Fast Dash Weekend

Monday, June 04, 2012

Well our trip to Texas was a made dash!!!!! Really not much fun..no sight seeing and it was so hot and miserable the entire time.
We left home around 8:30a.m. Friday and when we were within 40 miles of our destination, we called for directions to the motel..told to drive to Magnolia..but they failed to tell us it was in New Magnolia not the old one so we drove about 15 miles past our motel and had to turn around and go back...so arrived around 5:30..rested about 30 minutes and then went to the son's house..

They live in a gated community and was told the gate would be open only to get there and found it locked so had to wait about 20 minutes for someone to come open it for us. The visit was an eye opener..the DIL's entire family was there and they were all inside their beautiful home in the a/c...and no room for us to sit anywhere so hubby and I and other DIL with her girls that live near us and the son all visited in his hot garage shop, but at least we got to visit some with him. Granddaughter who was graduation was only there 5 minutes...

Then on Saturday the graduation was at 3p.m. Hubby and I usually eat just 2 meals...breakfast and then lunch around 3..the breakfast which was free at the motel was awful and not healthy at all..had a queasy stomach from it and we couldn't eat until after the graduation. Graduation was at Texas A&M campus in the Reed Arena. The college had scheduled all the area high schools for the same day so the traffic and the crowd of people was just terrible..With 400-500students graduating per school..Well we left as soon as the granddaughter got her diploma. The motel was an hour and 20 minute drive from College station so we didn't eat until we got back and then decided on Mexican food at cafe next door to motel..it was the worst food ever...and so needless to say, eating this late and such terrible food all day, made me so sick all night, so I didn't get very much sleep. The reason we didn't eat with the son and DIL and her entire family is they never eat until around 8:30 or 9p.m...
Sunday morning hubby got up early and went over to just visit with the son. He told him the next child who graduates that we will come the week before or the week after but never to that mad house again. We left around 9:30 and got home by 4:30.

The reason we didn't visit much at the son's house either was not only was the DIL's entire family there but her ex-husband and his new wife and his other ex-wife and her husband and all their kids...it was a madhouse with all those people and also the entire neighborhood..several families with kids..We just don't do crowds well..So there won't be a repeat.

So good to get home and back into routine...thankfully I didn't gain a pound but didn't lose any either and couldn't get much walking in either.

Now that we are home, we have garden to pick and water, blueberries are ripening and so are the peaches..so going to be a busy time for next few weeks.

That sounded like a terrible weekend. I've never had to deal with such a thing with my children and their in-laws. I guess I am fortunate. We have never had that big a gathering. All the ex's made me think of a Chrismas that got a bit strange with a step-son I had.

I have a cousin that lives in College Station but I have only seen her at a few funerals and when I was a very little girl.

Oh my goodness. It does sound like a very hectic weekend. My hubby and I are not big crowd people either. I would love to live closer to my sister when we retire, but her hubby has a HUGE extended family that is around all the time. They never have gatherings with less than 40 people at them, and that would drive me crazy.

I am glad you made it home safely, and back to you routine.

Have a great week!

Getting Ready

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Well we have been getting ready to go to Texas tomorrow morning...have our bags packed and cooler is full of garden goodies for the kids and will pack our eating cooler in the morning. We have bathed the dog. and watered all the plants and now taking it easy.

O guess what I found out today while tracking my calories. I had a little chocolate chip cookie dough left over...the refrigerator kind. I rarely bake cookies anymore but thought I would bake what was left to take along..I had to eat one after they were done you know and felt so guilty about eating something I had been considering a no-no...well they only have 59 calories per cookie....WOW was I surprised and since I hadn't even made my calorie count at the lowest point today...I ate another and it brought me to 1258calories for the day...what a treat!!!Sometimes we just have to have a treat or 2. The rest of the cookies are packed up for hubbys treat while on the road..

I also weighed as I won't be here Saturday to do my usual weigh day...and have lost another half pound..Half pound a week....slowly but surely is my motto.

A Texas Howdy to ya! Home you enjoy your trip. I don't bake sweets because I have to eat one as soon as they are done. And they never all fit in the container I am storing them so I have to eat what doesn't fit. :(

Busy busy day

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Have you had one of those days where the time just flew and you were just so busy that you had no time to think...I'm retired and still had one of those days..I had forgotten how tired it always made me feel at the end of the day. And really I wasn't as busy as I was in my working days. But this is how my day went....

I work up at the usual time, had my cup of hot tea and hooked awhile on my new rug. Hubby fixes breakfast so as soon as we ate, I put on makeup and dressed and drove over to a town 15miles north of us where I had hair cut appointment at 11:30...then hopped into the thrift shop there for about 10 minutes and then to the art guild board meeting at 1p.m. (I was just elected to the board so felt like I needed to go to find out what is going on) and it lasted 2 hours with nothing really accomplished (at least I don't think it was) due to too many ideas thrown around...got home ate a late lunch and then a friend of ours we hadn't seen in 2 years came out and she stayed for over an hour...never got on the computer until late and now trying to play catch up on emails.

Tomorrow will probably be as busy. We are going to Texas on Friday so have to prepare everything tomorrow..we plan to take a cooler with some prepared food as eating out is not an option for us much as I usually get sick from it. So we will prepare breakfast biscuits and have sandwich things to take along. It will be an 8 hour drive down there and we plan to take our little house dog..and with the heat we have been having, I'm really not looking forward to the hot drive even with a/c in the vehicle..It will be a rushed trip Friday and then back home on Sunday..So I may not post here much until Monday.

We are almost 100 here, but not as humid where you are going. Taking a cooler is a great idea. Hope you have a fun, safe trip!! emoticon

nice day

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

My sister and BIL came out today and ate breakfast with us. We cooked nad ate under the gazebo..had a great visit...and they went home with garden goodies. Got a short walk in before the heat became unbearable...going to have to start getting out early to walk. Humidity is terrible..Thought we would get rain today as we heard thunder but it went north of us..we really really need it.

So besides their visit I've rested today...haven't done much at all. Going for a hot bath and to bed early and read.

How nice for you that your sister is close enough to share breakfast with! I really enjoyed my sister's visit a couple of weeks ago. Although, hers are a plane ride away :-)

This is what I've been working on today. I put up 35 pints of plum jam...We won't eat it all but they make nice gifts at holiday time..and it is so yummy...it is from our Ozark plum tree. We have picked 20 gallons off it and it still have about 20 gallons left...very productive tree. Got lots of exercise today too.
