Jam

Monday, May 28, 2012

This is what I've been working on today. I put up 35 pints of plum jam...We won't eat it all but they make nice gifts at holiday time..and it is so yummy...it is from our Ozark plum tree. We have picked 20 gallons off it and it still have about 20 gallons left...very productive tree. Got lots of exercise today too.

Little bit of Heaven

Sunday, May 27, 2012

I thought I would give you a few pictures of our place. First bounty from our garden. Every container has some kind of fruit or veggies.

This is our gnome garden update. We put a concrete border and then gravel. It makes it easier for hubby to weedeat around it.

Check out the hidden gnomes in the small gardenia bush.

The 2 ponds surrounded by ivy. New trellis is the the right, firepit behnd them, gazebo area with our house plants to the left. I also have 2 old wringer washers with ivy and plants. (see previous post on goldfish that explains our ponds)

Pottie garden. These are at left side of porch going out to the carport. I have been lucky to collect 3 of them and think that is all I want. They have been in full bloom.

This little garden cart is directly in front (across the sidewalk) from the potties. We found out with our heat, that those faux sweet potato plants do the best rather than flowers. Also notice the dead grass in the background...most of our yard looks just like this all over...and this is just May..usually it won't look this bad until July or August..But last year and this year have done a number on our grass.

Thats all folks. These photos are just the front of our house. Not much in the back. We have a yard for the dog and storage buildings in the back.

Beautiful garden! I love the hidden gnome :-)

Do you do any canning or preserving? Our first year in this house, I made plum jelly and just about anything else I could find to fix with plums from our backyard. Since then, hubby figured out how to manage the blooms so we don't get more plums than we can eat and share with the neighbors each season. I mentioned to him again this week I would really like to put in some raised beds to do a minimal amount of gardening, but he reminded me I have no time now. Maybe in a few years.

Living the Past

Saturday, May 26, 2012

I just love this saying and it really reminds us that we can't go back and live our past...once it is gone...it is gone for good...so we need to concentrate on the present and plan somewhat for the future but still you never know what the future holds for your life so enjoy each moment as they come. Do your yourself and making yourself healthy in the present moment and don't regret the past or worry about the future.

Under the 200 mark

Friday, May 25, 2012

I'm giving myself flowers..gardenias that is...(bush is in full bloom)...but it is to celebrate finally making it under 200lbs...just by half a pound but hey I will take all I can get..last time I weighted I was 201 so that is a drop of a pound and a half...I'm so excited...and really have been naughty this week and ate at the top of my calorie count and also didn't log them in like I should have this week...so it is surprising to me. Tomorrow is my official weigh date so maybe I will be down that other half pound..I can wish anyway..It has been so slow this time around but has been steady...about half a pound a week...and I will take that anytime...the longer it takes to get there, then I can enjoy the trip that much more..

Have a great memorial day weekend..no plans for me..I don't do the rush at this time of year.

gold fish pond idea

Thursday, May 24, 2012

I always wanted a gold fish pond ever since I was a child and happened to stumble across one while visitng some friends who lived in the country. They had not kept up their pond well and it was over grown with vegetation. In fact I think they had forgotten it was even there. So several years ago we picked up 2 round bathtubs at a salvage company. They were big, deep and round. We sunk both in a small hillside beside our house. One is above the other. Hubby tried to fix a waterfall between them but we couldn't keep the water from pumping out of the top one and then seeping our around the edge of the waterfall feature. We were refilling the ponds daily it seemed so we just removed the pump. In the many years that we have had them, we have planted ivy around them and added water lilies. This year we added gold fish. We had gold fish before but one severe winter the water froze completely and so the fish froze with it...We bought our gold fish at a bait stand near us. It seems some fishermen use them for bait. So feel like we have rescued the ones we bought. We had to buy them by the pound and didn't realize how many were in a pound. We probably have a dozen in each pond..But they seem to be thriving. Our granddaughters sure enjoy looking for the fishys..

How fun! The tubs are a great idea for the ponds. I hope you get to enjoy the fish for many hours this summer :-)
