Little pockets of clean...

So I finally got my laundry room cleaned out! I wiped down all the cupboards and woodwork. Cleaned and sanitized the sink and ceramic floor. The washing machine quit on me this past weekend, but the repairman found a sock in the system that was blocking the water pump. So now the machine works like new and I am busy washing load after load of blankets right now.

It feels good to have a clean laundry room and I have to work to keep it that way. The room isn't really very big and we have been going through and sorting boys clothes which have spilled into all other areas of the house. So while the rest of my house is a disaster, I have to make a point to myself to respect the time and effort I put into cleaning the laundry room and work to keep it clean.

Last week I cleaned out my refrigerator and food cupboards in the kitchen. These are some other little pockets of clean in my house and I am working to keep them that way, too. It's hard to retrain a house full of boys to help out with this, but I will keep working on them.

My next little pockets of clean will be the clothes closets: the one that my husband and I share, my 13 year old's closet, my 12 year old's closet, and the one that my 10 and 7 year olds share. Time to pull out all the clothes, sorting and donating the ones we don't wear anymore, and wipe down the shelves. I have a laundry marathon ahead of me, but if I can make the clothes closets little pockets of clean, then I will be well on my way. Hard to put clean clothes away if the place you keep them is dusty and disorganized.

So here's to my little pockets of clean and the ones yet to come!

It felt good to get rid of all the old, expired, and unhealthy foods! I threw out two full garbage bags! There really wasn't much to donate - sadly, we had a lot of expired foods and wasted money in our cupboards. But's that gone now and we can start fresh! There are a still a few not-so-healthy foods lurking, but I'm in a better mind-set now to use them in more healthy ways. We had been on vacation recently and there really wasn't much in the fridge anyway. It felt good to toss out the old. I was really tired last night so all the food is still on the counters this morning. When I get some time this afternoon I will give the shelves a clean wipe-down and then start making a list of healthy staples, etc. It will feel good to head to the store with a healthy list in hand - and to put the food into clean, tidy spaces! That fridge of ours is going to need a good wipe-down, too! It's embarrassingly gross! emoticon

Update - cleaned out the freezer in the house and garage and tossed another full garbage bag - ugh! Defrosting the freezer tonight and plan to fill it with healthy meals. I'm looking into some batch cooking so I can have individual and family-size meals ready to go! I'm sick of cleaning/organizing but it will be soooo worth it in the long run!

Wow - watch out for Wendy's!

So I needed to stop for fast food this evening with my son. We stopped at Wendy's and I thought I was making relatively healthy choices. I had no idea that a small chocolate Frosty was so high in calories!!! It was 99 degrees and felt like 108 with the humidity and a dew point of 75 so I wanted something to cool me down. But wow - that was not worth it! It was 300 calories. I ordered two different chicken wraps - one was decent and the other was way higher in calories, etc. I didn't find any of this out until I got home and researched the nutrition content on the internet and posted the foods to my food intake. I'm glad I followed through with tracking the foods - even though it did put me 50 calories over the top and 1 gram of fat over the top for the day. I didn't look that closely at my sodium intake for the day yet - I know that will be way over the top because of those foods from Wendy's as well. At least I ordered water so that I could get my 8 glasses in today! :)

    You're right - when it comes to frozen treats, Wendy's is not the best option. I think a McDonald's soft serve cone is only 150 calories, though - just in case you're ever in an ice cream mood again.

All things considered, I think you did pretty well. There will always be days when we're over our range, but as long as it's the exception and not the norm...

    I haven't eaten fast food in 2012. I take my son to them and he eats while I pass up. I like the discipline it takes. The salads are good though but they need to do a better job of offering healthy dressings.

    Thanks for the tips! I have gotten the Southwest Salad a few times and have been very careful about what I put on it. It's delightful, filling, and helps me stay in healthy nutrition ranges. The problem this time was that I was driving so eating a salad was not going to work. That's why I thought I would try two options from the wrap section of the menu. One was a much better choice than the other so next time if I'm hungry enough to need more than one, I will order two of the healthier option. It's gotta be better than ordering a side of fries with it... emoticon

  I try to check out the menus online before I leave work and pick the best choices before I get there. So if I know it's gonna be a late day and we need somehting quick, I might look up Wendy's and go in with a plan. I ALWAYS just order the courtesy cup of water in fast food places. Ho0pe it goes better next time.

    I like getting a side salad with no dressing and a small chili - no crackers or cheese. Then I carefully dump the chili over the salad and - Taa Daa - my own taco salad without the chips!

Making a good effort...

Well, I finally got back on the treadmill today - and it felt good! I was very good about my eating and tracking until supper time. I ate some leftovers from Ihop and I'm quite certain that filled my quota of fat for the day. I probably ate too much at dinner, but I am not throwing in the towel on my day. I finished my water for the day and have resisted the urge to snack this evening. Tomorrow's another day - and I'm looking forward to doing some more exercise! I know my eating won't be perfect, but I'm giving myself permission to not track it all -a s long as I don't go overboard and loose sight of my goals.

    Wellll, I can't seem to find a place to record chest or bust measurements. So, that's what it is. (Not sure if I should be "embarassed" or not.) I just remember last time I lost some weight there were some changes in size and I'm more or less curious myself if that will happen again. emoticon
