Want to participate in one of the original sports of the modern Olympics? Greater Dayton Rowing Association has the deal for you! A whole body workout, pleasant scenery and usually convivial comrades (OK, some of us are the serious sort...our blood runs river water). GDRA is an area-wde club of rowing enthusiasts....from novice to expert, high school to retirees. Our boathouse is on Island MetroPark in the Great Miami River, just north of downtown Dayton. The entire island is a beautifully maintained park, operated by Five Rivers MetroParks.
The boathouse was built in 1995 and provides basic boat storage for GDRA's Adult and Junior programs and for UD's collegiate program. Storage was expanded with the addition of a fenced boatyard and roofed area in 2003.
We have 130 feet of rowing docks. Most of the dock comes out of the water on the weekend before Thanksgiving and goes back in around March 1. You don't have to own equipment, your dues help to maintain...and allow you to use...club-owned boats and oars.
Learn-to row classes are offered frequently, check the web site for details.
