Forever Young

Forever Young

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

full blooms

Saturday, March 07, 2009

Well our almond and a couple of our plums are in full bloom now. It smells heavenly.
Weather report for next week shows a freezing night around Thursday or Friday. I'm praying it doesn't affect us. But usually if the reports say a few degrees above freezing it will get below here. I just don't want another disappointing year with our fruit.

Beautiful blossoms, sure hope you get fruit! I'm choosing late blooming varieties for my future trees, we usually lose the early ones to frost. So wonderful though to have the early fruit when you've waited all winter!

plum blooms

Friday, March 06, 2009

Well with the warm temps and sunshine, the trees are really blooming. Here is a closeup of the plum blossoms. It smells so sweet under them. And noticed we have more honey bees this year. We had a big decline in them for years and finally a further neighbor put in hives and I've gradually seen an increase in the bees. But strangely we had much fewer bumble bees last year. It is funny how they go in cycles. Of course the blooms you see here may set 1 -3 plums. We will probably remove all but one if that happens. I am so hoping we don't have a late freeze and not have fruit again. I want a good year with fruit to put up.

Beautiful! I use to put up apricots. Now I do blackberries because they are abundant in western WA. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Tilling the Garden

Thursday, March 05, 2009

Well we got the garden tilled today. It was warm enough for Sonny to wear shorts. I'm still not ready for removing my long johns yet. But the garden is tilled. He plowed it about a month ago during a warm spell. But it has been in the high 60's the last 2 days so needless to say all the early blooming fruit trees are beginning to bloom. I noticed the Johnny jumpups are also beginning to bloom. The violets will be in bloom soon. Everything in its time.

Blooming Almond tree

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

I don't know if it is a good thing that our almond tree is blooming. We haven't had any almonds in about 3 years due to the fact that it puts on fruit and then we have a late spring freeze. Some of the other fruit trees are beginning to bloom too but most that are blooming are too small to worry about as we would be removing the blooms from them this year anyway. But for the past 3 years a late freeze has gotten most of our fruit. I'm praying it doesn't happen this year.
