Miss Molly's big brother

Friday, May 24, 2013

Most here have heard me talk of Miss Molly. She is my youngest son's daughter. She is named for my mother and grandmother. She has a big brother who is our step grandson. We are so proud of him and so glad he is a part of our life along with his mom and Miss Molly. Johnny graduates tonight and then heads to aviation school on Monday. His father and grandfather were both pilots for American airlines so he is following in their footsteps. But he is also wanting to get a 2nd degree in engineering. He is smart enough and determined enough to do it though both are grueling fields to go into alone. Anyway this is a picture of my youngest son Sean, his wife (our daughter in love) Carmen, Miss Molly and Johnny. Just had to share a little of my family.

What a lovely family, and how wonderful that Johnny aspires to do these things! It seems like so many of the kids today don't want to do much of anything and it is refreshing and inspiring to see a young person who has goals and will work to meet them!

Life is short

Thursday, May 23, 2013

We need to live like there is no tomorrow but in a healthy way. Put people, especially family and friends before things. And remove those things from our lives that are not relevant or that bring us down. Even if it means no longer having friends that bring us down. Life is short. Do what you can to help others expecting nothing in return. And above all make time for yourself as well.

Bottle tree

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

I have been wanting a botttle tree for a few years now. Last year hubby cut down a large cedar tree as his sister and I wanted a larger bottom part with branches to set on our dining tables. She is putting butterflies on hers and I have owls on mine. But the top he saved for me a bottle tree for the yard. We tot it cemented in on Saturday and was set up enough and the rains are over so got my blue bottles out and put them on the tree. Don't think I drank all that wine. I didn't. In fact I drink very little wine and only on special occasions. But many years ago, I collected bottles to make into wind chimes and these were some that were given to me from different people. I have boxes of bottles in my lean-to shed. Going to start cleaning out the shed soon and will save a few to make a few more wind chimes and then getting rid of most. Will take to recycling center.

Thankfully we did not get the storms but about 3 inches of rain and it cleared out the privet hedge pollen for awhile so stayed outside this morning. Now will be a prisoner inside again until next rain or until the privet quits blooming.

A little bit of heaven on earth

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

This is what our place looks like when it is sunny out. Today we are waiting on storms to come in. We are in line for all the weather than Oklahoma and Texas gets before us. But we do have a little heaven on earth. We so enjoy our place.

Gathering Wool

Monday, May 20, 2013

I spent a fun day playing mad scientist and dyed wool. I think I did 8 pots of dyeing. These are the colors I turned out with. It started out thinking I would just overdye some old faded jeans. They are my oldest baggiest one but comfortable. Well when I began to dye them, decided to throw in some wool to use all the dye. Well one thing led to another. O and my jeans didn't take the dye well..I used koolaid for some of it and Cushing dye for wool for other and the orange is Rit dye. Personally the koolaid works the best. I use citric acid or vinegar for a fixative but with koolaid it already has citric acid so no need to use a fixative. Now I have some new colors to hook my rugs. O and I save my wool lint for needle felting.

That sounds like so much fun and I would have never guessed that koolaid would be such a great dye!
