How long will it take to burn off those Halloween Fun Treats?

Thursday, October 31, 2013

I received this from Pop Sugar this morning and just wanted to share it with you all.

Just because those Halloween Fun Treats are small doesn't mean they don't pack a big punch. I am sitting here looking at a bowl of miniature Reese's myself so I needed to read this.

To Burn Off . . .

You Need to Do . . .

Charleston Chew (30 calories) 10 minutes of leisurely walking (2.5 mph)

Nestle's Crunch or York Peppermint Patty (60 calories each) 25 minutes of yoga

3 Musketeers (63 calories) 26 minutes of Pilates

Hershey's milk chocolate bar (67 calories) 15 minutes of dancing

Kit Kat (70 calories) 10 minutes of rowing (moderate effort)

Regular M&M's (67 calories) 9 minutes of jumping jacks

Heath bar (77 calories) 12 minutes of aerobics

Milky Way, Mounds, Snickers, or Twix (80 calories each) 9 minutes on the elliptical

Butterfinger or Baby Ruth (85 calories each) 10 minutes of Zumba

Peanut M&M's or Mr. Goodbar (90 calories each) 13 minutes of hiking

Take 5 (100 calories) 17 minutes of leisurely bike riding (10-12 mph)

Reese's Peanut Butter Cup (110 calories) 7 minutes of jogging (10-minute mile pace)

Happy Halloween to all and to all a Lighter November 1st!

Sunny

A Pictoral Blog to Celebrate Macki's Life

Sunday, June 16, 2013

This week, we lost our Macki Girl and while no words could express how we feel, I thought this collection of photos might just do that. We will miss her but so grateful and so thankful that we had her with us 14 years. RIP, Miss Macki...

Hugs, Sunny

Working off unwanted calories....

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

I subscribe to a daily blog titled Pray Fit Daily. The Link to this website is at the bottom of this blog if you are interested.

I received the following blog entry today and wanted to share it with you all.

Counting The Calories

Pray Fit contributing dietitian and advisor to the Food Network shares some ways that are proven to help burn off unwanted/extra calories.

“Calories in and calories out — the calories you eat from food are expended with physical activity. When eating outweighs what you’re burning, you can pack on the pounds. High-cal foods take more exercise to get rid of, and sometimes it makes it more real to visualize just how much moving you’d have to do to shed those decadent calories.”

(The values below are average based on a 155-pound person.)

Dessert Damage
2 small scoops of chocolate ice cream = 1 hour 20 minutes of tennis
1 medium strawberry milkshake = 1 hour 30 minutes of high intensity aerobics
1 slice cheesecake (restaurant portion) = 1 hour 10 minutes on the elliptical trainer

Fast Food Frenzy
A large order of French fries = 1 hour of swimming laps
Bacon cheeseburger = 1 hour of fast running at 8 mph
Fried chicken sandwich = 45 minutes hiking

Takeout Trouble
1 slice pepperoni pizza = 30 minutes of medium-paced jogging
Medium-sized movie popcorn with butter = 1 hour 20 minutes of downhill skiing
1 order General Tso’s chicken = 2 hours on the stair-climber

Snacking
A candy bar = 1 hour of brisk walking at 3.75 mph
A (12-fluid ounce) can of soda = 30 minutes of volleyball
A 1-ounce bag of potato chips (15 chips) = 45 minutes of weight-lifting

Damage Control
We aren’t suggesting banishing these foods from your diet forever, but if you want to indulge a little more sensibly, consider:

Serving up smaller portions
Indulging only on occasion
Increase your calorie burn by getting out there and exercising more often

I was told a long time ago by a nutritionist, doctor and trainer that the size of my body is 90% what I eat. Exercise is great for increasing health, toning and improving one's mood, but what I eat and how much I eat is the key to a slim body.

I have found that to be true. Both ways.

Moving...in the direction of my GOALS (dreams with deadlines)

Monday, June 10, 2013

Just wanted to post a blog/update. BLC22 started last week and I already have learned so much about myself.

#1.) I can do more than I think I can... emoticon I limit myself so many times and as a result, I fall short of my goals. This challenge, no matter what it is, I will not set any limits. I will do my best!

#2.) I love the nutrition tracker and like running the reports at the end of the day. I have found that I am consistently low on calcium and magnesium. As a result, I have added these two supplements to my diet.

#3.) I like the Fitness tracker and love the videos. They give me such a good selection of workouts based on my abilities.

#4.) I absolutely refuse to give up on myself. I can be healthy and fit and I can finally manage to see my goal weight on my scale.

# 5.) I refuse to procrastinate. I want it and I want it now! It is so worth the efforts I put into this challenge.

# 6.) I have more determination to succeed than I thought I had. I am willing to do what it takes to get where I want to go.

# 7.) I look forward to "strength training". I know now that my joint injuries are a direct result of poor muscle tone. I definitely want to turn this around! As I age, the fear of loss of independence looms over me. The only way I can change this is to meet that fear head on and strength train.

#8.) I will achieve my goals this challenge and if I am not there yet, I will sign up for the next challenge and continue on in the direction of my dreams.

Thanks so much for reading my blog and for all of your support and encouragement. I so appreciate Spark People and the journey I am on to health, fitness and weight loss.

Hi, Sunny! I love your blog AND I love your sunflower wallpaper. I just want to say that the Nutrition Tracker consistently showed me as low in potassium and magnesium, so I asked my doctor about that. She ran a blood test, and I was normal according to that. Maybe we get these minerals in other ways???
