The coach in me cringes at what I see a lot of those out running doing. They are wound as tight as the spring on the screen door. Arms are held locked at the elbow, fists clenched and held rigidly in front of the chest with the hands almost at shoulder height. Added to the rigid arm carriage is an upper body rotation in an ... Most of the information I read for new runners is to walk a certain amount of time and then run a certain amount of time. Is there an app to keep up with these times? Something that will warn me when it's time to switch up? I hate trying to keep up with it on my fitbit! Thanks! Wed, 4 May 2016 08:44:01 EST Weights? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38926697 So right now I just started incorporating weights into my workout routines. At the moment, I am using 5 lb weights dumbbells. But here's the thing: the only other set of dumbbells I have are 12 lbs. So would it be wise of me to upgrade directly to 12 lbs after I grow strong enough with the 5lb ones? Or should purchase a 7-10 lb set for in between?

Thanks a bunch!

-J Tue, 3 May 2016 22:34:57 EST How do you spice up your exercise routine? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38926573 Sometimes the smallest changes make a difference, like new workout gear, new music, etc. For you personally, what are the little things that inspire you or get you motivated to workout? Becasue of this, I haven't done as much purposeful cardio (i.e., rowing machine, riding my bike, etc.) as I'd like to do. Today, I probably walked/hiked a little over 7 miles. When I got finished for the day, I decided I go ride my bike for 30 minutes, maybe a little longer. As I went to get on my bike, I felt my calf muscle in my left leg turn. I have been adding my 45 minutes of swimming directly into Sparkpeople. It as been around 850 cal When I let Runkeeper add it was 325. I guess the difference makes me wonder how to best manage my deficit for the day.

I have to say the lower number seems more realistic. I swim nonstop but at a moderate pace.
