Rain Rain and more rain. (I'm back)

Saturday, June 01, 2013

Well it has been a long 3 days. After the tornado hit our area, we were without power until just about an hour ago. I won't be here long as I have tons of emails to removed from my box. But no damage to our house. We did drive to town yesterday during the lull and got some metal fence posts and staked the 2 fruit trees up and are hoping it holds. The main power trunk line was down on the side of the main highway and it took the power company until yesterday evening late to get that pole and line replaced but our power was still out due to the tree down at the edge of our property. They did come out and inspected it yesterday but didn't get back to fix it until around noon today. When they got it repaired they had to go remove some more limbs on the line further on and then about an hour after they left, the power was back on.
We fared better than most by having a portable generator. We can get 11 hours of run time out of 5 gallons of gas. So we ran it during the day to keep the a/c and freezers going and then turned it off late at night. Today I felt so sorry for the pour power company men having to tackle the trees and underbrush with their chain saws and it pouring down rain. We have had constant rain all day today. The day of the tornado we got 5 inches total rain that day and another inch yesterday and then today we got about 4 inches. We are hoping the stakes hold the fruit trees as the ground is so saturated it is awful. Flash flooding has been occurring. We are staying home and away from it all and thankful we live on the side of a hill and thankful there wasn't more damage to our place.

Sounds like your area was hit pretty hard. Glad you are doing well with little damage to your property. Hubby just bought us a little generator to have on hand for emergencies.

So thankful you are OK. Fruit trees can be replaced if they have to be but people, no. Glad you had a generator too. Have a wonderful day!

Woo Hoo for getting your electric back! We were out 5 weeks in 2004 after hurricane Frances, and we're in the city (but an old part). It gets old after a while, but you do learn to be creative about some things, LOL!

Stay safe. I hope your weather improves tomorrow.

emoticon What a blessing that your electricity is back on!! Also it is good that you have a generator. We are in the same "place" in the winter...nor'easters, ice and other snowstorms often take out our power, too. It is a good time to be reminded of our dependence on the Lord. Blessings! Nellie

tornado!!!

Friday, May 31, 2013

I will be away from here for a few days due to tornado blowing thru. We are OK but trees down. No damage to the house but lost some fruit trees. Power line in front of our house is on the ground so no electricity. We are in a very rural area so may be last to get power restored. We have generator but it won't let me run computer so can only come here on my tablet. I will be back when power is restored.

Blessings and Cursings

Thursday, May 30, 2013

I volunteered at the gallery today and have been under thunderstorms all day with tornado watches and warmings. So today was a very slow day there. Very few stopped in so it is those days that give me time to think about things.

Why is it that some people seem to have really blest lives and others have cursings that follow them around like a dark cloud. I was thinking of an old friend from my school days. She was also a teacher and she and her sister owned an embroidery and cross stitch shop. She had married and her husband died young and she only had one daughter. Her daughter was her pride and joy. Her daughter was married and had 2 hcildren and then this past year she had another but had a terrible time in labor and she almost died. My friend was by her side the entire time. She barely recovered and just this week this daughter's husband got killed in an auto accident. It seems like it has poured curses in my friend's life.

Then I have another friend who seems to have been blest the moment she was born. And yes she complains for the small things bad that do happen at times. Strangely this friend is not as sweet a person as the other one who endures so much. So I'm thinking that the bad things we go through at times makes us better more caring people.

I feel I have been so blest myself. I have endured alot over the years and yet I have come out stronger for having done so. But I've never once felt I was cursed. I have just lived my life the best I know how and realizing that others have feelings and so I try to do what I can for others. When we go through bad times, it is better to see that there are others that are going through or have gone through much worse and be thankful for the small blessings we do have.

I always want to live on "Happy Street" but know that the bad things make me stronger and a better person.

We do not always understand why things happen, but I believe there is a plan and it is good and we need to accept that not all things are totally good or bad. The plan is for good and I do not know what the good of a death is but I have learned that my faith is strengthened by accepting the plan.

Good for you for living on Happy Street. I wish there were more people like you. I too feel very blessed in life and try to never take anything or anyone for granted. We don't know what tomorrow holds so I want to love the ones in my life today. I would much rather build someone up and make them feel good about themselves to ever hurt them and bring them down!
Keep on being kind and happy! It is the best feeling to have!

Happy Street is there for you wherever you are because you are a lemonade out of lemons type person. That is your blessing you know. Pity the people who can only see problems and never see how many blessings they have. Thank you for your post.

without the dark

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

I also wouldn't sleep well. I have found that I cannot sleep well with any kind of light. Lately we have been having a bright moon so it has not helped in my sleep habits. I wear a sleep mask at night but still have my restlessness. Also part has to do with being a woman and the hot flashes. And the RA aches don't help. Another thing that bothers my sleep is noise. Any type of noise keeps me awake or wakens me in the night. I know I'm not the only one with this problem. Also being hyperactive by nature has some to do with this as well. I do take a hot bath, and get to bed around 9 but then I usually read to slow my mind enough to get to sleep no later than 11. Not having a schedule I can sleep in but with longer days I'm waking earlier. I've found I really need at least 7 hours of sleep to function well the next day. It is a struggle but at least I'm in a nightly routine.

7 hours a night is SO important. Just ask my DH...I'm not nearly so grumpy if I get my sleepy in every night. He can function quite well on 5 or 6, and I used to, but not anymore!

Mint

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

For some reason I tried to upload this photo of our herb bed and wrong photo came up. This is our herb bed with just mint, garlic, sage and rosemary. We had our lettuce planted at the end. Our garlic is planted in with the mint..not a plan but the mint spreads. The rosemary is on the far left side and the sage is between the mint and rosemary. This little bed is my pet project and love working in it. I weeded it a lot this spring until the mint took it over and now I can sit back. I'm thinking of drying the mint to use for tea in the winter.

Have you grown the chocolate mint? It is great! Had a start of it one summer, but it isn't here now. Like the orange and lemon mint, too. Had hyssop one summer, too, but it is gone now. Can't seem to keep what I like. I have a small patch prepared for some mint this summer. Need DH to do one more tilling and it will be ready for my mint.
