Says the temp is 93 but feels much warmer. And my sister in Medford says they are predicting another thunder storm there. Have not heard if it did happen.

This morning i stopped at the newspaper office to update my account - so i will get the newspaper again. The bank account they had on file has expired. Then to the club for a short walk on the treadmill before heading to WalMart for a few things.

And there added a lot of steps as i trapesed around the store looking for things. I tell you, they keep moving things and put them in the "darndest" places. And of course you can't find a clerk when you need one. Except i must say, they are helpful when you do find one.

Then a short nap this afternoon - and am now fixing grilled chicken and a veggie for dinner. yumm ymm!!

Yes the thunderstorms did happen. A number of new fires due to lightning. I hope your sister is safe.

We're about 70 miles from Medford and had a lightning strike & fire start just down the road from us. I had dropped off my car in GPass for a tune up and so had caught a ride home with DH. He commutes 70 miles a day to GPass on his motorcycle. When we left GPass the sky looked awesome but frightening! Big dark clouds with brilliant sun rays peeking through . . . but I knew it meant we were probably going to be riding into rain. Well, thankfully it held off until we had parked in front of our house and I was getting off . . . then the bottom dropped out of that cloud. Everything had a good soak and the temps dropped to the low 50's . . . .a great night for sleeping!

Elaine and her husband, Dave, have been at his Mother's all week - in Baker City. So no Bible study with her on Tuesday. emoticon Had not realized how much i need that time with her and in our Bible study. Seems to just set my mood for the seek.

So have not gotten much accomplished - until today. Had a good talk with myself - time to get off your duff and MOVE. So did so this morning. Outside - watered, washed down the patio, weeded and washed down the sliding glass door and the outside of the dining area window. And also visited with a couple of neighbors. emoticon

Susie has just retired from 27 years at Penneys - and she is truly enjoying her free time. Jo also has a membership at the 24 hour fitness club so we encouraged each other to get there more often. It is just too easy to find an excuse for not going.

Time for a cup of coffee and to watch an episode of my series - Drop Dead Diva - light and funny - just what i need right now while i do some knitting.

Oh, my, how the days just scoot by! Been a very warm summer but looks like it may cool down some.

Meeting Elaine this morning for our coffee at the DoNut Shop and our study in Revelation! Then to WalMart for a new necessities.

Here is my to-do list for today - but first a little note. One time i was telling my sister about my to-do list and typed my "do-do" list. Now she teases me about my "do-do" list - but sometimes it just feels that way. Things that really need to be done but i just keep putting off - I am quite the procrastinator!!

Anyway, here is my list for today:

WalMart for a few things,
Clean off the patio - one of those that i just keep putting off - but, hey, it is too hot!!
To the club - had not been in a while, but finally went yesterday.
Knitting group this evening - that will be my reward after i do the other things.

NOTE:
Got my "do-do: list done yesterday - now for today's list.

Love the DO DO list . . .

I've been do-doing too much. By necessity, I've been spending to much time away from home for my liking.

Today's Focus

Thursday, July 03, 2014

I have had a cough and a cold for about 2 weeks and i am done with it!! Finally feeling much better and did not wake coughing during the night.

So my 3 goals for today are:

Laundry - a couple of loads - DONE - only had one load to do.

Dr. appointment to have by BP meds checked. - DONE - went well except my BP is elevated, so she is changing my meds and ordered an antibiotic for the cough. And i go back in a couple of weeks.

Plant the impatiens that are looking so forlorn in their little pots. - the plants will have to wait until it cools off later this evening - just too warm out there right now.

"Under the Weather"

Monday, June 23, 2014

This past week i used the expression "under the weather" a couple of times and just got to wondering where this phrase came from. Found this explanation - among a few others - at urbandictionary.com.

under the weather
During the days when ships were powered by sail, the captains log documented everything that happended during the day. As sickness could spread rapidly on a ship, there were often times where the number of sailers that were ill exceeded the space provided in the log to record their names. During these times, the excess names of the sick were recorded in the next column, which was reserved for the weather conditions of the day. Thus, it was not unusual for an ill sailor to be listed "under the weather".

How many other expressions do we use daily and never stop and wonder where they came from??
And isn't it amazing the things we can learn on the internet!!
