The OW, OW, OW report...

Sunday, March 30, 2014

My older sister and I had a silly thing we did for years before she died. Instead of announcing who we were when the other one answered the phone we would say, "ow, ow, ow" and then have a good laugh as we both had lots of aches and pains. We continued talking and laughing for the next hour and I believe we helped each other get through the day. Often we talked several times a week. She died about 2 years ago and I really miss our "therapy sessions."

So let me bend your ears: I had a thorough check-up at the retinal specialists and they dilated my eyes and examined them inside and out. They said everything looked fine and just changed the kind of eye drops I am to use, they are lubricating and my eyes feel sticky but do hurt less. I just have to return on April 15th for eye shot number 13.

I went to Urgent Care on Saturday afternoon after sleeping 18 hours. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and said 4 weeks was a long time to have sinus headaches. I was told to continue the Mucinex and remember to try the neti pot and also try steaming my nose. I have only 4 hours of PTO left until Friday so am working Monday afternoon and will need to conserve my new PTO for the next eye shot on April 15th.

The best news of the day is that it is supposed to get up to near 60 degrees and that should be the end of the ice and snow on our house's roof. I will try to walk around the block when we reach the max temp.

Cold symptoms and sinuses are worse...

Thursday, March 27, 2014

I got sicker again at work yesterday so I stayed home today. I will see the eye specialist this afternoon as my eye does not seem to be recuperating very well after the last shot. I also have what may be a sinus infection with horrible headache and a deep cough, so I will go to Urgent Care after the eye doctor. Since the eye doctor will be dilating my eyes for thorough exam, I will have to take cabs to several places this afternoon. I probably will have to go to Target to get a prescription for the sinus problems. Unless I am diagnosed with something serious I will have to return to work tomorrow as I have only 4 hours of PTO left. On the 15th of April I will have to take at least 8 hours off for my next eye injection. I feel very rundown and still have been sleeping quite a bit, last night slept 12 hours.

BTW: My daughter is still feeling much better and when I talked to her this morning she was getting ready for work and sounded back to normal.

Trudging onward despite discomforts...

Sunday, March 23, 2014

I only had 7 hours of PTO left this week so worked 5 hours in a.m. before my eye injection. Then next morning worked 4 hours and went home to rest. On Wednesday morning the day after eye injection I had a food accident. Cooked an egg under a piece of thin sliced ham in the microwave, put it on toast and bit in (without checking the egg first). The yolk was full of super hot steam and when I bit in a shot of that steam came out and burned my mouth, upper lip, gums and tongue. I now know I should not cook whole eggs nor rice (that's another story) in the microwave.

Despite my burns I have been able to eat, but I look like I have been beaten up (kinda feels like that, too). With the eye injection the entire white of the eye is red and painful and I believe the retinal specialist hit a blood vessel once again. Last time she did this it took almost four weeks to return to normal and then it was time for another shot. I get them every 4 weeks, so that was number 12 in less than a year.

So I have been wearing my dark tinted readers at work and almost every where this week.

P.S. I had good news from my daughter. She has an appetite again and is able to work, though slower than her usual pace. She is not 100% better but I could tell by her voice the viral meningitis is nearly gone. She lost 20 lb in 6 weeks due to lack of appetite and extreme weakness. (She didn't lose 20 lbs of fat cause she is so fit, so it was muscle weight she lost.) Sometimes carrying around a bit of fat is helpful when you have a serious illness.

Thanks for your prayers for her. I thank God she is doing so well.

emoticon P.S. It hurts when I smile.

Enjoyed playing piano for the seniors today....

Saturday, March 15, 2014

"Sweet Lorraine" told me to play "If You Knew Susie Like I Knew Susie" again. She said, "You didn't make any mistakes, so play it again." LOL!!!

I don't know how I did it as I have not practiced for ages. Sometimes I feel like the spirits of my mom and her sister are helping me. They were great musicians and I was rather mediocre as I was growing up and taking lessons. Anyhow, I remembered that St. Patrick's day was coming up on Monday and so I played some Irish favorites and those were well received.

Several people thanked me for playing and said I was a very good piano player. (This does not always happen, so I was grateful for their compliments.)

I was grateful that I was feeling well enough to play as last Saturday I was too sick.

I think my 100% Irish grandmother (who died in 1908) would have been proud of me. Her name was Mary Vaughan and her father immigrated from Limerick, Ireland.

How wonderful of you to spread cheer for the Seniors!
My dear mom had Irish heritage, and my mom had the Best Luck finding four-leaf clovers!

Wondering if your Grandma was a corker like my 100% Irish grandma was. Good job on the piano playing - it was so very nice and thoughtful of you to do that.

Up and down with this bad cold...

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Saturday I laid around and took it easy.
Sunday went shopping at Costco and got the EOBs printed.
Monday went to work but felt feverish and chilled, plus had intermittent hoarse voice and sore throat.
Today I am home from work to go to 2 dr appts. Fitting of Rx kneehighs and vitreoretinal specialist exam and shot #12 to right eye.

When I get home from doctor will call my internist to see if they can schedule me tomorrow to check out severe sore throat and other symptoms. I have had a headache for about 2 weeks. Had chest tightness before going to bed last night. If they can't get me in I will go to urgent care tomorrow.

I slept about 12 hours last night, but definitely will take a long nap after seeing specialist today.
