walking

My back has been aching today and not sure it is a weather change coming or the way I've been sitting cutting up wool or what. I did manage to get a 20 minute walk in but had to do 10 minute spurts..I used to walk several miles a day until this back issue arose..On days like today I do good getting 15 minutes. I also need to remember to wear my back brace so it will make the walking easier.

My sister was a jogger and runner and was always trying to get me to become one as well. I was a hker then..but jogging always seemed to hurt the back and also the boobs..She doesn't have that problem...but now she is having major back problems to the extent that she is having surgery on Thursday..I do worry about her with this type surgery as have always heard horror stories about any kind of back surgery..

Today has been nice and quiet and mainly cutting the wool I took apart into woolie worms to hook into my rug backing..My bins are becoming full again with my woolie worms.

    i am not up to jogging yet, but i am progressing with the distances and the speed in my walking, maybe you need to start back there too.

    Walking is my main form of exercise too. I try to do a walk/jog once a week, but it is pitiful to say the least. I used to run at least 5 miles per day, but a lower back and knee injuries have made it most difficult. I can walk though, so that is what I do.

I hope your sister has a good recovery from her surgery. I know people who have had surgery and do great, others not so much. I am sending positive thoughts your way.

    I do like walking and do try to jog off and on - but walking is my fave.

    I have had both of my knees replaced so running is not in my future. But I love to walk with my dog.

I hope that you have a better back day tomorrow! I know when I sit and craft too long my back starts to hurt. you may want to set a timer and get up every 30-45 minutes to walk around the house. Just a thought! emoticon

    I've been toying with the idea of trying running again. I hated it in gym class, but that was decades ago. And this time I wouldn't be wearing the dorky stretch shorts and white cotton shirt, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

Grams of Fat

I'm so glad to have the sparkpeople tracking..and find out how many grams of fat or how much protein I'm eating..It makes it so much easier. If you don't use your nutrition tracking then you really need to check it out..I've discovered alot about my eating patterns there...

We ate bacon this morning for the first time in months maybe even a year and man didn't realize the fat grams in it..so guess that may be a special treat from now on. I do know when we quit eating bacon our cholesterol went down..something to think about.

    I don't use the nutricitain checker everyday but it is very enlightening.

We don'd eat bacon very often. Mostly at home we used the precooked bacon and there is less fat in that (it was already had a lot cooked out of it) and we don't eat a whole lot of it.

    I use the Nutrition Tracker every day, and sometimes the fat content is scary in some foods. I love Costco's maple bacon but it is really high fat and high sodium, so have switched too Turkey Bacon. It isn't nearly as tasty, but fits into a healthier diet. Besides regular bacon has all those nitrates that we really don't need in our bodies.

Finished AT Last

This was one of the fastest rugs I've every hooked and completely finished even the backing and blocking...made record time and will all the stuff I've had to do this past week as well..So hope you enjoying seeing it..I have another Halloween one ready to start but will put it away to get ready for next year and maybe start a Christmas one instead. But before I start it, I have 4 big bags of wool clothing to take apart and cut into "woolie worms" and also want to work on my quilt top as well.

Diet and exercise note:
Keeping my calories on the low end. Lost one pound this past week..Walking a little more and have added the arm exercises I so need.

    I have never seen a rug done like that! How cool. I am like you have many projects! I have a quilt that I am trying to finsh as well as a scarf!

Diet sweets

This cartoon about says it right..you know it doesn't hurt to eat a little bit of something you like be it sweets or salty snack..just overdoing it is bad.

Been a very very busy day. Got a walk in early. Then drove to nearest town and did a little grocery shopping and to hardware store..then drove over to the DIL to exchange turnip greens and okra from our garden for some sweet potatoes someone had given her..back home and ate a quick lunch and then to other town further away to gallery to paint the hallway floor..in between all that have managed to bath the dog, do a couple loads of laundry, change the bed linens, and hooked on my rug. In fact I am almost finished with the hooking part and then hope to have it backed and blocked to take to the gallery sometime next week..Keeping busy and making sure I get enough protein seems to keep me feeling full and not wanting to snack..along with sugarfree gum..

    some people need a lot more education when it comes to the calorie count of sweets; especially when it's offered in tiny pieces versus a regular size (sometimes oversized) piece that they come in calorize. Stores will do anything to try to trick you into buying their products in stores, restaurants, etc.

Balanced Diet

You know when you go by SP and plug in your calories and then run your nutrition panel you find it very hard to meet all you daily guidelines. I've been having major problems getting enough protein and calcium..But then I usually take a calcium pill a day too so feel like I'm getting that one ok..but even the doctor told me I needed more protein. I have been getting tired in the afternoons and she told me it was because of that when I told her what I ate..she suggest 2 T. peanut butter..but even though it is good for protein boost and the fat in it isn't as bad as some, it still comes in high in calories...I don't want to eat more eggs as I eat one egg for breakfast every morning and don't want to boost my cholesterol more than that..then I could eat yogurt but really don't care for it that much..and then there is turkey breast...I do keep this on hand as hubby will smoke them along with our hams every couple of months..then I found the Babybel cheeses...and the light ones have protein and not as many calories as the nut butters..and also found out that the lowfat or fat free milk has to be enriched with extra calcium as when they remove or reduce the fat our bodies can't absorb as much..so I drink whole milk..I just count the calories in. I don't normally like drinking my calories but thinking of all the added benefits of whole milk..the fat in it helps your body absorb the calcium and vitamin D..so it isn't as bad for you as you think..I normally drink just 1 glass a day and it is usually the amount that totals for entire day that I put in my tea..but with cooler weather coming on, I will be drinking a cup of warm milk before bed..think it will help in many areas for me...added calcium and vitamin D...added protein and added bonus of helping me sleep better.

Over all it is hard to keep a balanced diet..I have an easier time during the summer months when our garden is coming off but I'm working at it..and we do have much of our fresh produce in the freezer now so eating on it as well.

    I have a hard time with protein and fat -it is a struggle balaning it all. I do eat panutbutter almost daily - I find that it feels me up. And I love it!!

    Protein is the main nutrient that I struggle with as well. I found that eating black beans, pinto beans, or lentils every day helps. Also cottage cheese or greek yogurt. Those two are definitely an acquired taste though.
