"Perfectionism does not lead to perfection."

To succeed, you need to grow, learn and expand your world. Perfectionism limits your growth and takes away your chances of finding a more excellent pat.

Many times we want our weight loss to show perfectionism and yet we only sabotage ourselves in the process. If we don't reach the place where we think we should be perfect, we sometimes give completely up and quit. But we shouldn't think of dieting as trying to get to perfection. We need to look at this not necessarily as losing weight but as getting healthier to live life to the fullest.

Each of us is as different as the snowflakes and yet no snowflake is completely perfect, just as no person is completely perfect. Sometimes we expect too much and when we don't get to that level of perfection, we think "what's the use." Perfection can come at a high cost, not only to our health but to our mental and emotional state as well.

Let's strive not for perfection but to enjoy the ride and concentrate on getting healthier so we can enjoy the ride.

Those who matter in our lives!!

Saturday, January 03, 2009

" There comes a point in your life when you realize:
Who matters.
Who never did.
Who won't anymore.
And who always will.
So don't worry about people from your past, there is a reason they didn't make it to your future."

I don't know where this quote comes from or who wrote it, but I had kept it because it really makes sense. At this time of year we prioritize the things in our lives that are the most important to us and it should also include those people we surround ourselves with. I had a difficult time at Thanksgiving with one of my daughter-in-laws. I've tried and tried to please her and it just doesn't seem to work. And each time, I get my feelings hurt. Well I've decided to take this quote to heart and not worry about trying to please her or anyone for that matter except the ones who really matter. I'm lucky in that I'm married to my best friend. I also have one wonderful, sweet daughter-in-law who is more like a daughter to me. I have another daughter-in-law who I'm growing to love as my own as well. I am so blest!!

Cracked tooth

Friday, January 02, 2009

This is a picture of a healthy tooth. Mine aren't so healthy. For one thing I have rheumatoid arthritis and know I have week joints and bones. Another thing after years of some of the meds for RA I have an ulcer and acid reflux. The meds I take for it reduces calcium and also causes weak teeth. I go to the dentist once a year to have them cleaned. This past September the dentist noticed I had 2 cracked teeth. They were not bad and since I do not have dental insurance, I decided to wait on getting them capped. Well I figured if the tooth went ahead and broke off, then I could be out the $800 to get it fixed. Well my tooth cracked open this evening and it was/is too late to call the dentist. It is a pretty large crack and hurts when I bite down. It will have to be repaired now. It hasn't broken off yet and I'm hoping it doesn't. I'm just praying I can make it through this weekend and can see the dentist on Monday. It might be good for my dieting in that I don't think I'm going to be able to chew. ...so guess it will be clear soups and yogurt. Also won't be able to talk much as the air hitting it hurts it..so good on my husband's ears.

Baggy Pants

Thursday, January 01, 2009

You know I never notice the weightloss on me until I get a look at pictures I've taken. I then realize how much I really have lost and what it looks like to others. I have refused to buy new pants in that these loser ones feel so comfy but then I take a look at myself in a picture and realize I need to buy me a new pair of pants. A friend of mine informed me that it looked like a baggy diaper that a baby wears when they get "full"...well it is no longer full so think I will be shopping soon. I used to hate shopping as I would get so discouraged having to buy such a large size or sometimes go up a size. Now think it will feel good to buy a size smaller for a change. And think it is time for a bra as well. I also found out this week that a favorite pair of shoes I have no longer fit and in fact were hurting my knee. So guess I've even lost in my feet. So it seems I will be in the market soon for a whole new wardrobe. Yipee!!!

Hot Mineral Springs

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

I live just 40 miles west of Hot Springs Arkansas. It is the only town that is located inside a National Park system. I love this town. They have many bath houses and you can fill up water jugs free. I took a walk along the promenade Monday with my sister. It is located behind the bath house row and you get to view the open hot springs. They say each spring has a different healing property to them. They also have 2 cold springs in the area as well. Hot Springs has an interesting history from the Indian and early settler days to the Al Capone days of the 20's and 30's. He is supposed to have been shot at in one of the bars in town. I've visited a local cafe now located in one of the historical upstairs bookie joints. It is one of the few towns that allow gambling in our state, with a local horse racing track. Horse racing season is in February and I avoid the town during that time. Also it is a hot destination spot for bikers. The area is surrounded by 5 lakes so many outdoor activities abound. Also President Clinton went to school here and his mom and stepfather resided here until her death. It has a pretty decent night life and also has alot of family friendly activities with a theme park and water park. It has an interactive museum and also a beautiful garden area called Garvin Woodland Gardens. We have 3 hospitals and many homeopathic healers in the area as well as massage and hot bath parlors.

What does this have to do with getting healthy. Well I've added a monthly massage to my routine and I meet my sister once a month or more for a hike or walk. It is a perfect spot for getting a "fun" day of exercise in. I also like eating at a very healthy "salad" shop which has been listed on "Best of the Best" on the food channel. So I can say I live in the best of the world and it is just 40 miles away.

It sounds wonderful!! My folks were hot springs nuts!! They found many many in Oregon, Canada, and Alaska. I learned to swim at Takini Hot Springs outside of Whitehorse, Yukon!! I think taking that walk with your sister is terrific!!!
