Book mobile

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Do you ever remember the Book mobile? Well a long long time ago when there were not many libraries around, some of the bigger libraries offered a service of bringing books to people in a van. I found this photo and can remember the newer vans that used to do the same. This picture was before my time but even as a child I remember the book mobiles. I was brought up in a reading household and we always had books and magazines around. Many of our magazines were they types that you learned things from like Reader's Digest and National Geographic. I always get a library card where ever I've have lived as I love reading books. When we first moved here the libraries were in small towns but being in a rural area that is 7 miles to the closest town, I found a service that our state library system had called "Books by Mail". They would send out a circular and you could pick books from that and order for free and they would come in a mailing bag kind of like the leather money bags. After you read the books, you would put them back in and put the choices for the next mailing and put them in the bag and mail it back. I think our state library still has this service. Well I got out of the habit of doing the books by mail and would occasionally get books from the library. Then I found "paperbackswap.com" online and I would take my old books..not just paperbacks and would list them and for everyone I mailed to someone who requested it, I could order a book free. I've gotten rid of a lot of my books I will never read again and gotten new books for myself or to give as gifts. Now my eyes have gotten where it is hard to read a printed book but I bought a tablet over a year ago and got the free Kindle app...the world has opened back up to me now as I find I can read these better than those on the printed paper...so I'm back to reading now. But looking through the years at how reading has progressed...First only the schools had books, then small libraries and larger libraries, book mobiles, books by mail, swapping online and now e-books...And being an old Reading teacher I'm glad to see that reading is still around.

I remember the book mobiles. They used to come around to our school and I always wanted more than the limit! My Mom was a librarian and English teacher and I have read everything around for as long as I can remember. I too love my Kindle (I can make the font bigger and don't need my glasses). And I can take a whole library with me when I travel!

Thanks for the memories of the book mobiles!

Love the picture emoticon I sort of remember when the library where I grew up was a library on wheels -- they have a permanent building now emoticon

My daughter bought me a Kindle for Christmas two years ago and honestly I have not fallen in love with it yet -- maybe because it has a defect - I can rarely get it to "wake up" on the first try - takes many, many, many attempts -- never have to do that with a hard or soft covered book emoticon Give me one of those any day

Even in Japan we did had a book mobile. I never use the service but it was there.
I love my Kindle. Since my book case is full og books and no more space for not even one thin book. Kindle you can have about 3000 book in your e- reader apps. How awesome is that!? Also you can make letter the size you want as big or small. And there is no waiting time..like mail order books. You can down load is in a minute!!
I just love my kindle. Enjoy your reading !!

The city near where I live still has bookmobiles! There used to be only one main branch so they used the bookmobile to cover the different sections of the city. It doesn't quite look like the one in your picture though :) I love my kindle but there is still something about a good soft or hard cover book.

Out in Western Kansas we still do book mobiles in many of the smaller communities. Our book mobiles don't look anywhere near as awesome as this one, however. Our school system also has a book mobile. It is full of children's books in multiple languages and goes out into neighborhoods to encourage children to read with their families.

Choose happiness

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Did you know that you can choose the moods to be in. If you are down, slap a smile on your face and choose to be happy. I have lived a long time with this motto. Happiness is a choice so choose to be happy!!!

Where is the Creativity?

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

My mind usually runs on overdrive..I am always thinking 100 things and usually never at a loss for ideas for my drawings, rug patterns or stitchings. But for the last 4 days I have been on auto pilot and cannot think of anything creative!!!! It is literally driving me bonkers. I am hyper active and even though my body won't usually go as fast as my mind, I usually have to keep some kind of hand work especially in the evenings while in front of the tv..lately there has been NOTHING!!!! I read 2 nights and then last night I spent trying to find inspiration anywhere. I looked through countless books and magazines, perused the internet on my tablet and still no spark of inspiration. I think my mind is just stewing on something that will make it worth the wait. But thought also last night to do some mindless cross stitching just to keep my hands busy and my studio is such a mess that I couldn't even find the charts I wanted to work on and the ones I did find didn't strike my fancy. So think this told me it is time to organize my stuido today...maybe in doing so the inspiration will spark.

I keep hearing that reorganization will do the trick. Someday I'll get to that emoticon . I'm sure that you are right, there is something brewing in that creative mind of yours. It will eventually make it to the surface! emoticon In the meantime, cut yourself a little slack, reorganize, and give your brain some time to percolate! Right now, I'm trying to convince myself to keep a journal of ideas so that when I get to a percolation point (note- not a creative block!), I can keep my hands busy!

I rediscover different craft items and find things that I had misplaced when I reorganize . Hope that inspiration comes soon! emoticon

I get inspiration and log it in somewhere when I am on another project. What i need is "unction to function." A little time would help, too. emoticon

I bet that'll do the trick! Just need a little input to jog the wires a little. I think you and I may have a similar process...

Sparkpeople quotes

Monday, April 08, 2013

I've noticed that in the past week that Sparkpeople has had some terrific quiotes..so thought I would share them again.

We give up too easily so often and then we think we have to start over..why start over when we don't have to.

We can succeed in anything we put our minds to.

Remember everyday is a new day and a new start!!!

Painting your life

Sunday, April 07, 2013

Like an artist we are constantly painting our own life. We can paint it happy or paint it sad. Our attitudes make the difference.
