In March, I set the following goals:
- 1000 Fitness Minutes Trophy
- Strength Training 3x/week
- Water 8 cups/day
- Cardio 16x/month (4x/week)
- Burn 7000 Calories
- Step 200,000
So, how'd I do?
FITNESS MINUTES: Well, I gained a 2000 Fitness Minutes Trophy this month! Yay! That goal was met!
STRENGTH TRAINING: I only did strength training about 4x this entire month. So, I still have some work to do in that area... as usual. I don't know why strength training is such a struggle. But, I'm determined to do it with some consistency. I'm going to keep trying until I figure it out.
WATER: I didn't even track my water. Though I started off the month pretty strong in this area, I kind of dropped the ball midway through.
CARDIO: I didn't make my 16x's this month. But, I did get in 12x's. I'll get it next month.
BURN: My SP report says I burned 12,022 calories. So technically, I guess I met that goal. However, that includes FitBit entries. When I set the goal, I didn't even know I could sync my FitBit with SP. So these activity minutes I get through FitBit for just getting steps in, was not expected. Sooooo, I went through my fitness tracker and just added up my formal exercise calories burned and the total was 5,356. No bad at all. Because I really want to know my formal exercise cardio burned, I think I won't sync my FitBit with SP next month.
STEPS: I almost made my goal! LOL I got in 184,154 steps this month. I know I could have made my goal if not for a few days when I was laying in the bed pretty much all day doing absolutely nothing. Soooo, next month it's ON! I'm going to make that goal! I'm thankful for my 10K a Day team challenge which starts back up in April. I've repeated my 200,000 a month goal!
So, that's my March roundup!!
I'm happy for another chance in April to make those goals a reality! Let's Go!!

Last Saturday when I was watching the weekend Today Show, Jenna Wolfe spotlighted an app called, Lose It!, stating that she thought it was the best app out there for tracking and weight loss. Well, I can't attest to that since I've not tried a lot of them. But, I can say that it's the best one that I've used so far. It's absolutely great!
For me, what makes the app so great is it's EASE OF USE!
When you first download and open the app, it'll ask how much you weigh, your goal weight and how much you want to lose per week. From that it'll give you a target amount of calories that you need to eat per day to accomplish that.
I said that I wanted to lose 2 lbs per week and it gave me a calorie consumption goal of 1,145. I thought that was kind of low because mine has always been a range of 1200-1550 with Sparkpeople. But, it's been fine. But, it's been a week, and I've lost exactly two pounds! I hope that trend continues for next week.
And the thing I love the most is the food tracking component. You can actually just scan the bar code of foods and it'll automatically brings them up in your tracker and all you have to do is change the amount/measurement. That saves me a lot of time and I love that aspect of it.
The exercise tracker is okay. I don't like that it doesn't have inclines for walking intensity; but it's cool. As soon as you exercise, it automatically adjusts the amount of calories that you can take in for that day, allowing you to eat more. I love that instant feedback. I feel like it's probably underestimating my calories burned. It's always lower than what it shows in Sparkpeople. But that's fine. I'd rather it underestimate the calories burned and I stay in my range for eating than if it overestimated the calories burned and I went over.
So, that's the wonderful app I wanted to tell you all about! Give it a try! :-)

Last week when I was grocery shopping I saw something in the organic section at Wegmans called, Kelp noodles. I've been trying to limit my consumptions of breads and pastas so I thought it might be nice to try.
They don't require cooking and you can eat them right out of the bag. So, last night, I finally opened them up and tried them...
Right out of the bag, they are crunchy and have absolutely no taste at all. I mean NO TASTE at all. Of course, it says that on the packaging but I had to see for myself. It's a weird sensation to be eating something that has no taste. This is what they look like in a bowl... it's about 3 ounces of the noodles in this bowl:
These noodles are super low in calories... only 6 calories per 4 ounces!
But, the plan was never to eat them plain... I bought them to try with spaghetti sauce, and that's what I poured over them last night. They just absorb the flavor of whatever you mix them with and they become soft and the crunch disappears. So, if your sauce or broth is good, the noodles will be good. And mine was good! :-)

For only the second time in my life, I have worked out in a gym! The first time was as a guest at my sister's gym a few years ago. But this time, I worked out at MY gym!!
I joined Gold's Gym on Friday and today (Monday) was my first workout!! It was so GREAT! I absolutely loved it!
I never knew how much I was missing out on by not belonging to the gym. I've always been content (or so I thought) to workout on my treadmill in the basement. But, my treadmill hasn't seen any action in a while. I don't know if I was getting bored or not. I just know that I wasn't really using it...for whatever reason.
But, the gym has absolutely EVERYTHING!!! Well, Gold's Gym does. I was like a kid in a candy store. There are so many options!! No excuse to get bored and stop exercising anymore. Variety is VERY motivating!!
I took my mom with me. The reason I joined a gym in the first place was so that we could workout together and motivate each other.
We started out on the recumbent bikes for 20 mins. Then we got on the treadmill for 20 mins. The treadmill goes up to 30% incline!!! What in the world?! I've never heard of such a thing! My treadmill at home only goes up to 10% incline. I waited until the last 10 mins of my workout to test out that 30% incline. Ummmm, yeah, no. I lasted about 3 mins and I was done with that incline. LOL Back to 3% for the remainder of the workout. Our workout was done at this point; but we proceeded to try out the other machines: lateral trainer, elliptical, stairclimber, rowing machine, arc trainer, and something else that I don't even know the name of. LOL We didn't test out any weight machines though... maybe another day. But, sooooooo many options!
I can't wait for my next workout at the gym! I'm so glad I joined!
