A new definition of maintenance.
Maintenance is defined as the process of maintaining or preserving someone or something, or the state of being maintained. We often think of that as maintaining the weight we've lost. For many that is true, but for some of us that is very diffic... Read more
Ups and downs.
A couple of days ago I was at the lowest I've been in quite a while. Not my old goal weight, but still lower than I have been. I have not changed how I eat and I'm still moving, but today I'm up 5 lbs. This is when I get frustrated!
I have ... Read more
Another page from my devotional was Avoid Comparisons. This resonated with me due to the nature of our society. Everywhere we look we see young, thin, and beautiful women. Magazines, billboards, maybe at the gym, or in the car next to us. We for... Read more
Yesterday's devotional was about new beginnings. It made me think that it really is true, that everyday is a new beginning. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is never promised, but today is a day of new beginnings.
Every morning we have choice... Read more
Things are moving!
I am heading out for a nice trail run before the expected snowstorm arrives. At least eight miles and maybe ten, if my running partner wants.
I am moving the same amount, but I went back to a habit I had when I lost my weight in 2011. I sto... Read more
A lesson from my dog.
I love the way my dog looks at me. It dawned on me that we should take a lesson from our dogs, or other pets.
Dog love us unconditionally. They don't care how we look, what the scale says, if we had a cheat day, etc. (However, they really l... Read more
Glory days past and maybe the present?!
I call 2014 my glory year of running. I ran 12 races in 12 months, 7 half marathons, five 10k's, and three 5k's. I achieved several age awards and felt like I was on top of my game.
Three years later things are a bit different. Hypothyroid... Read more
Ups and downs of "maintenance."
The ups is it was a beautiful day for a 10k. It was windy, hilly, but an awesome day for a 10k. I was very pleased with my time of 1:09 for an average of 11 minute miles, especially since I haven't "really" ran for about a month. However, it ma... Read more
Two of my maintainer friends asked if I was getting enough sleep. My fitbit says that I'm not. I rarely have gotten 7 hours the past couple of weeks.
We had a pretty big happening last week that is not helping. Nothing is proven, but we do... Read more
So I had a great run on Tuesday and a swollen ankle on Wednesday. Not bad, but some swelling and it was red. So another week off from running. Oh, well. I can still run and my 10k will be slow, but at least I can run.
I am trying to bump u... Read more
I'm back to running.
It's been two weeks since I've been running and boy could I tell. It took a while to get into the groove, but I did. It felt great!!!
I have a 10k on March 4th. This may not be my best race and it will be far from my fastest, but I'll be t... Read more
I knew I shouldn't do it! I told myself not to. With it being "that time of the month," having cellulitis, and having eaten out (MSG's) I knew it wouldn't be good. Wow, that is all I can say, WOW! I haven't seen that number in almost six years.... Read more
I took my fourth dose of meds at lunch with some ibuprofen. My foot still looks bad, but it feels better. I did use crutches starting around 10 AM, but I can stand on my foot without too much discomfort. Ah, the wonders of medicine.

Started as a blister and it blew up.
Well, my little blister blew up into something more. I should say my foot blew up, aka. swelled up.
It started yesterday. It was pretty infected last night. I soaked it in Epsom salts this morning and it felt a little better.
I got my walk i... Read more

First strong and then being a baby!
I have discovered, at least for me, that trail running is much more challenging than street running. I can run 10 miles on the street and finish thinking, "That was nice." Yesterday I ran 10.75 miles in mud, on some frozen ground, in the wind, a... Read more
