Being capable!

Wednesday, June 05, 2013

We need to learn to listen to your own hearts and do what we know is right. I always used to tell my sons.."You can do anything you put your mind to do". And we are capable of much more than we think.

You are right again, as too often we say negative things to ourselves or allow others to do so. I've started calmly challenging those who do. A simple, "Now, why on earth would you think that much less say it?" pretty much shuts people up after a few times of being what we here in the South refer to as "nice nasty". I'm going to let the world know I worked hard to be who I am and I'm a winner! Hugs to you!

Contentment

Tuesday, June 04, 2013

And I have much more fun rather than worrying about what others think of me. Too bad we can't be like this when we are younger but age and experience seems to make this so. I am content!!!

emoticon , thanks for your nudge!! Being content reminds me of Paul's letter to the Philippians: "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed of hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him Who give s me strength!" (Phil 4:10-13). Having significnce (what others think of me) and security (being loved by someone(s) are needs we follow hard to get. But what if, like the Apostle Paul we rested in Christ Jesus, our Lord, knowing He gives us all the importance and compassionate care we could ever need. emoticon

quick note

Monday, June 03, 2013

Getting lots of exercise today. Cleaning up yard from the storm. We also picked the cherries that were left from the storms and from the birds. Got about 2 gallons and made jam this morning from that. Sad about our garden. We think alot of is is ruined from too mcuh water but we will wait and see if it recovers some. Tomatoes and peppers were hurt the worst. With the cleaning up, we will get lots of exercise around the place this week.

Down

Sunday, June 02, 2013

This is our big apple tree. We have since staked it with 6 fence posts and hoping that it recovers and lives. We do not think the tap root was damaged. The ground is so saturated from 10 inches of rain in 3 days that we pray the stakes hold. But as with any storm whether the real thing or the emotional storms we may go through after it passes we realize how blest we are. Today is sunny with no humidity and just a glorious day. We are so blest. We had no damage to our house or our bodies and we made it through some uncomfortable days of no power. And we are now realizing how lucky we were. It could have been much worse. I pray so for those in Oklahoma and also pray that they will realize that blessings will eventually come out of this. emoticon to all of you for the good wishes and prayers.

You have a very positive attitude! I hope the tree makes it. It will give you something to remind you that no matter how stormy it gets, we can persevere.

Rain Rain and more rain. (I'm back)

Saturday, June 01, 2013

Well it has been a long 3 days. After the tornado hit our area, we were without power until just about an hour ago. I won't be here long as I have tons of emails to removed from my box. But no damage to our house. We did drive to town yesterday during the lull and got some metal fence posts and staked the 2 fruit trees up and are hoping it holds. The main power trunk line was down on the side of the main highway and it took the power company until yesterday evening late to get that pole and line replaced but our power was still out due to the tree down at the edge of our property. They did come out and inspected it yesterday but didn't get back to fix it until around noon today. When they got it repaired they had to go remove some more limbs on the line further on and then about an hour after they left, the power was back on.
We fared better than most by having a portable generator. We can get 11 hours of run time out of 5 gallons of gas. So we ran it during the day to keep the a/c and freezers going and then turned it off late at night. Today I felt so sorry for the pour power company men having to tackle the trees and underbrush with their chain saws and it pouring down rain. We have had constant rain all day today. The day of the tornado we got 5 inches total rain that day and another inch yesterday and then today we got about 4 inches. We are hoping the stakes hold the fruit trees as the ground is so saturated it is awful. Flash flooding has been occurring. We are staying home and away from it all and thankful we live on the side of a hill and thankful there wasn't more damage to our place.

Sounds like your area was hit pretty hard. Glad you are doing well with little damage to your property. Hubby just bought us a little generator to have on hand for emergencies.

Woo Hoo for getting your electric back! We were out 5 weeks in 2004 after hurricane Frances, and we're in the city (but an old part). It gets old after a while, but you do learn to be creative about some things, LOL!

Stay safe. I hope your weather improves tomorrow.

emoticon What a blessing that your electricity is back on!! Also it is good that you have a generator. We are in the same "place" in the winter...nor'easters, ice and other snowstorms often take out our power, too. It is a good time to be reminded of our dependence on the Lord. Blessings! Nellie
