Non-Scale Validation

Thursday, July 25, 2013

I've been kind of down for the last two weeks because even though I've been following my diet and workout plan I wasn't seeing the results on the scale. It's discouraging to work so hard and not see it on the scale. However, yesterday I got some weight lost validation that had nothing to do with scale. Yesterday was my laundry day, I had all of my everyday clothes in the wash. I was also going out, but I didn't get to finish my laundry so all my normal everyday bras and panties were still in the wash. So I put on some girly panties that I don't wear very often cause they roll on me cause I'm too big for them and a bra that rolled on me as well because the band was wide and my back fat forced it to roll. Well I was out for several hours last night and I didn't have a single problem with my undergarments rolling on me. I know how silly this might sound but for me it was physical proof that my body is getting smaller and that completely made up for not seeing the numbers drop on the scale. I've always said it's the little things in life that are the best :)

Finally Feels Like Habit

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

For me the hardest part of starting a diet is always the first two weeks or so when I'm trying to get into the mind set and limiting my food and moving my body. While the idea of exercising still doesn't seem second nature to me, the smaller portions I'm eating no longer feel like I'm punishing myself. I'm pretty much used to saying "no thank you" to second helpings of anything that isn't fresh fruits or vegetables. And reading food labels is now a must when I go grocery shopping. I don't think I realized how much junk I was eating till I really stopped to think about it. Now don't get me wrong, I still have cookies. I just have the serving amount instead of the whole box in one sitting. I've even been really good about not drinking my calories. It's all water for me, and because I was raised in a soda world I've adjusted by using the water enhancers from Dasani (my favorite is Dasani Pineapple Coconut) and other companies so that my water has flavor but doesn't wreck my diet. Now if I could just get used to exercising I would be all set.

10 Pounds in 3 Weeks!

Saturday, July 06, 2013

I couldn't be happier! That's a huge dent in my goal of 50 pounds total. Right now I feel on top of the world! Yesterday a co-worker asked me if I had lost weight so I'm thrilled that it's starting to be noticeable to others. I've really worked hard. I haven't been perfect but I haven't given up. Like on the 4th I really pigged out, but I was back at my friend's house who had a pool so I made sure to swim enough that my little day of cheating wouldn't count. I think I swam for 3 hours, maybe more. That's more than enough to cover the junk I ate for the day. I'm just so happy and proud of myself. I can't wait to keep going!

You are off to a great start! Besides focusing on your weight loss, remember to celebrate the other things such as making healthier food choices, your clothes feeling looser, improved fitness such as doing more of an exercise that you could previously, etc.

Wishing you all the best on your journey to a healthier lifestyle and weight!

When One Door Closes...

Monday, July 01, 2013

another one opens, or so they say. Last night my boyfriend of 4 years and I broke up. Normally this kind of upset would send me into a spiral of emotional eating but I've manage very well so far. Now I'm sure I might find my way to some Ben and Jerry's or beer and pizza but I don't think I'll blow it. I'm too proud of the weight of lost so far (a total of 7 pounds as of yesterday!) to start back tracking. I even used my new Leslie Sansone walking dvd today. I'm trying so hard to keep looking on the bright side of this breakup, so I'm just gonna say it's God's way of giving me the space to work on myself.

Good thinking. You deserve time for yourself. Take it one day at a time and have positive thoughts.

Workout at Home Options...

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Since I realized yesterday that I can't afford a gym membership I have been looking at workout dvds. Now I'm a big girl and have been my whole life and I have limited mobility because of that. I also have a lower back injury so I can't do those crazy workout videos like S.W.A.T. Workout and things along those lines. I really need a low impact workout so I've been looking at Leslie Sansone's dvds. I owned one of her dvds before (for some reason, as I discovered today, it wont play anymore) and while I know there are videos I can watch on here for free I don't have the greatest of internet connections so videos don't always play for me, hence the idea of a dvd. I'm still a little bummed about the whole gym membership thing but I know I can't let that stand in my way of becoming healthy. I just have to make sure that whatever dvd I choose to buy and start making part of my routine doesn't become another dvd in my room that collects dust.

I'm like you, 3 totally trashed discs in the lumbar area so work outs for me are limited. Some days, it's all I can do just to walk. But I walk anyway. I have this thought in the back of my head if I don't get up and get going, there may come a day when I can't.

Sorry your internet doesn't work for using the videos here. There are so many great choices and most are able to be modified for people like us.

You might try getting a head cleaner for your dvd player or cleaning the dvd. Oftentimes there is dust/dirt on the laser or stuff on the disc that makes them inoperable. They are inexpensive to buy and last for several cleanings. I'd do that especially if you're having problems with other discs playing smoothly. DVD's don't wear out the way tapes did.

Good luck! emoticon

I had lost 50 pounds a couple years prior to joining spark. I had a gym membership and once we couldn't afford it anymore, I used it as an excuse to not be able to work out (gained all the weight back, plus some due to pregnancy). However this time I do not have a gym membership and started my program out with things I could do from home. I feel like I have a great foundation for working out than I ever have and I know that, worst case scenario, if we don't have money for a gym membership- there's still PLENTY I can do.

Maybe this is a great thing for you! :)
