Spring gardening

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Today we got 2 of our clematis and 1 lilac bushes in the mail. So we headed to town and bought a livestock panel and 4 fence posts to make a trellis. So we finally got it up but still need to get another piece of the wooden trellis to go at the bottom to keep the clematis roots shaded. My other 2 old clematis are leafed out and growing. We had cut them back last summer when we did the porch remodeling. They look healthier than ever. We also got one lilac in and expect more of them, 4 more clematis and some forsythia and smoke bushes. The peach trees are now blooming. I just love spring. I got alot of exercise today just helping with the gardening.

Well forgot to weigh yesterday so did today. Sundays or Mondays are my weekly weigh day. Well I was so disgusted. I had gained a pound. I had lost 4 the last month and then gained one and strangely I have upped my walking and have kept my calorie count to the low side. I've cut out most of my sugar except for one tsp. in my early mornng tea. I've also cut out alot of my fat I was getting in my diet...don't know what heppened. Maybe next week I will have lost 2 or 3 instead. Got to keep my hopes up.

Your landscaping is going to be lovely!

It's still confusing to me, but is it possible you cut too many calories before as you increased exercise so you're body is in hoard mode with the calories?

Yard Dogs

Monday, March 05, 2012

We have this thing for rescue dogs. Here are our 2 yard dogs. Both were rescued. The larger one Lulu was a puppy that someone was getting rid of. We couldn't bear to see her just thrown away. So we got a rescue dog discount and had her neutered. We had taken her mama as well but alas hubby accidentally ran over her one day in our driveway. The other smaller black dog is Fredrick. He was another rescue dog that someone was just throwing away. He is supposed to be a Chihuahua but think there is something else mixed in. He has pretty well bonded to me and to Lulu. They are such best friends and will run and play all day together. It seems they are always up to something. Lulu has taken up with my husband and any time he gets out in the Kawasaki mule, Lulu jumps in beside him for a ride. They have such energy and pep and sometimes I watch them wishing I had just half as much energy. They both are our "keepers of the gate" and alarm us to anyone happening to come up or come by our place. I think they are teaching me to try to romp and play as hard as they do. Just wish I could keep up with them. I did get a 10 minute walk in. And keeping my calories on the low end. So will weigh tomorrow and know if things have changed.

Blooming!!

Sunday, March 04, 2012

Thought I would share a couple of pictures of our blooming garden. We have quite a few fruit trees but the Ozark plums are always the first to bloom. We had slight frost this morning and temp of 32F but think they fared ok as it didn't last long. I'm praying we have good weather from now on but we have at least a month or more that could have cold or frosty mornings.

Our garden is tilled (as you can see hubby working so hard)...we have the leaf lettuce seeds planted and the onion sets (that make green onions) in the ground. I do love spring so much. I also got my first asparagus sprout and ate it raw right from the garden...o so good...Veggie season will be upon us sooner than we think. Robins are back until they migrate on and even saw some bluebirds.

Spring makes me want to get outside and do more walking. Hope everyone gets some good walk time in this blooming season.

My little Fat Gracie

Saturday, March 03, 2012

We found Gracie on the side of the road down from our house. She had a little brother who was almost dead. She was so thin that you could count her ribs and she had so little hair she looked bald. She smelled awful as well. She weighed less than 4 pounds. We brought them both home and the little male dog didn't last long but she began to thrive with care. We bathed her immediately which she seemed like she had never experienced that. We named her Gracie as it was only by the grace of God that we stopped to pick her up. We had passed her by 4 times that day. It was a wonder she hadn't gotten run over. We fed her and loved her and could tell she had not had either one. In fact we began to think she had been abused. After we had her a couple of weeks and thought maybe she might cintinue to live, we took her into the vets...He weighed her at a little above 4lbs. He checked her out and gave her a shot and we took her back home. We scheduled to have her neutered several months later. About a year after we had her, we took a trip to Branson and left Gracie in the back laundry room with her doggie door. For the entire 3 days we were gone, she never touched her food and don't think she slept. We did not realize she had bonded with us so much. Well now it has been 4 years. She is attached to us more than ever though still has her moments that she gets scared. But as you can see by the picture, she is thriving. She has turned into a fat little thing. In fact she was so fat at her last vet visit that we had to put her on a diet. She has only lost about 2lbs I can truthfully say that Miss Gracie and I are on the same path together losing the weight we both so need to lose to get health.

I remember you found Gracie at the same time we got our Gracie bun bun. We named Gracie, Amazing Grace and called her Gracie for short.

I am so glad you little fur baby daughter is so healthy and well. And hey we all need to lose bit of weight now and then....ha

I know she is just a delight to you and she found her *forever home and family* when God lead you to stop and take her into your life.

She really is a cutie pie.

Reminds me of a dog my family rescued about 35 years ago. I had never seen so many fleas on one dog in my life. His fur had so much hair gone. We had to take him to vet for treatment right away. My oldest daughter is who Scamper latched on to and he wouldn't let any stranger to him check on her at night. A visiting grandmother tried. He avoided most men.

Sounds like your Gracie is one special dog.

Birthday surprise

Friday, March 02, 2012

Nope today is NOT my birthday but it is coming up soon. We had not planned anything in particular to do and since I had missed my son's birthday this past week due to the fact that he was off shore working..so he arrived home yesterday for his 3 weeks break but it really isn't a break. He has a class he has to take in Florida starting this Sunday. It is for 2 weeks but he has the weekend in the middle off. So his wife is flying down and they are going to Key West for the weekend..but when he returns on the 16th, we have plans to meet them and go out to eat somewhere for his and my birthday though they are both belated. But we had not planned to go anywhere for a few weeks, but got a letter from the gastrologist and I have appointment....guess when...my birthday...what a gift..ha!!! Have to be over in Hot Springs at 8:45 which is fine as at least being that early I have the rest of the day to myself. But seeing as it is a 50 mile drive we have to leave home at 7:45..so no sleeping late that morning. But really I'm glad I have the appointment as maybe now we can get down to the bottom of the bowel problems I've been having.

O and good news I have lost a pound. Sonny had been bragging all week how he had lost so much lately...well he weighed this morning and he was up by the same amount he had lost..I know I shouldn't be happy but really it makes me so frustrated to see him lose so easily and I struggle so..and just goes to show that the scales will go up and down from day to day.

Already got a 10 minute walk in this morning...going to get more later. Have a good one.

They DO seem to have an easier time, don't they!

Oh well, I'm in it for the long haul....

Hang in there, victory of any kind is sweet.
