Urban Active Gym in Norwood/Hyde Park. This is a pretty nice gym in the area and has racquetball courts (2) an indoor lap pool and plenty of classes.
Comments From Other Members:
I look at it this way: If I won't go outside and walk around the block for a few minutes, and lift some simple weights inside *on a consistent basis* then I am not ready for a membership.
I am using it as a reward, and even then there are so many to look at, screen etc. For now, I do my workouts at home and outside, no matter if its cold out.

I'm thinking about going to Everytime Fitness in Mt. Lookout... I called them yesterday and they'll give you a free week to try it out and that there are 300 members but it's not too crowded...
anyone belong there?

I think the Urban Active clubs are overrated. Any I have went to were not maintained, dirty, and majority of staff not very outgoing and friendly. Now they've cancelled group fit classes and day care at the Western Hills club. I'll continue my membership to Snap Fitness on Rybolt Rd. in Green Twp. They are extremely freindly and have well trained personnel to answer questions and get you started. Free personal training session was great! Cristen is outstanding! Try it you'll like it!
Then new one in Kenwood is still in progress but nice so far. The cardio cinema, cardio and strength training is complete all there and the pool, kid area, class area, etc to come. Machines are new. Staff is friendly.
The closest UA to me is Erlanger and it's a dump. I go there only for the classes. Bellevue and Florence are much newer and nicer. My membership allows me to visit any location so I hit those locations for the pool and cardio machines. The instructors have all been great no matter what location. My take is that the company spends a lot of money on new locations, but invests little or nothing on upkeep. Even Hyde Park is starting to get a bit shabby with broken cardio machines, etc. Haven't tried other clubs so I have no comparison. UA works because there are several locations with class schedules I can fit around my busy life.
I belong to the UA on Colerain, it's OK, but pretty crowded much of the time that I'm able to use it (after work), and the weight machines are pretty dominated by testosterone/body building crowd. The equipment is not kept up really well, lots of the ellipticals and treadmills have problems, many are under repair when I'm there. I'm disappointed in the minimal training package we felt we had to sign up for to know how to use the equipment, he doesn't have us do any kind of a log, he just walks us through the motions on the machines once a month.
