Birthday dinner

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Well I have had a wonderful birthday. I decided to get younger a year instead of growing older a year. Our middle son and wife met us to eat at Fisherman's Wharf. We had a window seat so could watch the waves on the lake water. We watched a pair of Canadian geese swim around. We got an appetizer platter with shrimp, clam and mushrooms and then a wonderful broccoli salad. The main dish was scallops (they were huge) and boiled new potatoes. I realized how much my stomach has shrunk as I could only eat 2 scallops and 2 tiny potatoes. I also treated myself to a Bailey's Irish Creme. I also got several cards in the mail today and heard from a long time childhood friend who I had not heard from in several years. I also got an email from a friend who is a German native from Stuttgart, Germany. I had not heard from here in years either. So those were the best gifts I could have received. I did order a new printer the first of the week and then we went by Lowes and got a light fixture for my kitchen ceiling. We do not have a light there and really have needed one. Sonny will be installing it tomorrow. I can hardly wait. It seems with older age, my eyes need all the help they can get.
I hope this day is an indication of my year to come. And thanks to everyone who sent me Birthday wishes. Big big hugs.

I am so glad you had a great birthday. You reminded me I have to mail a birthday to my childhood friend. We don't see each other often at all well years apart. We have talked on the phone or written or sent cards to each other for over 50 year's.

There is no day like tomorrow!!

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Well tomorrow is my birthday. Another day older and hopefully another day stronger. I will be 58!!! I used to think that was old!! My granddad died at age 58. My dad was 78 when he died and my mom was 88. I'm hoping to live to a healthy 98!! Continue the trend.

I have treated myself to a new printer and also going to my favorite seafood place. I know I can eat healthy there. Also going early to miss the crowd and also the food won't be on my stomach so long before bedtime.

Come help me celebrate!!!

Bloom Tuesday

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Today is bloom Tuesday. All our fruit trees are in bloom now and some have set fruit. We are also due a cold snap tomorrow night. Pray they don't get bit.

The picture is of some minature hyacinths. I dug one plant from a neighbors yard and in 3 years I have 3 clumps. This is the biggest and from the original plant. I think they are the cutest little flower. And look like a cluster of bells or berries. They don't have a smell to them. The bluebells are blooming now and they are sweet. I also found what I think is a wild plum blooming at the back of our property where I take my walk each day. It smells heavenly. I will keep my eye on it to see if it sets fruit. We planted some wild plums in our yard last year.

I just love these little Muscari (grape hyacinths). My mother many years ago made a celtic knot garden, with different plants interlacing to make the pattern. One of the "ropes" was made of grape hyacinths. The gardens were changed many years ago, but the hyacinths still come up in the grass each spring.

They come in baby blue, white, lilac, and a funny fringed double--but I like the original deep blue one the best, such a beautiful color!

Daffodils on new counter

Monday, March 09, 2009

Here is a vace of daffodils I picked. They are the double ruffle type. Also showing off the New counter top that Sonny made from cherry that were cut from trees on our property. He laminated it in strips. The shelf above he also made from cherry and it sits under our wall hung tv and holds our satellite receiver and DVD player.

Just Beautiful Barb! I am so jealous that you have fully bloomed daffidols already-we still have 2 feet of snow in some spots! I also need to know if Sonny has a younger brother who is single and handy just like Sonny :-) hehe

Have a great day!! Pam

Forever Young

Forever Young

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

Truly, age is not a number, it's an attitude! And for those planning to live forever, you really can be forever young!
