Ditto to all of the above comments. I train there race season because of the hills and distance. We drive 45 minutes on Saturday morning just to jog the hill. For an extra challenge, we did the 5 mile base and then climbed the mtn. Great time was had by all. By all means visit.
Great place for a walk ... we park by the Grist mill and go around the lake past the covered bridge. It is so much fun with the dog
Stone Mountain Park offers a variety of places to walk, or run or jog.The walking never gets boring there. A great place, for the senior citizens to walk each day.
This is a GREAT place to get some exercise. Even early in the morning on weekends (and I am sure during the week) you will find TONS of friendly people biking, hiking, running, walking etc. Not to mention the great calf workout from walking up the rock! All the trails around the mountain and up the mountain are great overall workouts.
Many local teams train here weekly, and new ones are forming all the time. You will find individuals, 3 Day Breast Cancer Training Teams, 2 Day Breast Cancer Teams, etc., to name a few...
Its a very pedestrian and biker friendly enviroment, and, if you don't want to pay to drive in the park, walk or bike in from the side gate in the actual village of Stone Mountain.
They have really done a great job of keeping the park safe, clean and enjoyable. Its an asset to our area, and I strongly encourage everyone to get out there and enjoy the great "free" trails, etc. (And of course, come back for the laser show, too!)
