Assignment 6 (5% challenge for winter)

List YOUR reasons/excuses on why YOUR diets and exercise plans have not been well executed in the past. give 3 or 4 reasons and for each write a strategy that will keep you on track for 8 weeks. Let's learn from our past behaviors and make this our best Challenge ever!

1Main reason or excuse is that I procrastinate. I think about going out to walk and then something else catches my eye that I'd rather do and so I wind up doing it first and then may not get to the main issue of walking and exercise.

2. One excuse on overeating one day maybe as I make some kind of goodie for hubby and then I indulge as well. With warmer weather coming soon, I've decided not to make the sweet indulgences...It won't hurt him and especially will help me in the long run.

3. I have good intentions on exercise and then (since I don't like exercise) I put it on the back burner of my mind and just refuse to do it especially if I have the least little ache and pain. I justify not doing the exercises to the fact that it will make me hurt worse. I'm going to try to start overcoming those excuses and just start planning it.

4. One thing I think good thoughts but don't put it in writing. I need to write out my daily plan each day. Thinking to write each evening a plan for the next day and write in exercise or walking as first thing to do. Once I get it done first thing in the morning then I can get on with the rest of the day and not fret over the fact that I haven't done anything for exercise..no regrets this way.

Walking

Really I'm a pretty fast walker and in fact hubby complains when we go shopping together as I can out walk him in speed but lately with my back out of whack, I've slowed way way down and just enjoying the stroll...

keep calm, be happy

After getting so mad yesterday I've found that keeping calm makes me much happier. But it seems some of the banks and mortgage companies are now charging to do bill pay online..and it just ticked me off no end and as a result my entire day was not happy...I did type them a snappy note and posted my payment and the note off for my monthly payment..seems our old mortgage company went bankrupt and turned it over to Green Tree and those crooks and thieves want $12 per month to pay online..or $12 to pay by phone. This is not a one time fee but has to be paid every single month...that amounts to $144 per year extra they are making. Well I decided that paying for a stamp is much cheaper... could do bill pay through my bank but would have to go into my small home town bank each month and set it up in person..well living 7 miles from town, the stamp is still cheaper than the gas to go up there..And when you think about it...our poor postal system which is needing money due to people like me who have been paying bills online instead for the convenience and being able to do this free...well from now on they will get my business instead of those thieves at Green Tree..

Anyway today I'm in a happier frame of mind. My sister called while we were eating our late lunch and I didn't answer but waited until we had finished before calling her back. So I'm enjoying a calmer day and much much happier for it.

    Sorry yesterday was so stressful, but glad you are doing better today. I get so annoyed dealing with that kind of nonsense. I used to take my cable bill into the office here to pay it, and they started charging a $1.99 a month extra if people did that. You stand in that line (and ours is usually crazy long) and then they decided to start charging you for the privilege of standing in their line....gah. I wrote a "nasty gram" to there home office, sent a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, and started mailing in the payment.

5%challenge lesson 4

List ALL your trigger foods.
I need to eat more fruit and to me in the winter fruit tastes awful..no flavor. so in winter I find my triggers are more comfort foods like mac & cheese...sweets like homemade pies....and salty snacks like chips.

What are the sources of the Triggers Foods?
I don't eat out much and so the things that would be my source would be keeping chips in the house. I've resorted to keeping only those salty snacks that hubby likes and I don't so I won't be tempted. Also on the sweet pie triggers, I'm trying not to make any and when I do, I limit myself to a tiny bit and then let hubby have the rest. I'm thinking that to get more fruit that I like to start making fruit drinks using our frozen fruit and pureeing it in a blender to make a slushy drink.

(By the way hubby does not have a weight problem and he has low BP even without meds and is 5 years older than me)

Describe the most common situations where you reach for the trigger foods or snacks. I do go ahead and plan a snack mid morning. We only eat 2 meals a day..breakfast and late lunch so if I really get tempted to snack it is in the early evening hours and then I have it planned ahead to eat some Babybel lite cheese. I can eat 2 of them for a serving with less calories. I also am trying to eat dried apricots or prunes but everything I'm eating I track the calories ahead of time to make sure I don't go over.

I think I'm doing the right things to control my trigger and know I will have days that I will eat one of my triggers but won't beat myself up over it if I do. With warmer weather I'm going to try to walk more to avoid wanting to snack and also chew sugar free mint gum which really helps. I'm also planning on drinking more water and tea to keep me hydrated.

    Good job realizing and listing your triggers. This 5% challenge will be great.

Only suggestion: Plan to eat 3-5 healthy meals every day - even small ones. Divide your allotment of calories up between these meals.

For me...
300 for br
300 for lu
200 for a snack
600-800 for dinner

    I really like the idea of listing my triggers! Thank you for this suggestion! For me a trigger is definitely brownies and another is french fries. I think that having it written down would somehow make me more accountable!

5% challenge changes

This is our 3rd assignment so thought I would list here again. I did this once already but will post again.
list all the reasons you want to lose weight. What do you want to change? How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body? And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!
1. Reason I want to lose weight...To help my back pain and keep other joints from falling apart. To breathe better.
2. What I want to change.....i want to do more walking daily and add more core exercises. I really need to do more abs to strengthen my back.
3. How do I want to look...duh!!Thinner and fit my clothes better..
4. How will you want to feel...back not hurt as much and able to walk further especially on our big trip this summer. I want to be able to breathe better as well.
5. What I will be able to do with thinner healthier body...walk further, breathe better and fit my clothes better.
6. Change other things....new hair cut and new clothes to fit the slimmer me.
