It has been a slow lazy day today..All our gardening is over and a hint of autumn in the air..It makes me so lazy. I did get a 20 minute walk in and worked a little on my horse. And I've started a felt stocking kit..We also went to town to the local grocer to stock up on some of their weekly special. I bought 10 packages of the Knorr side mixes that were 10 for $10 and they had a in store coupon (which I rarely use coupons) that if you bought 10 packages of the Knorr mixes you could get up to $5 off on a package of chicken..I got a package of chicken breast for $5.50 so was only out 50cents on the chicken..Hubby found some good deals on other meats and we stocked up on our milk supply..so it was a worthwhile trip to town.

I hope to be more active tomorrow but may rest again as I meet my sister for an intense day of walking and visiting on Friday.

Some days i have the slow days, but that is ok once in awhile. I think i may have a slow day today, i do not feel so good, and i have a doctors appointment that is in the middle of the day, so can't really plan anything around that. Hopefully tomorrow will be better days for us.

Great deal on the chicken! I can't eat beef because of allergies, so I tend to cook a lot of chicken or fish. I usually wait until it's on sale and buy 15 or 20 pounds of breasts at once. Then spend the afternoon, cleaning, packaging, and freezing.

I love your new background picture!

Cell phones (part 2)

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

This is the ongoing saga of the cell phone situation..

We drove the 50+miles to nearest Walmarts to check out phones..We bought 2 Straight talk phones..and 2 $30 cards with 1000 minutes on each of them..not counting the cost of the phones..our service for a total of 2000 minutes is going to be $60 per month which is $30 cheaper than the plan we had with Verizon for just 450 shared minutes..So THERE Verizon!!!!!!!

I really don't like the phone as well but can text, message and even go on the internet some..with 3G data..but probably won't..but what I don't like about it is that my other was a flip phone so I didn't worry about my butt dialing someone's number when I carried it in my pocket and the other thing I don't like is that it has a keyboard you can type on and the numbers are mixed in a tiny section of the middle and third...the keys are so tiny..so guess I need to get one of those pointer things like the grandkids have for their games..And lastly we have to wait a day or 2 until they turn our service on..but the price every month is so worth all this other..and we did get cases to carry the phones so we won't dial someone with our butts...(We used to tease our kids about that when that happened to them)...We will get used to these phones..I may have to get much much stronger reading glasses..I need a cell like my picture shows with a rotary dial..

I will let you know later when they let us use them whether I like them or not.

I don't like tiny keys either. My phone is only 2G so I need to update it but it is so easy to use and Zack doesn't know how to get to the contact list even though I have told him many times so I hate to think about an update.

You will get used to the little keys! It just takes some practice. After I got my first phone, that wasn't a flip phone, I wanted to throw it out the window because I kept hitting the wrong key. It took a week or two, and now I only mess up once and awhile.

I am old school when it comes to new gadgets like cell phones...Let me give a little background to my phone lines first...
We moved here to the "boonies" in 1986. We had a phone that was a party line land line which was all we could get at the time. We had the party line phone for about 4 years until Alltel finally upgraded to a private line..and that was about the time you could get internet here but it was dial up only for years. Then finally cell phones came out but we could not even get cellular service for another few years..we live in a really hilly mountainous area and to get any cell service you would have to drive to the top of a mountain to use a cell phone so we never bothered to get one..then finally Alltel sold out their landline service to windstream and windstream upgraded and we finally got DSL but still no cell service in the area..then finally they built a tower in our area and we were able to get cell service which I promptly did..Then Alltel sold out to Verizon and things changed and got worse..Now we have been with Verizon through Alltel for years!!!!!! and been good customers all this time..bills paid on time etc...

Well about 20 months ago we decided we needed new phones and really didn't want to get on a so called "plan" with a contract..and since we were both retired, I decided we needed to ask for a senior discount..well what they gave us was awful!!!! We had to sign an 18 month contract and get new phones since we were still using alltel phones..then they said they could lower our bill to a senior plan and so we went ahead and signed the contract..well we got a savings of $4 per month is all and we lost minutes..we went from 700 minutes to 450 minutes but we were told we could have cell to cell minutes free..and it included other company cell phones..well our contract ran out in June and they called us wanting us to upgrade to new phones and sign new contract and I told them no..so we were not under contract with them now..well got my monthly bill and it was double what it usually was..it was $156 and was usually $89...Now we are very basic people and don't text, don't message people and don't use any dataplan...never go online just very basic calling people and talking to them is all we ever do..but my sister is with ATT and I had been calling her cell phone and so Verizon charged me 5cents per minute for going over my 450 minutes per month and this was calling her cell from my cell or she calling me from her cell so Verizon screwed us all the way around..

I called them this morning to see what they could do and talked over 2 hours to 2 different people and they could not do anything..they could upgrade us to more mintues but would be more than what it was when we had the 700 minutes or we could keep the plan we have now..They would not work with me at all.

Now here is the bad thing.. since we are in such a rural area Verizon more or less has a monopoly here..the only other service we can get is straight talk..I explained to Verizon that I could go with Straight talk and get a dataplan to use phone for internet cheaper than they could do for me with no dataplan..and still they would not budge..so I told them to just drop us..then they said we had been such good customoers over the year that it was sad they couldn't do anything for us..well they have just gotten too big for their britches..so tomorrow we are going to get a straight talk phone..

My wish is that more people would just drop them and go with someone else and then they would think about it if they start losing customers..and I'm making sure to tell everyone how sorry they are..

AT&T isn't much better. We started off with a modest bill, and you should see it now. We to, are thinking of cutting back, going to a pre-paid plan or something.

I hate how people can't just get simple cell phones with basic service these days. They think everyone wants a fancy phone with an expensive data plan. I do have a smartphone for work (paid for by my employer so I can read my emails on the road), but for my personal phone I just wanted a basic phone - I didn't need a camera, an MP3 player, games, or surfing capabilities - I just wanted something to make a phone call with! But sadly, those options don't seem to be available anymore.

Cookies O MY

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Nope haven't had any in a long while..I don't even keep them in the house but have a temptation in the house right now..I bought a big bag of mixed hershey candies to fix bags up for the granddaughter's new teachers..well more than half of the bag was left. I gave it to hubby to put up in his room but instead he put it on dining rooming table....but at least I don't walk in there much..but it has sure been a temptation..but so far I'm doing ok and not eating any and I noticed he is getting down to the bottom of the bag..yea!!!

I'm Crowing!!!!

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Excuse me while I crow!!!!

I'm so excited to see my results in 8 weeks. I had joined the 5%challenge for summer and today was the end of it. Here are my results

Starting weight 199
Ending weight 192.5

6/23 Beginning measurements
Chest 46.5
Bicep 15
waist 40
hips 46.5
thigh 25.5
neck 15

8/18 Ending Measurements
Chest 46
Bicep 14.5
Waist 38
Hips 46
Thigh 25
Neck 14.5

The one I noticed mainly was my waist..loss of 2 inches...I knew I was able to fit in my smaller size 18 jeans and now this is the reason..

The fall 5% challenge won't start until sometime in September and I'm so looking forward to joing again..in the meantime I plan to keep pushing and hopefully will be down even lower...the weightloss has slowed so know I'm reaching a plateau but I will emoticon

Great losing in the waist is always a great feeling. Some days I am able to have more of a selection of pants. Not all of my 14's are created equal. My first goal is to have all of them fit me too loose. The other loses are great also.
