One of my teams has a challenge to complete your crafting UFO's before the end of the year. I have 5 I listed I want to finish. I just finished this heritage piece to honor my mother's side of the family. I plan to make another for my father's side next.

A little background. The cross-stitch sampler is called "Coming to America" and depicts my grandparents and greatgrandparents immigrating to America through Ellis Island. My great grandparents were tailors and the first photo shows them in front of their tailor shop in Texarkana. My grandfoather worked for the railroad and my grandmother acted as nurse/doctor for the poor in their area of town. Their house was also marked for "good hearted woman" to the hobo's and they knew they could get a meal there. My grandparents had 18 children of which 14 lived to adulthood. My great grandparent's name was Larson and my grandparents name was Johanson but they changed it to Johnson. My grandmother and grandfather were 1st cousins. Second set of photos shows my grand parents and my mother. My mother's first name is Amalia but most called her Molly. My youngest granddaughter is named Amalia and called Molly after her. Her middle name is Belle and named for my grandmother on my dad's side of the family. I hope to do another heritage piece to honor my father's side of the family.

I have been working on a few UFO's. I have been getting some of mine all together. Yours sound so interesting and much more complicated than mine.

Birthday part 2

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Man this birthday thing kind of snowballed. I posted to my statis here that today was NOT my birthday. I forgot it was linked to FB..well several there picked up on it and then noticed that there, FB had the year wrong. They had 1905 which would have made me 106 years old..so But think I finally got it fixed. But had a good joke all the way around...what a way to spend your second birthday. Laughing is so good for you.

Not much going on here today. Humidity seems to be down some but still going to be another hot day. I finished appliquing a new penny rug/candle mat last night to go in the magazine. I'm thinking I may make another one today. They are a quick gift to whip up and I like to have things on hand for that occasional surprise for someone.

I did well on the calorie count yesterday. But didn't get the walk time in like I wanted. I slept in for a change yesterday. But I'm up early this morning so as soon as the sun comes up, I'm heading outside. Have a good one.

Birthday hoax

Monday, August 29, 2011

Well don't know how that happened but have been getting birthday wishes all day..Could it be that I'm now having 2 birthdays a years...seems that way at times. NO my birthday is in March and think I or someone posted it wrong somewhere here???

But on to my last 2 days..they have been pretty good. Didn't make it to church Sunday like planned but have helped hubby with the bathroom remodeling. We have all back in but the sink cabinet and sink and fitting the faucet handles. It is looking so much nicer now. And so much cleaner.

I finished my raven cross-stitch sampler. I redyed it a 2nd time and like the orangier color better now. Have to get hubby to make me a frame for it..I want to paint the frame black too. I've started another one called "Coming to America"...it will be a heritage stitching for me as my grandparents and great grandparents all immigrated through Ellis Island. But I'm using other colors than what it called for. I'm also busy working on my fall magazine....Stitching Memories Magazine. I have girls day out with one of the DIL's planned for Thursday. This is a tight months so won't have much to spend but at least I can go and get out some.

Heat and humidity is back so staying inside but eating more fruit and trying to walk and exercise inside. Heat rash seems a little better as well. Hope the meds I got is curing it.

Hope you all are having a great first of the week.

I sort of thought you had had a birthday earlier but decided I must have been wrong. But it did give me an idea for something to try on Arkansas Ladies.

I have several remodeling projects in motion that I need to finish

Saturday came slowly

Saturday, August 27, 2011

After this whirlwind day, it seems like Saturday took forever to get here. Got a small walk in yesterday. With humidity being lower, it is so much easier to breathe outside. Have had a time with the heat rash itch so hubby had said to put alcohol on it...it worked..It keeps the itch at bay. And good news is he is back to normal and toe is just about healed. That is one thing I've seen having RA over the years....when I get cuts and bumps they seem to heal really fast. I've had no pain with the toe and it looks great..And other good news we have the partial floor in the bath..the wood top floor that is..and we have the tub installed and the base of the commode is in so no more stink at least. We are headed to Atwoods this afternoon so going to be another busy day.

On a crafty note. I've been working on one color sampler that is worked in black. It does have a border or bright orange. I'm working this on evenweave and wanted a pale orange fabric. So I looked in my wool dyes and didn't have an orange so pulled out food coloring...it is not color fast even with me trying to fix it with citric acid..but will work..well the color was a little too peachy. I didn't have quite enough yellow..so once I'm finished stitching it, I will tea or onion skin dye it. It is of some ravens with Edgar Allen Poe's quote.."Quoteth the raven, Nevermore"...I've always love his work and love crows to this is going to be a nice fall piece. I will have to get hubby to make a black prim frame for it later. Have several hooked rugs and penny rugs to get done soon too. Just dreaded pulling out the wool in the heat we have been having...on to my walk now.

Can't wait to see the finished needlework.

Glad the alcohol helped with the rash.

what a day

Friday, August 26, 2011

Well have to back up some and tell you that hubby has been sick for a couple of days..bad sinus infection. He always waits until it gets out of hand. So finally got him to call the VA clinic and they called in meds to our pharmacy. Day before around 5p.m. I had walked down to the garden to check the rain gauge and stepped in an old pipe hole we had beside an old fruit tree which is no longer there. I fell and thankfully didn't hurt anything except I cut a gash in my big toe. It really didn't hurt and I cleaned it and then really washed it good when in the tub that night. Well I thought while I'm headed to town to the pharmacy, I will run into my clinic and get a tetanus shot since it had probably been longer than 5 years for having one. Well was going to call the pharmacy before leaving home and realized my cell service was out..so went on to town anyway. Got to the clinic and found out our land lines in the area were out as well so therefore their computer system was down. The nurse practioner wanted to look at the toe...so clinic time wound up being around an hour and half due to the computer outage and her working me in. She did minor surgery and removed the dead skin and cleaned it out. The deadening shots hurt worse than anything..(still don't have any pain from the toe)..She also looked at the heat rash I've been suffering wtih for a couple of months and told me it was a yeast infection..so on to the pharmacy to pick up both our meds and their computer system had just come back up so had another half hour wait until they sorted things out..then the debit card machine wouldn't work..so wrote a check and back home after almost 3 hours...But good news....toe still doesn't hurt and hubby was so much better within an hour of taking his meds..only bad thing is the heat rash seems to be worse. Before it wasn't itchy and not it is itching like crazy...under my boobs is not a good place for the itch..Another good thing when I weighed at the clinic, I'm still holding at my early June weight so the little I lost before then is staying off..now to get back to losing again..Temps and humidity is better today!! So out for a walk.

It sounds familiar to wait. I waited 3 weeks before going back to the dr for what was going on with me. Enjoy the walk.
