I am in LOVE with Lifetime Fitness in North Austin. It has become my home away from home. If I'm not at home or work, then that is most likely where you will find me. I can have a 30 minute workout and be there for 2 hours with the sauna and cafe and overall atmosphere.
It is the first gym I have belonged to that I don't have the urge to "leave" the moment I get there. It doesn't feel like a gym if that makes any sense.
And if you are looking for a trainer, Ty is the best and Nate is great too!!

I was a member for 3 years. All the equipment is great - there's so much you never have to wait for a free bike or treadmill, anything. The swimming was pretty decent too.
The thing I hated about the club is that they have these groups - I think they are called Team Fitness, Team Weightloss, etc. - sort of like boot camps. I am a morning exerciser and I do that because I hate all the chitter chatter that goes on during any other time of the day. I like to do my workout and get on with my day. There were groups that met at 6 a.m. and their coaches always tried to motivate them - by yelling and getting them to yell back! I just couldn't take it anymore. not too mention that there would be signs all over the equipment about how you couldn't use it on certain days because it was reserved for Team Weightloss or what not. The coach people were nice and if I wanted to cut in, they'd let me, but the group members then felt resentful because they are paying extra for their session. One time I was swimming laps in the leisure pool (the water is warmer) and they jogged as I swam my laps! Right across my laps!
When I quit, I told them that was one of the reasons. If they are going to have to do the group thing (I think they make most of their money that way - it's expensive), then they need to put them in another room.
I've tried the North Austin Y - that was before LifeTime and you'd have to wait for a treadmill in the mornings. I'm currently just walking until I get my strength back (I've been sick) and using a tiny gym at work. I will pay for a health club - maybe 24 Hour Fitness next, but I am very picky.
