out with a trainer...THEN going out and doing more exercise. A couple weeks ago after doing this, his body was so sore he had to crawl down his stairs.
His body was sending him a message He didn't listen.
This week in my area there was high heat and humidity. Temps in the 90s with heat index raising it over 100. News reports would say do not do strenuous activity in the middle of the day. He didn't listen.
He went out to play tennis in the early afternoon with his girlfriend. While doing warm-up lobs, he said he didn't feel good and sat down on the court. She went to get him some water and returned to find him collapsed. He never got back up.
He passed away Friday afternoon leaving a loving family and numerous friends.
One of the things they stress here at spark is to "listen to your body". If you're pushing yourself too much, slow down. If you're injured, heal. (If you're eating, pause to listen to know when you're full!) There's a spark article here by Coach Nicole of ways to listen: www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?po
This is a lesson to ALWAYS remember, whether you're in great physical shape and fitness or struggling to start being fit under a lot of excess weight. Please don't be like my friend. RIP, you will be missed.

Today at work a bunch of things caught up with me. Well, let's back up. For the past week or so, I've been having some Murphy's Law stuff happening at work, and I've just felt out of control and behind for a while.
Tuesday starting to make a bit of headway, but pulled in all directions, and ended up with a last minute dinner date with a colleague from out of town. Okay, I can manage that with my plan. But with time so short, I didn't get to exercise.
So today I figured, oh this will be a good day to catch up. I'm working from home, no meetings to call into. I can get caught up.
The good news is, I did that...or at least made good headway. The bad news is, everything else went crazy. I woke up in the middle of the night with a leg cramp and couldn't go back to sleep, so I turned off my alarm. I usually wake up my usual 6 am and I'm teleworking. Well I woke up when I wanted to start work. Gah.
Grab my water and start working...
Forget about breakfast until it's practically lunch. I never do that!
Grab my (not as healthy-- were involved) leftovers and have them for lunch. But since my fridge is mostly bare (I was going to go to the store before the whole "let's go to dinner" yesterday), had no fruit to grab as a snack or veggies to eat with lunch.
Finally got done work, and have just enough time to run to the credit union for errands that need done (thank goodness for later hours) and go to the store! Although not enough time to write out my shopping list ahead of time/meal plan (I mentioned Murphy's Law week, right?) That's when I realize I'm starving!!! Like shaky starving.
So, I go into the restaurant next to the grocery store. I order a white pizza (comes with broccoli and tomatoes) because delicious and relatively healthy (especially considering the stuff they have there). They bring out the warm bread. OMG. So hungry...yeah. Usually I can stop. I ate practically the whole little loaf of french bread (and yes, of COURSE with butter). THIS IS WHY I NEED TO PLAN AND HAVE MY FOOD READY! Because this is the habit I need to stop! The going too long between meals and then eat too much too fast!
But by the time the meal came I was able to concentrate on each bite and eat slowly...
At least I only had room for one (huge) slice of ?
Also, I forgot this place has free desserts with meals (it's been a while since I visited). I took that, and the 5/6th of pizza home uneaten.
Then I went to the store and got lots of healthy things. Greek Yogurt. Cottage Cheese. No salt oven roasted turkey at the deli. Sandwich thins.
I'm still within calories and stuff, but that's not the point. Still drinking water, and I need to go ride my bike so I'm not TWO days without exercise. Wish me luck!
ETA: I forgot to say thank you to everyone who cheered me on from my last entry! I really appreciate the support here at Spark!!!
