iris

Wednesday, May 08, 2013

This is a photo of my iris bed when it first began to bloom this year. We have expanded it another 6 feet on the other end. Once the bloom is finished we will split and transplant some of these. The iris is my favorite flower and is truly a "fancy lady"...I think I have every color under the sun. Some are rebloomers and will bloom again in the autumn if we don't get the heat and drought like we have had the past few years. Then some are hybrids and others are the old antique varieties. Some even traveled from house to house whenever we would move..and some of these came originally from my grandmother who also transplanted them from place to place in her life time. It makes be feel so blest to know I have something that once came from her original plants. If you want to see more and better photos go to my gnomes home blog to view. gnomes-home.blogspot.com

Beautiful! And how wonderful to have some from your grandmother! I wish we had thought to bring some with us when we moved from our first home.

I needed today!!! It is one of those special days where the weather is just perfect. Pollen is almost gone so allergies aren't as bad. We took a drive out to one of our area lakes this morning. Took this shot of a pair of Canadian geese. They nest around our lakes this time of year and imagine this is a nesting pair. They mate for life by the way so it is always a treat to see them in the wild.

Had a good romp with Gracie dog and good walk in as well. Stopped by the farm store on the way home and got fertilizer for the garden and potting soil. Got home and repotted our lemon and orange trees. Admired the iris bed. We are expanding it several more feet so have it tilled and covered to kill out the weeds and grass before replanting.

I also noticed that some wrens are nesting in my old straw bee skep. So excited about that.

Today has been a much better day.

Hi Barb, this looks so pretty. We live by a lake too and I love the water fowl that is around. We have neighbors who chase the geese with their lawnmowers but we welcome them (even though they can be messy). There are lots of goslings around right now, and ducklings too! They are so sweet!

happy!!!

Monday, May 06, 2013

Today was not a happy day for me. First I had a breathing test done at out patient and was above average on all the tests but one and was average on it. I was having stomach ache all morning and thought it was due to having to get up at 5:30 and leaving the house at 6:00 but it continued to hurt. Then after the test we had a little more than an hour before my pulmonary doctor appointment so went to McDonald's to eat. I can usually eat an Egg McMuffin ok but it was the worst thing ever. I had gotten the hashbrowns with it and couldn't eat it either as it tasted like it was cooked in rancid oil and the iced tea tasted old...the place was dirty too..just not a good experience and thing is hubby and I can go to Subway and order a foot long on flat bread white egg white cheese and jalepenos for half of what it costs us at McDonalds. Then after the doctor's appointment which was also a disappointment..I get so aggravated going to this clinic as they always want me coming back every 6 months. I think they just want my money. I'm on medicare and my part to pay is always $95 per visit. And they don't do anything. I keep telling them it is allergies causing the sinus drainage which causes the cough..They did give me a new inhaler but I won't fill the prescription after I use this sample as have found the old fashioned Vick's inhalers over the counter do better and costs less ...that is if you can find them. Walmarts no longer carries them. Then we decided to save a trip later to the big town to do monthly shopping so went to Sam's and Walmarts..couldn't find the usual things we sometimes get so felt so wrung out over all the aggravation. With RA my energy level is not that swell so of course I was zonked when I got home. I did get lots of walking while there but that and my breathing test results are the only good thing. Going to stick with what makes me happy from now on. emoticon

I have seasonal allergies too. I use a Rexall sinus nasal pump "mist" , it's a twelve hour allergy. I usually only need 1 pump per nostril.

I sympathize with you. I have RA too. The allergies, disgusting high priced restaurant food, and yes, those doctors who want to run test after test and put you on all sorts of meds. really piss me off. My hubby and I lost our insurance and guess what? No more dr. appts. lol.

Allergies can make you feel tired as well as the allergy meds too. And being in pain takes a toll on your energy too.

Take care, and God bless you emoticon

no compromise!!

Don't have much to say today. Had nice visit yesterday and work up to frost and for May5th where I live that is unheard of. But strangely it did not hurt the garden. It must have been a flash one and was in and out in a flash.
Slept late this morning so missed church. Just going to enjoy life today. Eat leftovers and cross stitch some. Getting a walk in first.

visit from Miss Molly

Saturday, May 04, 2013

Miss Molly and her family came for a visit today. We so enjoyed having them. A good change from the usual daily routine. We walked around a lot outside and looked at the garden and all the fruit trees and flowers. It was so cold though so came in and she watched me do some cross stitching. She did some coloring with my water color pens in her coloring book and we played with her puppy "Lilwwy" (lily) and my dog Gracie. We ate a marinated grilled beef roast, roasted new potatoes, carrots and onions, steamed asparagus and fresh salad from our garden. We topped it off with a peach dump cake which is like a cobbler. It is Miss Molly's favorite. The asparagus and lettuce were fresh from the garden and the peaches were from last year's harvest from the freezer. We will have several meals from the roast this week. So won't have to do much cooking this next week. But we had a wonderful time. I think I give in to Miss Molly way too much. Her mom says I spoil her. She wanted to blow bubbles so I mixed some dish detergent with a little water and cut off a plastic water bottle and also took an old pair of eye glasses and broke out the lens and we used them to blow our bubbles. Now that really wasn't spoiling her...that was just having fun!!

I couldn't ask for a sweeter, more loving daughter in love and I feel so blest to have them all in my life.
