2011 Here I come!!!

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

I have decided that this year is going to be the best year ever!!! I have so many plans and so many things I want to accomplish this year....mainly to get healthier. Also to spend more time with friends and family and doing the things I enjoy.

2010 was such a rough year. First off was doing well with the weight loss and winter hit and got the flu not once but twice..even after getting the flu shot...When deep winter set in, I was still trying to get over this but had no energy to get out and walk. My back had conked out so walking for any distance HURT!!!...then had trouble with my liver early June and then allergies kicked in and kept a sinus infection all summer and most of autumn..could not throw my cough.

The holidays went well as most of the kids were not here so no baking and cooking to do and I gradually got over the allergy bouts..Feeling so much better. Think alot has to do that it has been so dry here since June. We had such a wet 2009 and half of 2010 that the mold and milduew kicked my allergies in high gear and didn't quit until after the ragweed froze. Joints have not been as achy as well. My rhumitoid seems to be in check once again. I had PT for couple of months in the fall which helped so much with the back but wound up pulling my knee but it is now well and so I'm back to my ab exercises and walking a little. Still can't get more than a half mile in before the back goes out but so be it...I will just continue to do what I can do.

This weekend will be the final test of the holidays. We put off our Christmas get together with the kids and grands due to the son's having to work until this week. So this Saturday we have them all out for finger foods...I have veggie and fruit trays planned and fatfree dips to go with them. I am making candy but that will go on plates for the kids to take home so won't have the temptation in the house once Saturday is over. I'm wanting to take down my Christmas tree but am fighting the urge to leave it up for when they come.

I hope to get here and blog some at least once a week. So far this week is going great. How about yours?

Well, I sure know how you feel about 2010 and sickness. I had my fair share as well but................it is over and done and now on to a bright healthier 2011.

No matter how slow we have to go at least we are moving. I think for so many of us 2011 is going to be a wonderful year.

Hugs my friend.

I'm with you 100% on the bad health in 2010. Mine started in '09, and just progressed. I'm still not really back to functioning, but I'm doing what I can, 15 minutes at a time. Kudos for not letting this get the best of you, and best wishes for a healthier 2011!

November is here ALREADY!!

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Well after being away over a year and not fairing well, I tried to start back here this past spring but got another bout of pneumonia in June and then garden season came along with the heat and the dry dry dry weather. Then ragweed season and still dry. And hubby decided that the leaves needed blowing which kicked up dry dust and leaf mold...well you get the picture. Things in the breathing and allergy department are finally settling down. I had finally gotten into Physical therapy for the back. Well in the process I over did the leg stretching and pulled the tendons around the right knee. Having knee replacements I can't afford to hurt them. So I've just now gradually eased myself back into the exercises I learned in PT but minus the leg stretches. I'm looking into a lady who teaches yoga that is near us..I have also dug out my yoga tapes and invested in a yoga mat...now to find time to do them. With hubby retired, he makes it so hard to get into a routine especially when it comes to using the tv. We did buy a smaller tv so have plans to hook it up in my studio and get it cleaned so I can exercise there. Cleaning the studio is going to be a chore but will break out my masks and get to it today. Just figure it will be more exercise. I'm also back to measuring food and counting calories. I hope to get back to some of my groups as well.

Wow, I hope you get some relief soon. When you do not feel good it is so hard to be good. It takes awhile to adjust to the retirements. It will get lots better. In fact yesterday we went on a date and ate at our favorite place and drove, and even shopped (me as he stayed in the car) for a while.
Glad you are back.

Starting over

Monday, April 26, 2010

Well I have been so discouraged and down on myself. I had such a rough winter. First my back went out late in the fall and it put me in a frump...Then we ultra cold weather which is unusual here so I didn't get out much at all to even try to walk. I sat and moped around feeling sorry for myself about my back and ate and sat and sat and ate and gained all but 1 lb back. I'm very thankful a spark friend I have here came to my rescue. She was needing a diet and fitness buddy and she sent me a message. It seems she has been through major knee replacement (I had both mine replaced in 2001) so we have been emailing. I think all the stuff that they want you to do here was becoming a little overwhelming so we both have decided to mainly do the calorie counter and look up some of the fitness videos and exercises we can do or modify and forget the point system. We are weighing each Monday and keeping each other accountable. So far this past week I've lost 2 pounds. I've been researching back problems and feel mine is esculating to a worse stage as I'm beginning to drag my right leg. I have made doctor appointment and will try to continue to walk in spurts...5 minutes at a time is about all I can manage before the back gives me problems. Then I rest awhile and walk again. I also found walking on an even surface makes a lot of difference. We live on a hillside so walking up and down hill maybe put on hold for awhile. But at least I'm tackling these problems now and not sitting and eating and moaning and groaning about it. I probably won't do the spark teams much. They were just taking too much time also. I've also decided to get back to some of my crafting I so enjoy. In a week, I've completed a new traditional rug hooked candle mat for a swap. I have also entered a doll challenge for the Houston quilt festival...And maybe I will be in shape enough to make a trip to it in November. Anyway I'm back!!!

I am SO glad to have you back! The winter wasn't any better up here--two feet of snow plus, no room to walk anywhere!

So, it's spring, the flowers are blooming, the weather is improving, and our aches and pains better look out, because we're going to beat this thing!

Please keep us posted, we've missed you! emoticon
