New Automated Process to Replace Inactive SparkTeam Leaders

Wednesday, December 03, 2008

We love that our members have created thousands and thousands of SparkTeams, but sometimes for one reason or another a leader is no longer active. We launched a new feature this week where once a leader has not posted to a SparkTeam in 60 days, a note goes on the SparkTeam page saying that someone else can step up as leader. The first person to click this link will be put into consideration to be the leader. The current leader will have 3 days to respond - they can decide to add the person as the leader or decide to stay as leader. If the current leader does not respond, after 3 days the new person will become a leader. So you may see this appear on some of your inactive teams. If you believe a leader is inactive and you do not see this link, its possible another member has already requested to become the leader.

We hope this helps keep SparkTeams organized and moving forward by having active leaders. Also keep in mind that SparkTeams can have mutliple leaders, so if someone becomes a new leader of one of your SparkTeams and you would like to be a leader you can SparkMail them and ask them to make you a Co-Leader.

Wonderful idea. So many great teams have become inactive that need new leader ship. emoticon

As a leader I love this idea. The next thing might be to do the same thing for uinactive members. Some teams look large but because of inactive members. We need something for this as well.

Thanks,
Marty

    That's awesome!

It might be nice too to have some kind of notation on a person's page as to when they were last seen on SP. That way we can know if our "friends" have been gone for just a few days or if they are truly MIA.

What exactly is the team leader responsible for? Our team currently has no leader.

I think this is an excellent idea to clean things up and motivate teams to have an active leader.

One of the teams I'm on is leaderless. The former leader has been non-existent for ages (more than 2 years) which I'm sure is why there are now only 3 of us trying to keep our team from falling apart.

Leave it to SparkPeople to come up with another good idea. You are the best! emoticon

Great idea: thanks for the option! One of my teams had an inactive leader, so I emailed her and asked whether she'd like to have a co-leader as I'd seen on some of my other teams. She said, sure. Now suddenly she's become a very active leader! And a good one, it appears, to boot. Just needed a nudge I guess.

I really like this accept it makes me feel really bad when I have a team who no matter what I have done, nobody still posts or wants to be active. I am waiting for the 3 months to close it. But meanwhile. I am not posting on it because nobody else wants to. I did email the team again and only got one response saying that it was a good idea to let the team go.

I still feel awful though seeing that really big yellow sign on my team and that maks me LOOK REALLY BAD AND FEEL BAD.

I just don't know what else to do.

Thanks for all you do, Jetta

I really like this feature. One of the Teams I am on has a single leader and she has been MIA for so long I don't know when or if I have seen her post on it. 2 of them, including this one, has no Team Goals, Articles on FMS in the Favorites or anything else that we really need so we post the Articles ourselves.

What about inactive 'co leaders'??
I'm on a private team as a co leader and that is because there are two that have been inactive for a long time.

DOWN2SEXY 12/3/2008 4:49PM

I took over a team that had an inactive leader. Not too long ago, that inactive leader, who had not posted in who knows how long, started two very self-serving threads and sent Spark Mails to all the team members with the same self-serving message.

Since she did that, the activity has died off in the thread. I'm trying to rebuild, but it is frustrating. We have a few new members, but the ones who were previously active - including my 2 co-leaders just stopped posting after this happened. I think they all believe that the old absent leader has become active in the team again, which is not the case. She just posted asking people to support her in a private endeavor and then disappeared again.

So, I really love this new feature.

Can we fix it so that replaced leaders are removed from the team and have to re-join as a member? At least that way, the other members would be aware that person has come back, but is no longer "in charge."

New: Add dailySpark Entries to Your SparkFavorites!

Monday, November 17, 2008

Happy Monday everyone!

I wanted to let you know about a small enhancement that we launched last week. Members have long been able to save "favorites" (such as articles and recipes) on SparkPeople.com, so that they can easily refer back to useful information later. Last week, we added a link to every entry on our dailySpark website so that you can keep your favorite dailySpark entries along with your favorite SparkPeople content!

Adding dailySpark entries to your SparkFavorites is easy. Simply log in, scroll to the bottom of the entry you like (just before the Comments section), and click the link that says "Save to SparkFavorites"! It's that easy. (See screen image below.)

Saving dailySpark entries to your SparkFavorites not only helps you find the information you like again later, but it also share it with others. Most people set their SparkPage preferences to display their Favorites for others to see. And SparkTeam leaders can share their Favorite articles on their SparkTeam page as well! Adding dailySpark entries to your SparkFavorites also helps Spread the Spark to others who might not yet know about the dailySpark.com.

We hope you enjoy this new functionality. Be sure to tune in to the dailySpark during the holiday season for tons of seasonal advice from our experts and weekly holiday giveaways!

Is there any way that button could also be added to the videos? I find one I like then sometimes I can't find it again. If they were in "My Favorites" then I would know exactly where they are. :))

This is fabulous though. Thank you.

Sounds like a fantastic idea! I've drastically changed my eating but still want a little sweet something now and then that is not gonna wreck havoc on eating healthy.

I seem to be sporadic in my visits to this site. Which HAS to stop.
I find ADD, is driving so much of this behaviour-but know I'm missing out on all SPARK People has to offer.

I've lost 80 pounds so far--but had surgery a month ago-and have been ever so slowly getting back to my mindful eating.
AM looking forward to the new H H Newsletter-- Just the thing I need to regain my control over so many aspects of my life...Thanks Nicole!!
Looking forward to hitting 100 lost. emoticon

On my grief teams we are very sensitive to how difficult holidays are emotionally for those who've experienced a loss. I think this year in particular there is more loss and more heartbreak than usual. People are struggling financially when they were middle class just last week. It's going to be a different kind of Holiday than we are used to having probably world wide. I hope that this is kept in mind. I think it's more relevant than ever.

New: 5 Fun "Brain" Games on SparkPeople

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Physical exercise, good nutrition, social connection, and mental stimulation all help ensure that your brain remains sharp and agile, no matter what your age. We've partnered with Happy Neuron to bring you 5 interactive games that you can play here at SparkPeople to help keep your mind sharp! As incentive, you can earn 3 SparkPoints (max 3 points/day) for playing a Brain Game—just look for the "Get SparkPoints" button below the game screen when you've finished.

Click here to check out the games, which are located in the Wellness section (under the Healthy Lifestyle Tab).

We hope you enjoy this new feature!

Actually, I am finding all of these new spark domains (recipes, blogs, daily spark, location specific, etc. are just becoming unnecessairly complex and unmanagable. It would sure be more convenient to have one single home page to log on to and be able to navigate to everything from. It seems as though in some cases you can do that (like adding a link to sparkrecipes in my customized side bar) but in other cases (like the SP expert blogs and the daily spark site, it seems to require browsing to a different site and logging on again. I either ened up with aq dozen browser windows open or get totally lost trying to back up to the site/paqe I came from.

Ooops, sorry, case in point. I meant to post my comment to another blog entry, but since I had to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to get to the comment window, it got posted to what happened to be the last blog on this page.l

I was delighted to find this addition to SparkFun! Realizing the importance of fun for the brain to stimulate and make new neurons as I age, I have been tracking as another goal, the number of times I play games throughout the week! You guys just made my day by emphasizing the importance in this way!!!

Love it, I've played the last couple of days, but I don't have the "Get SparkPoints" button anywhere on the page. The only thing I see are the Restart, Results, Compare, and Comments buttons. I've looked everywhere and yes I've successfully completed the game(s).

I'm not too concerned though as I know this is a new feature and there may be some bugs that need to be worked out. I'll just keep trying and hopefully I'll see the elusive sparkpoints button! =)
