I love biking !

Sunday, September 21, 2014

This biking thing is the ticket ! My husband & I went on the bike trail on Friday , it was a lovely, perfect day . We rode 33.5 miles ! We rode together for almost the whole ride. I finished 4 minutes behind hubby ! I was proud as a peacock.I finished it in 2 hours & 23 minutes . I did great . I felt great when we were done. I feel so much stronger now. I've increased my average speed , I can go the distances , I have also gained enough strength to stay in the higher gears . That's pretty cool . I have 721 miles on my bike since July. My goal was 500 by Sept. 10, I surpassed that & then some ! Yahoo !!! Not only is this a great exercise but it truly has been a fun, common hobby between me & hubby. I love it ! We can discuss our rides & what things we saw or experienced on that particular ride. We live in the country & we ride on lots of back country roads most of the time, we see peacocks, chickens, deer , even trains. How funny is that to be stopped by a train passing through while you are on a bike ! Some of the big farm houses have ponds with fountains in them & those are really neat too see . The list could go on. It's so much fun . I will miss it when winter sets in & we have the bikes put away . I need to put my positive , determined energy into eating better ! The biking is somewhat counter -productive when I overeat ! I'm maintaining ok, but I really need to get this other large chunk of weight off. I could be even faster & stronger on the bike or any other activity I do . Always a work in progress !

Biking, biking, biking ...

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Hubby & I rode on the bike trail today .YAY ! I went 22 miles, he went 24. Made good time & my mph's are improving . Still in hubby's dust , but that's ok... I'm doing great & I can''t compare myself to him. He is super fit & competitive so his goals are different than mine. As long as I keep moving & working at it ... I am pleased. today I was only about 5 or 6 minutes behind him. Sometimes I can stay with him for awhile. The most I've done is 5 miles... So s long as I can do it sometimes.... I am happy with my efforts ! I do have to admit though, I do have a much better workout when he is with me because I am determined to at least give it my all to stay with him a bit. When I go by myself, it's easy to just take it easier sometimes. So it's all good. Lots of people on the trail today.Lots of families, which I thought was neat . If I would just put th same amount of effort into eating healthy & in moderation as I do for exercise...I would be at goal weight !!! That part needs a lot of fine tuning !!!!! I swear I have even more A.D.D. when it comes to staying focused on eating healthy but I am thankful I enjoy exercising & I am capable of doing it & sticking with that part of it !!! I am going to keep working at it ! After today's ride..I have put on 163 miles on my bike since July 1st. I was biking all summer with the old bike too but I wasn't as excited about keeping track of miles on that one. I only recorded miles done for my workouts . Hubby suggested keeping track of miles on the new bikes..guess I thought that was a grand I'm obsessed about it. Go figure !

Mary, Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow ?

Thursday, July 10, 2014

My hubby built me 2 more raised garden beds this spring ! Bless him !
My vegetables & flowers are doing so well now ! I have planted all kinds of great veggies. My peas & green beans are coming in great now & boy are they delicious ! Even my hubby , who isn't a veggie fan, really liking the peas & beans ! I don't know what it is but homegrown veggies are just the bomb ! They taste so fresh & yummy. It's just not the same taste as store bought veggies. I am growing , tomatoes, green peppers, basil, parsley, lettuce, butternut squash, zucchini , spaghetti squash , cucumbers, kale &the peas & green beans ! So far, everything is coming along fairly well. I had to buy a new food dehydrator because I blew up my other one ! It's so handy to do up some of the veggies that way . I freeze a lot too. I'm not into canning so much. That's a lot of work ! I now have no excuses for not eating good , rich vegetables !!! Never thought I'd become a little farmer ! I do enjoy it & for the minimal cost & effort it yields so many great healthy, cheaper vegetables ! YAY !!!

I have a small garden - I do mainly herbs - I had a lot of parsley but it's waning now. I had 2 dill plants but they flowered and are also waning. I have spanish thyme that is growning wild and some mint and basil. I have a selection of peppers - chocolate, goat and bird peppers. I have some okras. I have some more seeds to plant - only herbs. But a raised garden is a good idea - we have dogs.

I am sure the vegetables taste better than the store bought. I can attest to home grown mangos tasting much better than the store bought. I guess they have to pick them a bit early to sustain the travel so they don't ripe on the vine.

Your garden sounds much like mine. Last year I dehydrated some persimmons from my tree after slicing them very thin. I put them in Mason Jars and put them in the freezer. They are the best snack. Kind of like a cross between a potato chip and a banana chip but with a sweet persimmony flavor.

Yum! I'm not much of a gardener but we do have some lovely strawberry patches. The difference in taste between our home grown and the store bought version is just amazing. Thanks for sharing your wisdom from Weight Watchers! So, so true. :)

Sounds like you will have lots of delicious veggies in your future! I have only container gardens, but I am growing tomatoes, basil, and blueberries. I will plant lettuce in August for a September crop.

Today was slug day !!

Tuesday, July 08, 2014

Oh my goodness ! I wan't motivated to do anything today . I was the best.slug.ever ! It was rainy half of the day , I lounged around after hubby left for work on the early shift today .I watched 2 movies, dozed off in my recliner . I didn't even workout today ! I made a few phone calls to friends. I did manage to meet a friend for coffee for about an hour, so I did manage to get cleaned up so I wasn't a total slob & then hubby & I had a date night ! YAY !!! I have to admit, I enjoyed my slug day ! I'm usually a busy bee . I should have worked out but oh well it's only one day . Working out is fairly easy for me to continue doing. I am truly loving riding my bike. Sometimes I go with hubby when his schedule allows. I do ride a lot by myself though. I have 55 miles on it so far, it's been a week. My eating has been out of control this past week though, I am not proud of that ! I have dropped the ball there .I need to refocus & get back on track with that ! Tomorrow, I will plan and eat better !

Love the Tidbits as usually. I wish I had some of those genes that the great white shark has. Even if I give him half of mine and he gives me half of his.

New bikes are here !

Tuesday, July 01, 2014

Oh my snazzy new bike is wonderful ! It's so nice ! It's quiet, comfy & smooth ! What a dream to ride it ! I am amazed how much difference there is between the new ones & our old ones ! It has to be at least 20 years plus since we have had new bikes ! I guess you do't realize how noisy & clunky & uncomfortable the old ones are until you get snazzy new ones ! We did ride 5 miles on the trail to try them out. After I came home I rode 3 more miles in the neighborhood. Boy do I think I am all that riding around, like anyone cares or even notices I got a new bike !!! I am acting like a 12 year old girl ! emoticon Now I just need streamers for my handle bars & noise makers on my spokes on my wheels ! HAHAHAHA !!! Hubby may not want to be seen with me riding then ! We went out for another bike ride after supper too.that was about 6.25 miles. I biked 14.3 miles today .

Thin - I regularly do a bike ride in another island. It is very hilly. So - the 1st time I had a cruisers (I was much younger and the route was a flatter part of that island). The bike had foot/pedal brakes and no gears. Then I switched to hybrid with the handle brakes and gears - thinner tyres. So I thought I'd progressed but the hills were a real challenge during this bike ride. My DS wanted a racer and I decided to buy him one. It was about $1500 and I thought I'd get me one too. I was complaining about the price and thinking this is just a rip off. So we go to the bike ride with these bikes. What a difference a bike makes. I was ACCELERATING up the hills. The bike was sooooo light, soooooo fast I was like - I see why these bikes are so expensive. My bike was on the low end - so I can only imagine what the professional bikes must be like. So I know how you feel when you get a new bike.
