This new extension of the Metroparks has been a grass roots effort in that the community has been involved in helping preserve and protect the woods located in the middle of a very urban landscape.
Founded in 1997, our volunteer-run, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization has focused on the creation of the West Creek Preserve and Greenway, a 500-acre natural park and regional recreational trail network. With the support of the community, we have successfully preserved over 350 acres for conservation for the public benefit. Other initiatives include water quality improvement, environmental education, and natural resource protection.
West Creek is a 9-mile creek flowing through the cities of Parma, Seven Hills, Brooklyn Heights and Independence.
The entrance to the park is on (West) Ridgewood Drive, approximately 1/2 mile west of Broadview Road, between Broadview and State Roads.

Excited to hear that they are making efforts to exend the trail. I grew up in the area also. State Road Park has a great walking path also - some hills that really get the heart pumping.
There's a wide cinder path on some of it. But, I hiked for like 30 min before I got to it.
aren't they going to put an asphalt trail through the middle of it and build a center. how natural is that?
its a beautiful piece of land, but unfortunately is not open to more active user groups. i sat in on several meetings during the planning stages and have been very disappointed in the metro parks close mindedness.

I grew up playing in these woods, it's like magic. When I heard they were preserving the area and making it a park, I was thrilled! It takes you to another world, I highly recommend this park!
