The Old Courthouse

I was wanting to try to paint or draw this picture of our old courthouse for our county seat. It is one of the older ones in our state that is still standing. The senior citizens group in this town has music on a stage on the courthouse grounds every Saturday night in the summer. So really the little wooden building obstructing the view is a concession stand..so I would omit it from the artwork. One of our members of the Artist guild there has taken a professional photo of it and is going to offer it for sale soon in our gallery. We really need more art work for our area scenery and her photographs do it justice...

I also met for the program meeting today at the guild...Man demo-ed lettering for murals and signs..pretty interesting..and had my cat rug jurored to hang next month. One thing I like about this guild is that they do not serve refreshments like the other guild I attend does...The other guild meetings they have a full banquet laid out and I really don't like it as it meets at night and I can't eat at night unless I want indigestion all night and then too, we are there for a purpose and not to feed our faces...and looking around at them you can tell they all like to eat..The guild I met with today are a much thinner crowd and I enjoy it so much more.

    I love the old court houses of little towns throughout AR, Fort Smith has a beautiful old court house down town as well.

Yes MaryAnn it was sad that our old court house got hit by the tornado but it sure looks good now that it has been redone. I grew up all my life with that courthouse and Mom's place is just up the street 5 blocks so we go by it every time we come to town.

I love that you are enjoying the new group your meeting with and I agree, a drink (coffee, tea, lemonade is all you need) when your meeting.

    Is this courthouse in Mt. Ida? Good to see it is used for other things. It looks interesting. Our courthouse got hit by tornado of 2009 but has been repaired.

Husband's Fault

I'm a little mad at myself and also at my husband...but really I am to blame..He decided to go with me to work at the gallery tonight...One leasson he learned is that it is terribly boring sitting there doing nothing...but when he gets bored he gets hungry...it is the only time he really thinks about food and lately he has lost quite a bit of weight too. Well him sitting there bored tonight, he decided to go get a milk shake..so instead of me telling him not to get me one he leaves and comes back with a vanilla shake and also 4 fried pies...and these are huge homemade fried pies...my risistence is that I have none unless I don't have things in the house like that which I don't...I won't keep them at the house and only keep the kinds of sweets he likes and I don't so won't be tempted by them..course I eat one pie...at least I resisted eating 2 even when he is asking me if I want another or even half of the other...thankfully I told him no...but I did drink the shake...it really was good for a change and not really sweet at all...almost like a glass of milk really with a tiny bit of sugar..so probably didn't have as many calories as I put in on my calorie counter...but even at that...I went over my calorie count by 1100 calories...guess that is my splurge for the next 3 month...and even when I'm getting ready to start the 5% challenge....So guess I will have to eat under 1300 calories this next week to keep the weight off from this one splurge...I'm really not beating myself up but next time, I won't take him!!!!I know my limits...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr only myself to blame..Tomorrow is another day.

    LOL - my husband does the same thing. I build up strength throughout the day and suddenly when I get home and he starts suggesting things for dinner and desert, I'm a gonner.

    Sometimes you just have to splurge and it is okay. It's the daily splurges that will derail you. Instead of limiting yourself to 1300 calories for the next week, how about 550 extra calories burned through exercise and then just 79 fewer calories every day than your average? That equals your 1100 calorie splurge and you won't feel deprived, or like you are punishing yourself for splurging. Just a thought :-)

    You know what the wonderful things about husbands are? They love us no matter what, we go crazy losing this weight for us, they aren't telling us too.
I don't think he was trying to be rotten getting you those things, he just loves you no matter what...
It's ok to have a one day splurge like the other person said life is short... Make sure he has a good father's day!

I just had to share this picture..I love making my yard different and whimsical and this is just made with a mound of dirt. Looks like they may have sculpted the ears from concrete. The mossy face and looks like grass or maybe iris hair...but can't figure out what the eyes are..Just think how much exercise someone got making this..I would love to have something similiar..we will see.

Cutting calories

Our next assignment for the 5% challenge is to figure how to cut out extra calories from your diet without starving yourself..Here are mine..

1. If I get the craving for something crunchy, then I will eat half the amount of Bagel chips or pita Chips...I had switched to these chips instead of potato or corn chips but by just eating half the serving size I will save half the calories and still satisfy the crunching and the salt I seem to crave at times.

2. Instead of icecream, I am indulging a half cup of sugar free frozen yogurt for a savings of half the calories. I have made smoothies using this and a cup of our fresh picked blueberries and a banana...get my fruit with my treat and doesn't add that many calories for a sweet that is better for me.

3. Instead of sucking on peppermint candy I have been chewing sugarfree peppermint gum. Saving the calories and still getting a longer bout of the mint I sometimes need for my cough.

    I put my list on the forum. I like yours, but I would overeat any kind of chips so that doesn't work for me. However, I've been having some success with a cup of cheerios. They are small, salty, crunchy, and only 110 calories a cup.

5% lower weight, here we come!

    Good strategies! Do you like fruit on your ice cream/fro-yo?

A grocery store near us makes these funky popped grain snacks in-house, and they're a good "low-impact" crunchy treat. They're kind of the consistency of rice cakes (a little puffier and more airy), about 3/4 inch thick and 6 or 7 inches in diameter, come in several savory and sweet flavors, and -- get this! -- are under 20 calories. I forget the name, but if I remember I'll let you know, and you should see if anywhere around you carries them or something like them.

    Super ideas!! (I get my cravings for crunch satisfied with dry roasted almonds. Watch out though! They are high in calories but come with so many benefits. They are nature's statin to help with cholesterol, contain healthy fat and provide protein to help the hunger to go away.)

I need to come up with some ideas of my own to reduce a few more calories. I weighed today. I've been at exactly the same weight for 3 weeks now!! Time to make some type of change. I must have reached equilibrium between calories in versus calories out. Bummer. Oh well, like I said, time for a change.
