I live in a small town and our tiny natural foods store doesn't carry then, but does have the steel cut oats, so I guess I'll try them first. Glad to know they can be done the same way. Thanks.

Yummy,

Thank you I can't wait. I have been telling everyone about it.

Thanks

I wouldn't use milk to cook them, but you could certainly add mix some in at the end. Often, I'll do that with buttermilk. I find that cooked slowly this way, they have a very creamy texure to start with.

Can you use skim milk instead of water? to make them creamy.

I keep them in my fridge, add rasberries and maple non fat maple syrup.

You can. Use the same recipe and it will turn out fine.

I can hear my nephew's doing that too!

It sounds good, but I can also just hear my 9 year old nephew calling someone an "Oat Groat" as an intended insult! I will look for them, tho.

And do you know if you can do steel cut oats in the crock pot overnight? They take a long time to cook on the stove.

You can't get much easier than that! Thanks for the recipe and I'll be giving it a try soon--once I get to the store and get the oat groats.

Here's the Crockpot recipe. These quantities are for 2 servings.

3/4 cup groats
3 cups water

Put the ingedients in your Crockpot and cook on low for 8-9 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Stir, add in whatever flavorings you like, and enjoy!

Don't be suprised if it looks nasty when you first open the lid. Just stir it up, and you'll have a nice consistancy.

Alright...I googled it and now I know what an oat groat is. But...I would still like to know how to fix them in the crockpot. Thanks. Jeannie

I hate to show my ignorance, but what's a groat? Sounds like a grain of some kind. And, could you tell me more about fixing it in the crockpot? It happens to be my favorite appliance in my kitchen! Jeannie

I use them. They make a great crock pot oatmeal. Just set it up before you go to bed, and breakfast is ready when you get up! Great if you are time challenged in the morning but still want a hot breakfast.

Iknow, I had never seen them. My friend that got me started on SparkPoints turn me on to them. You can get them at a Natural health grocery if you ever want to try them. A little goes a long way.

I've never seen oat groats but have used buckwheat groats (Kasha) which have a strong nutty flavor.
