Christening gown

Sunday, May 03, 2009

This is my youngest granddaughter in our old family heirloom christening gown. It was worn by my grandfather, my father, me, my sister, her son and my son and now is worn by my granddaughter. I'm trying to locate the old photos of my son and dad in the same gown. I think she looks so sweet in the gown and such a legacy. With the addition of her mom and her into our family, I feel so truly blest.

She's a doll. What a treasure for sure. My Dad had something like that, but who knows what happened to it. Lucky you!!

sampler

Thursday, April 30, 2009

I posted this once and it didn't go up. It is a sampler I finished for my yahoo hand stitchers group. Sonny made the frame and I crackle finished it in black over red. The sampler is embroidered in stem stitch using red floss and the flag is appliqued in torn cotton prints. I tea dyed it and ironed before framing. I have 2 more to finish framing.

I love it Barb. I love Primitive Work. We decorated a Christmas tree for a charity auction and I stitched the Tree Skirt. It was a Primitive design and I was upset that one of the words was misspelled. When I called the company, I was told it was done on purpose. I felt so silly.

Anyway - good job! Sunny

Bloom Tuesday: Lettuce

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

I know this isn't a bloom but had to show you our lettuce. It is the leaf type and we planted it in these planters that run around the side and top of our garden. We had filled them with rotted horse manure from the neighbor's farm. These lettuce are twice the size of our other we have planted in the regular garden. And they are ready to be picked. I have been eating on one but you can't even tell it. I guess we will be having lots of salads now as it will bolt to seed soon if we don't start eating it quickly. Hot weather is here so things are really growing and turning green. We did have to replant our butterbeans. We decided not to replant the corn. We got both these seeds at one place and think they have kept it way too long and now it won't germinate. So we won't get anymore seed from there again. I wish you all could come feast in my garden!!!

Looks great! I just put in some 'red sails' lettuce plants, the rain we're having is sure helping them!

country lanes

Monday, April 27, 2009

This is one or our back woods country lanes. We love riding around these back roads as you never know where they will lead you and the sights you will see. Our lives are ptetty well like these back roads. Our past is already come and gone and we never know where each day or moment will lead us. All we can do is follow the road to where it may lead whether to the ruts in life or to the wild flowers or to a rainbow in the sky. We have to trust our Lord to lead us in the right places and to keep us from danger. Where does your pathway lead?

What a wonderful photo! We are blessed to have a cabin at the edge of a National Forest. There is NOTHING around us - just like your photo. And it is there that I can truly achieve total peace. Have a great day - thanks for sharing - and the path/lane leads where you want it to!!

Even though we wish we knew what was coming, I think the mystery of each day is a blessing. We never know what will be around the next curve, and find surprises even when we think we know how the day will turn out. I've always loved walking 'just one more bend', just to see what new thing I could find. Love your pic, makes me want to see what's beyond that bend!

Looks a lot like my neck of the woods here in Missouri.

My favorite pathway leads me to my best fishing hole and for that
I am so grateful.

God Bless. Sunny

family day

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Well we had the kids and granddaughters out for a belated birthday visit for the son. He helped to put up the new purple martin birdhouse that Sonny had finished making. We all had a great time visiting and enjoying the nice weather we have been having. It has gotten up into high 80F's here but wind has been blowing so it has been nice. Bluebirds are nesting in the new boxes now and hopefully we will have the martins here soon too. The last picture here is of the 3 granddaughters ages 5, 9, and 13. I call them the 3 stoogies. It took me 10 shot before they all quit acting silly to get a good shot. I think this one will be blown up and framed.

That is a great looking family you have. The bird house your Hubby built looks great, does he sell them or just make them for you? The stooges are so cute.
