Catch SparkGuy and SparkPeople Members on "Entertainment Tonight" Tomorrow!

Hi everyone!
In Tuesday's Weekly Spark, we shared big news: that SparkGuy and other SparkPeople members will be interviewed on "Entertainment Tonight" today. However, we just received word from "ET" producers that this segment has been pushed to TOMORROW. You can now watch SparkPeople on "ET" on Thursday, July 23.

This Thursday, July 23, our founder Chris "SparkGuy" Downie and several amazing members who have lost hundreds of pounds will be featured on "Entertainment Tonight."

We're asking you to show your SparkPeople support by tuning in�and telling your friends to watch, too.

If you're not sure when or where you can watch "ET" in your area, check your local listings and set your DVR if you're not able to watch it when it airs.

The "ET" crew attended the Los Angeles SparkRally, part of the "Show Your Spark" Weekend that was a huge success at many locations throughout the country. We hope you can tune in to this special broadcast! Thanks for your support!

The segment on ET was great. It is too bad the segment wasn't longer, but they have to time everything to get everything in a limited amout of time. I didn't know there was a book. Will it be in book stores or just on Sparkpeople?

I was very disappointed in the coverage SP got on ET. It was little more than a sound bite. Of course they again for the thousand time bored us with more trash on Michael Jackson. I for one am not interested in any more stuff on MJ. Move on and give decent coverage to other worthwhile stories.

The ladies with you on ET are the people that inspire me to keep going and not give up. The segment was over so quickly, I thought it was somehow tied into the next segment on "More To Lose". The heavyweight version of the "Bachelor".
I agree more could have been said about Sparkpeople but then again, I'd be preaching to the choir.

I was so looking forward to watching this segment on ET tonight. What there was of it was interesting but ET skimmed over it so quickly; it was gone before I realized it. I would have liked to learn how SP all got started by it's founder.....The only information that was really presented was...there was a website out there that helped people loose alot of weight.....somewhere out there........and that was about it........Credit was not given where it was due. Too quickly done and hurried over.

I must say, I was hugely disappointed. The story seemed truncated, and then segued into the reality show More to Love! I think ET gave Sparkpeople short shrift. SP has done so much for so many and it deserved better than the brief mention by ET. I hope this is just the start of the media coverage of this fantastic website, and I hope the next time SP is featured on TV, there is time devoted to exploring the founding of the website, the numerous resources, and the thousands of success stories.

Create food grouping from food you have tracked

Hi everyone

You can now create a new Food Grouping from foods you add to a meal in your food tracker. To do this:
1) Track custom food
2) Click the "Copy This Meal's Custom Foods to Another Day" button
3) Instead of clicking a date to copy food, click the link at the bottom of the page to "Make this meal's foods a food grouping"
4) You can then name and save the Food Grouping

This change is based on feedback from members like you! Please reply below if you have any questions or comments.

After SHAREJA's helpful note I raced over to see it and...nothing...I felt so stupid at not seeing something that apparently was so obvious. I love the food grouping feature, however - I too have had some difficulty lately editing my food groupings. There is a soup I make with frozen chicken breasts in my crockpot and obviously the weight of the chicken will vary each time. I had to create a new grouping to accomodate the change. I am hoping it was a temporary technical glitch - sounds like KarenBGrateful has had similar difficulties.

I think I'd like to use this feature once I find it. I love making a menu, but we often change a meal out for another day's dinner. With this feature, it will be easier to change the Nutrition Tracker.

I found the Copy This Custom Food...... to another day button, but not the second button 'Make This.... into new food grouping'.

As a hint to other bloggers, to find the first button, you must have the SP food option on (It has a button above the area you track food), AND have custom food choices entered also. Then the first "Copy..." button appears.

Normally I turn off the SP food options once I have made a menu. But I find their ideas helpful in making a menu. I look at their suggestions for recipes and to change up my own routines. Then I turn off the feature, run my grocery list, and off to the store for whatever I don't have. In the past, I've planned only our dinners. With the Nutrition Tracker I am now planning all our food, spending less money shopping, AND buying healthier choices.

