My day on Tuesday

Wednesday, November 07, 2012

What a nice day I had yesterday. First we went to vote and you would think in our little rural community we could get in and out in a jiffy...didn't happen..waited 45minutes to vote..they only have 2 machines and all who were waiting to vote were retired couples..

Once finished there we drove up to my sister and BIL's house which is an hour and 20minute drive..They took us out to eat at local cafe and I did so well as ate the Chicken Caribbean salad with raspberry vinegarette on the side.

I took some more pictures on the drive but sun was so bright and being in a moving vehicle didn't help so won't post them here.

After our lunch, hubby and BIL worked on their bathroom re-do and sister and I drove over to our old RUG hooking teacher's house..I had mentioned she has MS but found out it is Lou Gehrigs Disease..she is almost completely paralized but has such an up-beat attitude. Several other students were there as well. I'm not in the photo since I took it but sister is the one hugging her..and that with having back surgery about 15 days ago.

I could tell my sister was getting tired as this was her first big day of getting out and doing so much..but had hubby take photo of us together.

Tracking Calories

Monday, November 05, 2012

Do we really count our calories correctly? Do we really measure our food properly or do we estimate? I know sometimes when I estimate, I'm eating way more than my calorie allowance for the day..We need to read the serving size on whatever we eat and then try our best to measure it properly.

This week as we track our calories in the 5% challenge, we need to make sure we are measuring correctly..Let's make it a habit to measure and track every day and not just for the week the challenge has it up for...Tracking keeps me honest and then I know if I'm really eating properly or eating too much.

Here in Germany its a little easier because the labels mostly just list nutrition information per 100 grams. I just weigh everything with my handy dandy scale.

I don't always measure but I am getting more aware of serving sizes. and amounts.

I weigh and measure EVERYTHING! My scale is always handy and I have three sets of measuring cups. Sometimes I am "spot on" but more often than not -- I am cheating myself! And I want every bite I am entitled to!!!

Yep - it can be an issue. I agree that it is something to focus on this week as we track.

I know I should measure more--I am at least looking at the serving sizes and adjusting!

Noel Moose

This is my finished Christmas rug. I am now working on a family crest for one of the son's and hope to make 2 before Christmas..but they are large so may take more time.
I'm going Tuesday to visit my sister for the first time since her surgery..she is doing much better. We may go over to the lady who taught us both how to hook rugs. Karen has quit teaching and hooking altogether as she has MS and she can no longer do it. But if my sister is feeling up to it, then we will go and I will take her my family crest rug for some pointers.

Got some good walking in and staying within my calorie range...Hubby just built a fire in the firepit outside so I'm putting on a sweater and going to join him.

Autumn Walk

Saturday, November 03, 2012

I'm really surprised that we have any fall color this year due to such high temps and dry weather this summer but we do have some color around our place. So thought I would share some photos from around our place as I walked today.

This is the front of our house from the driveway.

A tree across the road from our house in neighbor's pasture.. Hubby said it was a red oak. I love the color it is showing.

Our house from the a different angle.

A view looking up our hill behind our house.

A view of a some lovely color at the property line.

Exercise

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

As many of you know ...I just don't like exercise except for walking..I used to be an avid hiker until the RA took it's tole on my knees and hips..now I mainly walk for exercise...I did join the 5% challenge and on the Awesome A team we have an exercise game which I'm really enjoying...never thought I would say that..but I'm also thinking of adding a Bollywood tape to my collection and maybe this one I will use..

My DIL joined a local gym near her (way too far away for me) and she has a personal trainer now who is really whipping her into shape..I'm so proud of her..She has also taken up boxing!!! and defensive training..so she is getting a good work out now.
I'll just stick with walking and the exercises and Bollywood.

I hope your hubby feels better very soon!

Biking is suppose to be good for RA sufferers, I believe. I like walking too, but am biking after my knee because very arthritic. I still like walking better, but read on the stationary bike to pass the time.
