A little bit of heaven on earth

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

This is what our place looks like when it is sunny out. Today we are waiting on storms to come in. We are in line for all the weather than Oklahoma and Texas gets before us. But we do have a little heaven on earth. We so enjoy our place.

Gathering Wool

Monday, May 20, 2013

I spent a fun day playing mad scientist and dyed wool. I think I did 8 pots of dyeing. These are the colors I turned out with. It started out thinking I would just overdye some old faded jeans. They are my oldest baggiest one but comfortable. Well when I began to dye them, decided to throw in some wool to use all the dye. Well one thing led to another. O and my jeans didn't take the dye well..I used koolaid for some of it and Cushing dye for wool for other and the orange is Rit dye. Personally the koolaid works the best. I use citric acid or vinegar for a fixative but with koolaid it already has citric acid so no need to use a fixative. Now I have some new colors to hook my rugs. O and I save my wool lint for needle felting.

That sounds like so much fun and I would have never guessed that koolaid would be such a great dye!

Crafting

Sunday, May 19, 2013

People make time for the things they like to do in their lives. I make time now to walk. I enjoy my walks even on the days that my allergies act up due to privet hedge blooming (which is going on right now). I have found that it is really the only exercise I enjoy so I make time for it.

I'm an avid crafter though and always make time each day to work on something. It is my stress reliever and mental health cure. I have done some many different crafts over the years but as I've been aging, I've only been doing the things I enjoy the most. I have this thing about me that once I start something I have to finish it before starting something new so I have very few left over projects that need finishing. Right now I have a couple of new rugs I'm designing on paper and then keeping my hands busy in the evening hours cross stitching a small design for a pincushion. I own a large hand stitching yahoo group and each month we have a challenge theme and also a Stitch A-long..(SAL) The SAL this month is making a summer dress and our host is a lovely lady from Mexico. I've never done pattern designing before so this is a first for me. I host the SAL next month so have some work to do designing my pdf to go along with it...going to be a tea pot cozy with redwork design.

Well enough banter...Hope everyone has a blest Sunday!!

Agree with doing what you really want to as we get older. I have lots of sewing to do. Some orders to make, but I also put some of my time in for the GK. I like to make memories for them.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who keeps their hands busy so that they don't eat!

I used to cross stich, that was before glasses! I can't imagine having three pairs of glasses, computer, reading and close up! UGH!!

Great blog. . . have a great evening!

Hope you post a picture of the dress you once you are finished. I've download (several years ago) the directions for The One-Hour Dress which was very popular back in the day. Way back in the day! Haven't had the courage to try it yet though. Maybe I will this summer! emoticon

Strong willed

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Do you consider yourself strong? I may not be so strong in my body and things in life can beat you down but how you react is the solution. I'm a very strong willed person so therefore I stand firm in my beliefs and my actions. I may not be able to run a marathon but I can do something in the way of exercise each day. I may not have a thousand friends but the ones I have are true blue. My life's journey has made me strong in more ways than one.

Trip to Iris farm

Friday, May 17, 2013

We took a last minute trip to the north part of our state to the Ozark Mountains. I have a friend who has in iris farm and have been given iris from her from time to time. Iris as most know are my favorite flower and as we are about a week ahead of them weatherwise and mine were beginning to die, we decided to make the 5 hour trip up there. We had perfect weather going and visiting with them. We were both amazed at how many she had and how many colors...all colors of the rainbow. I picked out and bought a few. Then they followed us to the motel and took us out to eat at Salsa's. The food was terrific but OH MY could not believe how much they served. I could only eat about 1/3 of mine if that. I know if it had been 2 years ago, I could eaten it all. Hubby surprised me at how much he ate as he usually doesn't eat that much anymore either. Our friends practically cleaned their plates. But I was so proud of myself. I stopped eating when I felt full. And didn't overstuff and was able to sleep that night. I also got lots of walking in while at my friends' farm.

The trip home wasn't very fun!! We drove home in the rain and it took 6 hours driving home. But I'm very thankful for the rain as we got a much needed inch of rain and it seemed our garden had grown twice the size. We also came home to the rose bush in full bloom and my jackmani clematis blooming. O I do love spring!!!

Good for you on the dinner. It's strange isn't it when the change in our habits hits us and we realize how much (or badly) we used to eat!

Glad your trip was good (except for the rainy drive).

I hope you are having a good weekend!
