Gnome Village

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

I worked hard today getting the little gnome village in order. Hubby had been complaining that it was hard to weed eat around them..so we made a concrete moat around an area by the gnome tree and then hauled in crushed rock..I repainted most of the older gnomes that had weathered so badly. The picture doesn't show all the gnomes I have...I have 2 more hidden in the ivy around the 2 gold fish ponds and one in my garden wheelbarrow..It seems the kids and grandkids are always getting me gnomes for gifts.

On diet and exercise...I've had a hard time getting the lower amount on my calorie scale..I am not getting enough calories..so not overeating but finally have found that I'm not hungry like I was when I first started out here. I also am managing 2 walks a day. My back still won't hold out more than 10 or 15 minutes at a stretch..but hey I'm trying and am getting at least 20 minutes a day total walk time in and I walk fast too..So I feel myself improving more and more everyday. Allergies kicked in again..Privet hedge is in full bloom..Oak tree pollen is gone now so a couple of weeks of staying on top of this bout and I should be good to go until fall when rag weed hits. I never had allergies growing up and didn't have them until I hit about 50..so don't know why..But I am managing them better now too.

What a great project! I love all your gnomes, and that tree is precious! Very creative .

Breaking up your walk is an excellent way to get the exercise minutes in. Continue to do what you can and you will surely see the progress.

That's great! It is so darling. I'll get working on mine once the goats are sold.

This has been a bad year for allergies. Between my constant red eyes and ick nose and my balance problem I walk around looking rather drunk most of the time. Oh well, keeps the neighbor's mouths active!

how wonderful !!!!!!!!! I do miss my own place... landlord puts up with the stuff I already have on the patio - he says nothing in the grass...LOL... there is a tree in my yard that would be perfect to do something like that- my gnomes are sitting in my big flower pots- I had 1 standing and something broke it...

owl rug

Monday, April 16, 2012

Many of you know that I have been working on an owl rug to go on the wall of my spare bathroom. Well he is finished except for the limb that goes at the bottom..I didn't plan on collecting owls but on a yahoo group we had a swap for making fabric owls..So when I made one for my swap partner, I made me one as well and then I went on to hook one..2 of my sweet daughter-in-Loves caught on and began to buy me owls. One even gave me an owl teapot..(I'm an avid tea fan)..So I put most of the owl things in my spare bathroom so now it is my Owl room. I told them not to get me anymore owls..I still collect gnomes for outside so they still continue to gift me with them.

Another note...I took the owl rug and the sunflower rug (seen on my page) to an art guild meeting today. They were switching out paintings and other artwork in their store like they always do every quarter...they wanted me to hang them in their store. So I have brought the paperwork home to fill out on the sunflower rug and will be taking it back up there in a couple of weeks..Now since I've never sold a rug before, I am at a dilemma of what to price it for. It is 24 x30 and was told many years ago to charge $50 a square foot...not sure that it is the same today..and there are lots of hand dyed wools in it..so hopefully some other rug hookers can help me out.

And another note along the line of rug hooking..I decided sparkpeople needed a new forum for rug hookers..so I set one up...I'm only member so far..hahahaha...

It's been a good day.

Your rug is beautiful! I started a rug many years ago, it is still not finished. They take way more patience than I have :-) I would have no idea how to price one, time alone is a lot. I hope you come up with a price that gets it sold for you!

Plum good

Sunday, April 15, 2012

If nothing happens weatherwise, we ill have plums this year. We have several varieties from a small wild yellow to an ozark to a green gage to a red....We eat at many as we possibly can and we give away and also make lots of plum jelly. I'm thinking of maybe trying to just can some this year to eat next winter..An plums are plum good for you as well. They are a good source of fiber and many vitamins (C and As) and minerals (potassium) ..They have high anti-oxidants, help with blood clotting and also with alzheimers..so eat your plums...they are plum good and plum good for you.

Excellent! Isn't it great to have free produce??

Our neighbor gives us figs and pecans, and we have a garden for veggies. Have you tried freezing the plums? Just wondering if that would work. They might be good stewed or just defrosted with a bit of sweetener.

Last year I discovered that what was supposed to be ornamental plums actually had really good plums on them. I just got a few off tree and was waiting a few days to get more. When I went back they were all gone. I guess the squirrels had been getting them all along.

Weighing

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Today was weigh day and I'm down my 1 pound..I'm excited about this and am hoping that next week is even better. Personally I don't like weighing as usually when I weigh one day, I want to weigh several times that day and then everyday. It is hard to resist weighing whenever I see the scales..But I do love seeing those pounds come off. I can feel my clothes getting looser as well..I'm just hoping the weather stays nice enough to keep the walking routine up. When it gets hot, I have to get up at the crack of dawn to walk and when it is too cold, I'm so achy that it is hard to get going. But weighing and walking go hand in hand I think.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I have found that if I don't weigh in I really get into some bad habits. I only count what I weigh in the morning. My husband weighs morning and night. I can't convince him otherwise but he has lost 35 pounds so I won't argue.

    Great job!

I don't weigh myself very often since I am stuck at a plateau. I do, however, keep track of how I am doing with my fitness levels and with how my clothes are fitting.

Just another busy day!!

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Just been busy today running errands and doing things around the house. I did manage a 15 minute walk but much too short really. I need to step it up some. I did eat on the low side today so that part wasn't hard..But it was cold again today...Finally we built a fire in the firepit so I was finally able to sit and get some hooking on my owl rug..Sorry for the short post.

I also had a busy day, but doesn't seem nearly as productive as yours, as I didn't even get a walk in. 15 minutes is definitely better than none ;-)