I have found it and love the new feature! It would be nice to add a entire day to a food grouping, instead of just one meal. Many of us eat the same things for, like work days, or weekends. It would be nice to just take that entire day and add it to a food group!

I, too, am unable to find where to do this.
1. I guess I don't know how to track custom foods, because:

I create my own meal plans, and I think I've looked everywhere on the nutrition tracker, including manually added foods.

I also checked the SparkPeople-created meal plan tracker, with no luck.

I also searched the website for "Custom Foods" and didn't get any info.

It would be very helpful to use this tool, if I can find it!

I am a thirty one year old mom of a autistic 3 year old son. I have been trying to lose weight since I have had him. Because of all of the therapy he needs I had to quit working leaving us with no extra money for things like the gym. Thank you SparkGuy for this site and the motivation. I am a 51 year old who spent the first 30 years of my life trying to weight more than 105 pounds. Well once I started gaining I couldn't stop and now its as hard for me to lose as it was to gain. I had tried WW with no success. I have started using SparkPeople page about a year ago but wasn't really committed. I have within the last 60 days gotten very serious about my health and weight have been using this site religiously. Thank you Thank you for all of the information you have put at my finger tips for free. I have lost 18 pounds and can not thank you enough for the help and motivation I find on this site. I am a "veteran" fighting fat. I joined support type programs (WW, OEA, at work support groups), I joined many online programs, I was on all sort of medication to lose weight, I bought all sort of weight loss software. Spar people is by far the best. Weight loss is dealt with from so many and diverse angles, some of them I never thought about. The information, the presentation, the very user friendly design make this web site amazing. Many times I am at loss with all this information . Once I open a door , many other open as well, and I don't know what to chose. And if I take another door, I don't know where did I start. Does any of you feel the same?

Having "dieted" and worked out all of my life, I thought I knew a thing or two about the subject. I've been amazed at how smart I'm not --- and grateful that I've learned so much in the nearly two months that I've been participating in the Spark People program. I'm on track to lose my goal of 16 pounds, 2 pounds per week, by the end of July. I am happy, I am satisfied, I'm losing weight and feeling so much better about myself. One very important part of this program is that by taking the diet profile test, I discovered what my overeating triggers were, and I'm now able to avoid those triggers. (Fast Feeder and Portion Distortion-er equally). My second favorite thing about the site is that for the FIRST time, I'm not doing someone else's program. I'm doing my own plan, eating what I want to eat and working healthy eatng into my lifestyle slowly but surely. I am so very confident that I will be able to meet my goal weight loss, and can easily envision this site being a part of my planning for years to come. i do thank you for creating a well-thought and deep site that focuses on health first. I'm learning, losing and actually loving this opportunity.

You get great member comments because you did a great thing with this site. Spark people changed my life, and I know many others that feel the same. I know for me, it's hard to even put into words the gratitude I feel for this website. Heck, I think losing 120 pounds (and counting) has statistically added like 5 years to my life, not to mention the added quality of life. How do you thank someone for that?

I not only have an autistic son, I'm also autistic myself (asperger's syndrome), making life not only stressful, but also making it hard for me to deal with stress. Having the numbers at my fingertips (calories eaten vs burned) has been really helpful, as it makes it a little more concrete. There even is a team for people with autism, apart from the usual teams for parents. Only 4 pounds left to go!

I concur - SP is an awesome site! I was always successful on a "diet" for 2 maybe 3 months, but never beyond. Why? Support & encouragement were not available. Weekly meetings were great but only for 1 day a week. The other 6 days I was on my own. Here I find the support I need and can offer support to many many friends I have made along the way.

I am glad of your success and I hav worked with autistic childfren and I know you have a lot on your plate. I am glad to be a part of somjething that has such an important and positive impact on one's life. I have truelly been blessed by sp and I too am feeling more energetic inless than a week of being a member.

I myself have an autistic son. So I know the pressures and stress that come with it. This site helped me lose the extra weight from my pregnancy, which was very difficult. With SP, I was able to reach my goal weight. I have found many friends who have helped me along my journey. I couldn't have done it alone. Thank you for giving us a tool that helps us lose weight and keep it off.

