New Feature: Calorie Ranges Based on Fitness TrackFrom Coach Jen:
We wanted to let you know about some changes to the calorie and fitness tracking. A few things to keep in mind:
1. These changes are TOTALLY optional to current members. So if you like the way things work now, you don't have to change anything.
2. Change is never easy, so we ask that you keep an open mind when reading the blog below and deciding whether or not this is something that might interest you.
3. If you have feedback or questions on these changes, please leave them in the blog where our staff will be monitoring comments.
(Note that all new members who create SparkPeople accounts after today (7/9/13) will be in this program by default and cannot switch out of it.
For existing members, switching to this new method of tracking is completely optional. However, if you do make the switch, you will not be able to switch back later.
Read through the blog link below thoroughly to understand how it works before editing your settings.
ASPIRE & INSPIRE NEWSLETTER, 3RD EDITIONASPIRE & INSPIRE NEWSLETTER, 3RD EDITION
Editor, IZZYBEBOP (Susan)
Greetings A&I Team Members,
Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Aspire & Inspire Newsletter and the first one for 2013! We hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season, and wish all of you a Happy New Year with happiness, prosperity and success in all areas of your life!
This newsletter is quite long as we have a lot to share with you.
First, we have some sad news to share. Some of you, especially those who are new, may not know that we lost a Team Member, WINNINGBATTLE (Aithley), on November 27. Here is a link to the blog her brother posted:
Her brother has made two other blog posts as well.
We have a post in her honor if you would like to leave a message:
Loss of a Team Member ... WINNINGBATTLE (Aithley)
WE HAVE A NEW FORUM POST: “News/Support of SP/Team Members, Family/Friends”
After the recent passing of Aithley (WINNINGBATTLE), some of us may not have known if not for someone posting it. We thought this would be a good place for you to let us know of any death, illness, etc. of team members, your personal SP Friends, and your own family and friends.
We ask that you ONLY POST your news here and NOT POST A REPLY, but rather send a goody or message on their page to either the person who made the post or the person they are posting about (if they are a SP member). If you are posting something about a SP member, and you would like to, please include a link to their page.
We also have a new FORUM TOPIC: “Health, Nutrition, Fitness Tips & Recipes”
Chat with us in “The Chat Room” when you can.
AND NOW TO THE LATEST NEWS FROM OUR MEMBERS … (a link to each members’ page is below their post so you can visit their page to leave a comment and/or goodie if you would like to)
BARBIE176 (Barbara) posted on 11/23/12: “This would be a great place for me to share my news as I know several of my teammates have heard me discussing my granddaughter over the past two years. She had left her Mom's home just after turning 18 and lived in the same area as I live for the past two years. She moved back to her Mom's at the beginning of November 2012. While her latest boyfriend moved with her, which is not necessarily a good thing, she quickly got employed down there. She's been working just over a week at a jewelry store kiosk in one of the malls. I am very proud of her that she sought and found a job so quickly. Now she just needs to lose the boyfriend or he needs to get off his behind and find employment too.
My other news is about my husband. He had a total shoulder replacement two years ago. In about August of this year (2012) he started having problems again. We went to the surgeon and the X-rays and CT scans are inconclusive as to the cause. He was given three options...
OPTION 1 was 4-6 weeks of physical therapy which he just finished 4 weeks of. The end result of that was better range of motion and more strength, but still the pain is there.
OPTION 2 was exploratory surgery to find out what was going on. He has that scheduled for Wednesday, November 28th. We hope they will be able to remove the pieces of cement or whatever that is showing up on the X-rays and CT scan and possibly repair the socket if that is what the problem is. We are praying this is successful and the end of his problems.
OPTION 3 is a longer surgery with a longer recovery in which they will repair or replace the socket. Not sure what all this entails, but we are praying we don't have to find out.”
DSCHAMBERS (Debbie) posted on 12/6/12: “I thought that would let all of you know what is going on in my life at this time. The good news is that I have reached another goal this week. I am now down to 227lbs. I have reached a loss this year of 25lbs. I still have a goal of another 4lbs to go by Jan 1st.
I have three family members who could use prayers, positive thoughts. My brother-in-law is in Stage 4 lymphoma. My niece is also in Stage 4 melanoma (spread to the lymph nodes). My nephew is suffering from depression. All thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.”
