My Sweet Sister

Saturday, December 20, 2014

On Thursday my Sister was placed with our Dad. And what a blessing. She had expressed a desire to be near the folks. When i talked to the cemetery they suggested that her ashes could be placed in the mausoleum with our father. So that is what we did - they were always so close.
Here is a picture taken when she was in High School.

I was not able to go down for the ceremony, but a dear friend Tom carried Linda. He has been a special dear friend in recent years and cared for Linda during her last days.

Linda had not told me about the cancer until October - so i really did not have very much time to process. So now it just seems surreal - and i so miss her emails. First thing in the mornings i would check for her last note from the evening before and then we would email a dozen times a day.

But I know that she is with the folks and my son, Greg, who left us last year. And soon i will be joining them - and what a day of celebration that will be!!!

What I Can Where I Am Today - Tuesday, December 9, 2014

Tuesday, December 09, 2014

"He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age."
Romans 4:15

Yesterday I was talking to a friend about now being officially "old" - well, actually i have been for a couple of years now. And loving every moment that God gives me!!

I do have blood pressure that gets a bit high at times, legs that complain a lot, and eyes that have a time reading labels now. I really do think that companies are using smaller fonts now so we can't read them. But, that is ok - i have a good magnifying glass.

The above Bible verse was in my daily devotional from The Presidential Prayer Team with this quote from President Theodore Roosevelt, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are"

So that is just what i am doing!! I may not follow the exercises precisely but i do what i can, I may not have the latest equipment but found that a couple of soup cans work great for my dumbbells (probably not as heavy as they should be, but what the hey) and I do this right where i am - here in Pendleton, Oregon!!

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 - Day 18

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Usually meet with a couple of friends on Tuesday for Bible study, but we have canceled for today. Just too cold and Elaine was at the Warming Station last night - so i bet she is now sleeping.

So this morning am going to bake bread - love my bread for toast. Do not bake in the summer - just too warm. So will be a treat today. Want to bake cookies too but am low on sugar - and probably will not get to the grocery store for a couple more days. But i think we have everything else that we need - and Schwans comes tomorrow. We love there veggies - their corn tastes so fresh. And i keep their frozen chicken breasts on hand -

My Sister had an appointment at the Infusion Center this morning and probably needed blood. Only heard from her briefly this morning as she was heading out.

I had a good day yesterday - got in more exercise than i had planned - mostly just some deep cleaning so i can get out Christmas!! This year i am getting out all of my decorations - don't have so many but will be fun to just to thru all of them.

Oh, home made bread sounds good. DH has been threatening about making some. . . .
I've already put on 2 pounds since he retired!
I'm trying to keep him out of the kitchen!!!

November 17, Day 17

Monday, November 17, 2014

Had a good, active day.

This morning i cleaned off the top of the hutch in the dining area - removed the dishes and glass ware and moved the hutch out so i could clean under and behind it. Had been a while - now need to clean out the drawers.

Then this afternoon met with the knitters at the Buckin' Bean - and started a cap to donate to the Warming Center. It is open for the homeless when the temperature is below freezing.

Now am going to watch more of my current series - The Blacklist - and knit more on the cap i started.

Hope everyone is keeping warm!!

November 15, 2014 - Day 15

Saturday, November 15, 2014

I had planned to blog each day - but have not. But have been counting the days. And have done at least 10 minutes of exercise or stretching each day - just need to get it blogged and on the tracker. Am determined to do the 100 days and then to just keep counting. Just read a blog about a Mother and Daughter who did the 100 days and lost 74 pounds together.

My goal is not the weight loss - but am hoping that may be a bonus. My goal is to strengthen my legs - that seem to be giving out. Sometimes it is hard to just walk. But am learning that when i even just move 10 minutes a few times each day - and drink my water (this is the one challenge that is so difficult for me) that i do so much better.

So yesterday i cleared off the top shelf of a hutch that is in the living room - it holds part of my Son's coffee cup collection.

And now i am ready to start decorating for Christmas. Usually it is about New Years Day that i am ready - don't know why i am so in the mood right now - but am going to take advantage. We will probably not have a tree - there is just no room in our living room. We have a sofa, a love seat, and a recliner - am thinking about getting rid of one of them. Need to talk to Geoff about which one - probably the love seat.

We are freezing here in Pendleton - had snow Thursday - and now the temp just keeps dropping. This morning it is 6 degrees - and looks like we will be COLD until sometime next week. So i am just staying in - i think we have all we need for a few days - like bread, milk, coffee and, of course, peanut butter. Can't live without that staple!!

I did have fun yesterday watching the squirrels running along the branches of the trees - knocking off the snow. Looks like they were looking for their stashes of nuts.
