Like Kathryn Abby Hanna Park south of the St. Johns River, Huguenot Memorial Park was designated a Great Florida Birding Trail site by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission because of the outstanding habitat and the abundance of various kinds of birds. The park includes a critical nesting area for terns and shorebirds, and often hosts rarities like bar-tailed godwits. Birders are likely to spot gannets, loons, and sea ducks.
The park also has the benefit of being located near many of the area's significant points of interest, including Fort Clinch State Park, the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve, Mayport Naval Base, and the Jacksonville Zoo.
Admission fee: $ .50 per person (6 and older)
Huguenot Memorial Park is open daily 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., April - October and 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., November - March.

Took a vacation day Friday and DH and I went and just had a relaxing day on the beach togetther. This was a great place, very relaxing and convenient being able to drive on the beach.
When I first moved to the Jacksonville area Huguenot quickly became one of my favorite places to go. Being able to actually drive on to the beach was a big plus. Having to haul stuff over dunes makes it seem that you no sooner get the trunk emptied and it is time to pack up and go - NOT at Huguenot though. Being aware of the tides allows you to pull right out to your favorite area and make adjustments as the tide changes. The price is certainly reasonable enough. They have added/renovated a snack bar area that is quite nice with the usual beach snacks. The ONLY reason I would not recommend Huguenot is to keep it a secret for as long as possible although it would appear that hundreds of people already know about it.
