- Submitted by JAZZYJAS - 4 Comments

Resource Details Below

Located just across the river from Downtown Washington D.C. is a great multi-use recreation trail. Nearly 18 miles long, the Mount Vernon Trail follows the Potomac's Virginia shoreline from Theodore Roosevelt Island (near Rossyln, Va) to George Washington's Estate located at Mount Vernon.

Comments From Other Members:

I took a bus down to Mt. Vernon and then walked back to Rosslyn. There were a TON of bikers and runners out when I went. I think I'll try again in the late fall, when it's less crowded.

My husband and I biked the trail from the Mount Vernon Estate to Old Town Alexandria (about 18 miles roundtrip). It was absolutely breathtaking!

WOW , Let's get a group together for a walk day. We could walk one way and have a pinic and then we could get couple of non walkers to pick us up and take us back tot he cars. Then as the summer goes we could work on a rounfd trip? Anyone interested?

The Mount Vernon trail is a great bicycle, walking, jogging, and running trail. Beautiful and scenic. Be careful lots of people on bikes, running, walking, etc. The trail gets extremely crowded in the summer during the weekends. Enjoy the trail.

Chef Meg's Cheesy Grilled Banana Peppers
Submitted By: CHEF_MEG

Cheese. Bacon. Tomatoes. Yum!
Chef Meg finds a slightly more sophisticated version of the hot pepper poppers found on appetizer menus everywhere. Her version uses mild banana peppers, creamy Gouda cheese, a bit of bacon for a smoky richness, and tomatoes to offer a bit of freshness. She grills them to add another layer of flavor to the dish.

Serve these as an appetizer or unexpected side dish at your next barbecue!

Chef Meg uses panko, or Japanese breadcrumbs in this recipe. You can substitute whatever breadcrumbs you have on hand. Full Recipe