JUSTLLAMA (Shannon) posted on 12/12/12: “I'm up to 40 pounds lost. :)”
IZZYBEBOP (Susan) posted on 12/5/12: “Lorelai was born on October 26, 2012. She is now 5-1/2 weeks old and is just a little tike. Her legs are a little over 3". All along, we had thought we'd get a different one...Abby Rose...but she had changed so much and Lorelai simply stole our hearts. Some Blue Heelers have more pointed noses, and we wanted one with a broad round face, large nose and chest, and Lorelai has all of that and more. We had a 3 hour trip home, her sleeping in my lap all the way with just one potty stop.”
You can view two video and photo blogs here:
Susan’s other news is that her step-mother passed away on December 16 2012 at the age of 90. She grew up in Wyoming, parents divorced, and her dad (who passed away in 1985) married Betty in 1972. She was a school teacher for many years, and her students still remembered her when they saw her.
“She was more than my step-mother; she was my other mother, friend and confidant for 40 years. She lived in Wyoming, where I grew up, and I lived in Oklahoma. Every summer, we kids would go to visit and I took to her immediately. After my dad passed away in 1985, we took the kids up there almost every summer. My DD even went up there with a friend during the summer before she started college. After the kids were grown, DH & I took almost every summer vacation up there.”
NEW MEMBERS: We have FOURTEEN new members who have joined us since the last newsletter! We’re not up to 928 members! If you haven’t welcomed them to the team yet, feel free to do so.

And now to the latest news from our members …
ZACEVETOB (Jessica) posted: “Preparation and hospital tests to find out what is causing my pain. Results known at a later date.
8th and 15th October - celebrated birthdays for my 2 youngest children; DS turning 5, and DD turning 6.
October 25th was my year spark anniversary; hard to believe I have been here a whole year, though I had many ups and downs with my weight this year.
Visa news, well not much of a news, but there is a minimal time frame we have been given which is next year (2013) February – April. Mind you it’s minimal so it can be longer.”
WINNINGBATTLE (Aithley) posted: “Joined SparkPeople on 19th of October. and have been going strong since. My first weigh in was successful with loosing 1 pound and 7 inches.
Is competing with 5K walk your way program. At the end of October, I will finish with week 2. This has been going great.
My older brother Adrian got engaged this month. So thrilled for him, as this girl he is marrying is the only girlfriend he has had. They started going out in primary school and have been together like forever. It’s about time they get married; they are both 30.
From the 4th November to 16th December, I will be away in Cape Town, South Africa. For work, I am a registered travel nurses so 2 -3 times in a year I go abroad to unfortunate countries and 3rd world countries to help out, as they are usually short staff and they always need the extra hand. This time I will be working in one of the AIDS centers in Cape Town. This will be an interesting 6 weeks for me :)”
LITTLERCATHY (Cathy) posted: “My broken leg is getting better every week. It's getting stronger all the time. I've started a streak of exercising again. I've done 3 weeks of exercising twice a week. I'm not going to break any records but it's a start. I'm hoping to increase to 3 days a week soon.
One of our members, MAKULEWAHINE, was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago. She has been a friend of mine almost since I joined SP. She had a lumpectomy and sentinel cell biopsy. Thankfully the tumor was slow growing and non-aggressive. She didn't have to do chemo or radiation but is on hormone therapy for 5 years. She's still tired but has been biking and running as much as she can.”
I’m also including a link to MAKULEWAHINE’s page if you would like to offer her well wishes on behalf of the Aspire & Inspire team.
TUPPENCE03 (Linda) posted: “I would like to thank all my friends here for their best wishes earlier this year when I had my shoulder surgery, October and now November I am almost pain free, without painkillers and also I am beginning to walk again.”
NEW MEMBERS: We’ve had ten new members join. If you haven’t welcomed them to the team, feel free to do so.
We’d love to hear from you for our next newsletter, which will be published sometime after the first of the year. Post your news in the NEWS FOR THE A&I NEWSLETTER, 3RD EDITION link:
Thank you from your co-leaders,
Barbara, Cathy, Debbie, Donna, Sheila & Susan

BSG Challenge Coordinator for NOVEMBER, 2012!
I will be re-starting our newsletter. My idea is for members to post things happening in their life that you would like to share and include that in the newsletter. It can be anything from weight loss, fitness achievements to what's going on in your personal life (good, sad, bad, anything you want to share). Depending on how many posts are made will determine whether it's a monthly one or less often.
I won't include information about the BSG challenge or birthdays/anniversaries since Sheila already sends a team e-mail about that.
SO, if you have some news you'd like to share for a newsletter, simply post it here. Once I have enough posts (at least five), then I'll make a new post for the next newsletter.
