Low fat versions of many/most foods are diminished in texture and flavor. Why is it that for one or two days we can't just eat the real stuff and then be done with it? I still remember a SP article about all the "delicious" ways to have chocolate without really having chocolate. Not the same. - 12/11/2014 4:13:12 AM
  • Great. I saved it so I can try some of these out. - 8/4/2013 5:30:34 PM
  • A plate full of appetizers are a meal to me when at a party. All you people that just have negative stuff to say...keep it to yourself, I don't need your condecending preaching. - 4/1/2013 4:31:50 PM
Yum! I will be definitely be checking some of these out! - 1/3/2013 5:16:59 PM
  • Although I do try to cut out the fat and calories where I can when I'm cooking, I've never really been a fan of these overly modified snack food. If I relent and make something, it doesn't taste like the original and I still end up craving the full fat version. I think a little bit of what you fancy is fine, and will probably satisfy the craving a lot quicker than the slimmed down substitute. Moderation is really the key, and I find it's easier to try and avoid snacking altogether - but if I do have an uncontrollable urge to eat something, just a taste is not going to matter in the long run. - 4/10/2012 6:41:13 PM
  • I'm with RBALF1 and AZURE SKY. None of these things have much allure -- I really have no yen to eat junk-style grazing foods, whether in "original" or "modified" versions. I don't really enjoy stuff that even "pretends" to be decadent.

Even if the ingredients are healthier, how's that to help keep a lid on how much we eat of them? Snack foods have this bottomless bowl quality....for me, that would not be too good. I'd rather get my decadence elsewhere than food 8-)

  • I'm with Azure Sky. None of these foods appeal to me at all. And none of them ever have. Makes me wonder how I managed to put on the pounds without eating all that. Or, to wonder how much worse it would have been if I did like those kinds of food.
My downfall is always the chocolate and cookies. And portions. - 2/4/2012 11:02:28 AM
I was amazed when I saw the list of foods & their healthier versions. I must be eating better than I thought, because the only food on that list that interested me was the pizza, and I already make my own, including my own fat-free spaghetti sauce.

I've trained my tastebuds to like unsweetened drinks, like plain ice tea, instead of sweet (non-refreshing) things like lemonade. Sweet drinks make me crave more, even if they are artificially sweetened.

I've never liked chicken wings, poppers, or even mozzarella sticks - not fond of fried foods at all. - 8/10/2011 3:15:55 PM
  • Loved all the ideas! The organization of article was helpful too. (Two columns -very clever) - 8/10/2011 9:55:49 AM
  • I love chicken wings!! When I am really craving them I like to have Morning Star Buffalo Wings. I like to think of it as a different food rather than as a substitute. But man it really fixes that craving! - 2/11/2011 1:23:56 PM
  • Wow, this is the best SP article ever--you zeroed in on all my favorites! I had already figured out the deviled eggs and pita pizza on my own, but the boneless "wings" and Jalapeno Poppers sound great. - 9/16/2010 9:59:30 AM
  • I loved this article, loved the low fat options for some of the favorte foods that I crave...but also caused me to gain weight in the first place. So i will definitely have these on standby!! - 3/11/2010 10:50:41 AM