I have totally become addicted to this site. I just love using the recipe builder to find out how many calories some of my recipes have. It is really helpful to keep me on track. It also helps me to journal my food and activities for the day. This is the first time in my life that I have actually kept track of what I eat and how much I exercise. It really helps to keep me honest.

We are learning not only how to eat healthy but getting valuable lessons on how to make our bodies more healthy than they are. We are also learning that we are worth the effort we are expending to do it. Thank you again.

I like this site too. I have been on the weight watchers site and like it, but it costs money (a lot, i might add!). This site does everything that site does, but no charge. It is great!

Amen!!! There are so many websites out there like SparkPeople, but they eventually ask for your money and are not anywhere as supportive as everyone is here. I am SO glad I found this wonderful tool in weight loss and will continue to use it every day until I am old and gray.

I agree with some of the other posters that I don't like videos much. I have little ones in the family around me usually when I'm on the computer, and if I can't guarantee that it's safe for them to overhear, I don't open videos. So please also include text! Thank you!

This is great Dave, I am mastering the video download okay. I love new technology so I tried it right away. I have had no problems except I am learning to be video camera person! I will get better with practice Thank you so much for this capablity of making videos. I have a new Sony Camera...pocket size and it even takes HD videos! Neat.

Blog Post SparkPoints - increased from 1 to 3

Hi everyone

We're seeing more and more great evidence that people who make blog posts get better support and motivation, and ultimately are more successful! You can now earn 3 points a day from blog posts (up from 1), earning 3 points for your first post each day.

If you have not yet used our blogs we encourage you to go to your SparkPage and add one today. You can go to your SparkPage, click your Blogs tab, and click the Add button.

i actually have an idea; born of reading comments. what if the blog posts were increased to two points PLUS you get a point for leaving a comment of something that was said; encouragement , sympathy or to whatever the topic is related. And have a place on the page to check if this was an encouraging comment (from the writer of the blog) If it was that person could get another point. Something to think about.

Also I am a leader, and I wish that there is something as blog for the topic. We can all wright on this blog by creating our one blog but it stay on the team page.
I think it is important. We do have community journal ,but I do not see team community journal. Blogs are different then posts.

I like the idea. Sure there will be some that blog just for the points, but all we can control is our own actions. I do appreciate the extra incentive to post. I agree that there is alot of motivation, and if the extra points gets people to peruse blogs and post, then that is a good thing for their health and weight loss goals.

I agree with CZARINA_TV. It definitely takes a lot more time & effort to write & post a blog than updating your status. I appreciate that you've increased the points given for posting a blog. While I do post blogs, normally I only do one per day.

I'm thinking that GrandmaJo09 has a valid point. There are those who will go after points in all the available possible ways. I know that I will stop reading when I feel it's a waste of time. I like her idea of getting points for responding to blogs for the support the person needs.

I definitely feel like I'm more connected to my Spark Friend's blog posts than to the message boards and "official" blogs. I'm glad you increased the points to put it on par with reading articles. It takes me a lot more effort and reflexion to write a blog post than it does to update my status and they used to get the same number of points. While I'm not really here for points, they are good motivation and if it gets me to think about fitness throughout my day, all the better.

I see problems a coming... for people who like points they will blog anything..then so many blogs others will stop going to read them as it would be wasting their time trying to find legitimate blogs... I think you should get points for responding to blogs for the support the person needs.. just my thoughts..

I "save" my 3 blog spots for "important" stuff... it's great that you're promoting blogging... but it would be handy for people like me who purposely don't blog often to have a "sticky" blog option - so that you could save the important messages on your page and then let the daily stuff rotate on through like usual.

Just learning my way around on here. Signed up in March but didn't get serious until this week when I returned from a vacation at the beach somewhat disheartened at my size. Avoided pictures all week. I am amazed at how great this site is and it is free. My husband has lost his wife to Sparkpeople this week but I am sure he will be happy when he reaps the results. :) Thanks for making and continuing to make this a great site.
