progress!

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Yay!! I'm running again. Okay, well, not like before, but still! Right now, i'm doing a combination of running/walking. Today, I would run 3/4 mile and walk half of a quarter mile. it's not much, but it does feel good to stretch my legs out to run. The ortho doc says I should still be able to make the mardi gras marathon, but i admit i'm nervous because i'm not really adding the mileage up like i should be. However, i'm trying to just let go and trust my doctor. he's a runner, so he understands what it's like when someone can't run. i'm sure he's steering me in the right direction.

hey --- that last part sounded as though i'm upset. i'm truly not! i'm just impatient. :)

It sounds like you are doing everything right. You will get where you want sooner than expected as determined as you are.

Be patient, the rehab will work and you will run in the marathon. Think positive thoughts and work even harder

Glad you are on the road back. You must have run on the treadmill...or beat the rain!

Forever, Favorites and not a Fan

Monday, November 16, 2009

it has been FOREVER since i've posted a blog entry. okay, well, not forever ... R E A L L Y. surely i can have a bit of hyperbole on a rainy monday. :) i mean to do better, but it just doesn't work out so much.

favorites ---

* if y'all have a kroger, you MUST try their carbmaster and/or their lite yogurt. it's my go-to snack fix --- for only 80 calories, no matter which version, and 4 to 10 carbs? cannot. be. compared.

* another favorite? emerald coast cocoa almonds. YUMMY!! nuts are a good sourse of fat and all other kinds of good stuff (i hope i didn't lose you with the technical terms there!)

* also a huge fan of steamed broccoli and carrots and turnips and cauliflower --- okay --- you get it --- i love the steamed veggies!

not a fan? of having to spend thanksgiving with people i cannot stand --- more on this later --- i'm still fuming!

not a fan of not being able to run --- it has been two weeks today since i've been able to run. i have another appointment with my fav runner doctor on wednesday morning. hopefully, he'll be able to offer up something new for me to try. i've already paid for the mardi gras marathon on february 28, and i'm losing valuable training time right now.

not a fan of colonoscopies -- and i have one on friday. actually? i don't really mind the procedure because i'm out for it, but the prep is awful! i hate the clear liquid diet the day before, not to mention the yucky stuff you have to drink.

not a fan of the dentist, --- i have an appointment next week for that. however, i have a new dentist, and i'm hopeful that it will work out okay.

Well, just get it ALL taken care of and then you will be right as emoticon. Sorry about the icky emoticon day plans. Make some time for you, too. (Watch the parade, that always gets me in a holiday mood!)

18 miles

Saturday, October 24, 2009

happy saturday!

i started off the day with an 18-miler. i had a bit of a struggle the last five miles --- along with the nausea. i think i pushed too fast, which caused the nausea. so, to check out my theory, i'll keep my mileage the same next saturday, but slow down the pace a bit.

i had big plans to take the youngest to michael's to make a halloween shirt --- oops! the program is tomorrow, not today! we went ahead and bought the t-shirt, so we'll be ready for tomorrow afternoon. the oldest may want to do it as well.

both girls are lobbying for a sleepover next weekend. as much as i'm not a fan of the idea of 8 girls running around in my house, i'm thinking if i let them both do it? then i'm done in one night! LOL

tomorrow should be a rest day, but i think i'll hit the gym's treadmill for a bit of a walk. every time i've been still for any length of time today, i've been really stiff. so hopefully the walking will help with that tomorrow --- just in time for my monday 6. :)

where's the ark?

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

ohmygosh! i'm soooo tired of the rain. it seems as though it's been ages since i've seen any sun, and it is really making me cranky!

i'm thinking it's time for another rest day tomorrow --- my heart rate was up even before i ran this morning --- and my 3 miler, which normally is a breeze, was a struggle. i'm needing to do my long run on thursday this week, instead of saturday, because of the race for the cure on saturday. i just don't think that i'm going to want to run the 5k and then turn around and go somewhere to do another 12. i need to have a cut-back week with mileage anyway because i've been increasing most weeks lately.

we'll see how it goes!

It has been raining here for most of the last two weeks! I am SAD!

Sometimes we have to slow down a little. Are you running the race or walking with the giant pink&white herd?

rest day

Sunday, October 04, 2009

this is killing me. i don't like not having some cardio in my day. i don't like not being able to check off the box on my goals tracked page. it is so hard not to do anything. :(

oh well --- tomorrow will be another day and an easy 3. :)

my youngest has been sick this past week. nothing the doctor can specifically put a name on --- low-grade fever, sore throat, congested cough. i had to go pick her up from school on tuesday afternoon, and she's been home ever since. the mr stayed home with her on wednesday and thursday, and i stayed with her friday. so far, no fever today --- hopefully, that will hold through the day, so that she can go to school tomorrow, and we can get back to our normal routine.

cross your fingers!

Rest days are frustrating for me too. I've read studies that say it is actually better to do some light activity such as walking or yoga on a rest day than to do nothing. It's called "active rest". Works for me.
