I received an email that the training at the YMCA was canceled. There really wasn't much of anything going on with the weather. On Friday, we had sleet for a couple of hours, but traffic was still flowing OK. I only taught two classes at the Y because they closed early at 1:00 PM. Everything scheduled for Friday was pretty much canceled. There was to be a St. Jude's Marathon in downtown Memphis early this morning. It was canceled. Today the sun came out around 10:00 AM and the ice started melting. The temperature was still only in the 20's but the ice melted where the sun was shining. Our driveway thawed out, and we were able to bring the vehicles up to the house.
Tonight my two sons and I went to the Grizzlies basketball game in downtown Memphis, and the 40 miles of road that we traveled were just fine. More bad weather is predicted for some time in the early morning hours, so we are still parked at the bottom of the hill. I have two classes tomorrow at the YMCA, so I don't know if they will run or be canceled. I will have to wait and see.
I think why everyone is ''freaking out" is because we had a severe ice storm back in 1994 where EVERYONE lost power. We were without power for 4 days, and others were without power for TWO WEEKS! The schools were closed for days, and the streets were icy for days. This one coming through was predicted to be similar to that one, but fortunately, it did NOT happen! Since 1994, new improvements were made to our power lines so that they did not fall down due to being iced over. PLUS the road conditions are being handled better, and there are more cars on the road to pack down the ice.
Anyway, for now things are looking OK, and we will have to see what tomorrow brings.
I hope you are in an area that is not getting snow or ice.
