I cook almost all of my own food, and I don't use measurements, so I don't know how to figure out calories. For instance, I never use the same recipe for veggie soup, because it all depends on what I have around the house, and the size of the soup is determined by how much I have of each thing and what needs to be used up. Also I sometimes eat half a pot, then add more things to it, so that throws it off. I guess I could start measuring what I put into the pot, but that is such a pain and do... Wed, 23 Nov 2016 08:09:24 EST Keep portions-even of veggies--small Many years ago, a dietician told me not to be in the habit of having a huge bowl of anything, regardless of calorie count. Tue, 11 Oct 2016 12:49:17 EST Difficulty tracking homemade meals In an effort to lose weight, tracking meals and the nutrients/calories, etc of them, is an important step in my opinion. It keeps you accountable. Where I get stuck is trying to do this for meals I make at home. Some are easy to track, if for example, you have chicken, veggies, potatoes, the ingredients are easy to separate and track. It's more difficult if I make a dinner meal where there are multiple ingredients. For example, if I make a soup, I don't know what to count for this as the pot ... I am trying to understand, when someone says about carb fasting exactly what is meant? All proteins? Proteins and low-carb vegetables? Say, under 40 carbs for the day is carb-fasting? Tue, 6 Sep 2016 10:16:59 EST How do I calculate bone broth? I make my own bone broth (water, 2 T apple cider vinegar, 3 carrots, 1.5 lbs beef bones) and it makes about a gallon. When it's done, I drain everything out so it's just stock/broth.

I have been tracking it in my nutrition tracker but I am not sure that it is accurate. It is a member added recipe.

For 8 ounces, it says it is 69 calories. Tue, 6 Sep 2016 00:11:35 EST Advice on calories and macros Hey everyone, I've just started my lifestyle change, and I'm wanting to lose about 12-14kg. Currently I have my calories set at 1350-1450 per day (after using a TDEE calculator) and my macros at 130-140g carbs, 35-45g fats and 125-150g protein. Rough estimates as I have just started! Any advice on how these numbers are looking would be greatly appreciated. I'm 5'5 and have a desk job so not much movement during the day. Mon, 5 Sep 2016 22:32:08 EST Metformin - Craved sugar even MORE I asked my doctor a few months ago to put me on Metformin since I wasn't losing weight and my sugar has ALWAYS been borderline due to PCOS. It was a total FAIL. I craved sugar SO bad and had NO control. I read an article on here yesterday that my sugar could have been low causing my cravings. Do you think this could be true? Or am I just grasping at straws hoping it wasn't stress eating? Has anyone experienced this? I did stop it, of course, and I'm curious to see if the subside. Sun, 4 Sep 2016 18:52:55 EST Just the act of tracking helps I have been doing SparkPeople for about a week, and it amazes me that just the act of writing down what I eat is helping. I'm not trying very hard to hit the numbers I'm given, I'm just trying to pay attention to them. And what I've noticed is two things:

1. If I plan a meal and track it I am incented to stick with that plan ("I don't want to eat a second serving, I only tracked one and I'm really not that hungry.") and;
2. Just the act of writing down what I ate seems to hel... Sun, 4 Sep 2016 11:30:17 EST A satisfying snack! Sun, 4 Sep 2016 01:06:35 EST Tracking vs Having Fun Hello,

I just received a message from a Spark Coach in response to a question about how to stop my binge and diet cycle. The response was a recommendation that I stop dieting. I also received a link to an article by Dean Anderson called "Finding the Fun in the Weight Loss Journey" (link below). I am confused because at this point I am very bored with tracking after 3 months of carefully counting calories, fiber, protein, and fat. I already eat foods that I like and I also do ph...
