  • I HAVE A TREADMILL IN MY LIVING ROOM AND HAVE DIABETES AND VERY SELDOM DO I EVER USE IT. IT HAS BEEN LIKE A PIECE OF FURNITURE. MY WORKOUT SHOES ARE LAYING ON IT TOO. OMG. I AM INSPIRED TO GET ON IT. I WANT TO FIGHT DIABETES WITH SERIOUS EXERCISE AND A NUTRITOUS DIET AS I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO USE INSULIN AS MY LATE MOTHER DID. I AM A RETIRED 65 YEAR OLD AND I LOVE SPARKPEOPLE. - 9/10/2012 9:14:15 PM

  • I love the treadmill. I actually bought an elliptical and dont use it ...I usally wind up going to the gym and using the treadmill.. It's a great way to shed pounds quickly. I go about 3 times a week. I started last year. I went from 270 down to 209... not bad

  • i didn't know you weren't supposed to hold onto the handrails when walking on the treadmill... i always hold onto them. not sure if i can do it without... guess we'll have to see. i only use the treadmill anyway when it rains or is very cold outside... i prefer going out to the park and walking the 1.5 mile path around the lake. - 4/24/2012 6:30:33 AM
  • This is a very timely article for me since just yesterday I walked around the treadmills at the gym but felt too intimidated to get on. I didn't know how or where to start! Now I do - thanks! - 11/17/2011 12:43:20 PM

I WILL LIKE TO KNOW ALL ABOUT GETTING USE TO USING A TREDMILL. - 7/27/2011 10:39:01 PM
  • My husband bought me a treadmill for my 30th birthday, right after having a baby. He thought his friends would never let him live it down.... secret was - I begged for one! It is the BEST gift I have ever received. I would latch my baby on in a pack and we would walk for hours! She loved it, I loved it....the treadmill is my best friend! I now take my Nook eReader, hop on and get lost in a story line. Before I know it, I have 2 miles in for the day! Keep working with a treadmill and you will soon find it to be your lifesaver! - 4/13/2011 1:43:00 PM

What happens if I find I cannot run ont the treadmill without holding on. I have a fear of falling off the end of the treadmill and I also have balance concerns. - 4/11/2011 7:15:07 PM

Like a few others here, I was totally intimidated by the treadmill at first! My mom and I joined a gym, she is 70 and I am 49. She had never even been on a treadmill before, and she took to it like a duck to water! She goes steady at about 2 for the speed, for about 10 minutes, then goes onto other machines.

I finally got up the courage to get on it recently. I was scared, because I am so out of shape that I was worried about falling, because my balance right now is terrible. One of the trainers checked me over and found that my core is so weak, that is what is giving me bad balance. So I got on the treadmill, started at lowest speed, 1, and 15 minutes felt like it was going to kill me! Few days later I got on again, bumped speed up to about 2 and did 25 minutes with no problem!

Now I am excited, because I want to keep increasing my speed and incline, and also aim for spending about 60 minutes on the treadmill. When I was younger, slimmer and in better shape, I walked everywhere and enjoyed it. I would like to be that way again!

Maybe I really can do this after all! - 2/21/2011 5:32:01 AM

If you are out of shape or not as healthy as you should be, just use a treadmill 10 minutes a day for a week. Then add an extra 10 minutes per week following. You can eventually work up to 40-60 minutes. Do some stretches, then start out slow. For beginners, this helps so that you don't get an injury. - 12/28/2010 2:15:22 PM

I called the cancer institute - you no longer have to do extension 111, it's a HUMAN! (can you believe it) and the brochure is updated to something called "Stick With It" instead of "Making Strides". They were very nice and it is FREE!! - 9/3/2010 10:22:30 AM
  • Really like my treadmill - and it's something that's pretty easy for me to do on days when I don't feel like the frenetic pace of a floor or step aerobics DVD. Like many folks who posted here, I also watch movies and DVDs from TV shows while I'm the treadmill and that makes the time fly by. I also have a treadmill DVD by Tracy Staehle called Walking Strong that is a pretty tough workout. She uses varying speeds, incline and (some) weights to make a really challenging workout. - 8/14/2010 2:22:06 PM

Love the treadmill. Keep fast pace music handy to walk-it's really motivating. Also keep a journal by treadmill to log in miles, time, etc. JUST DO IT. - 8/13/2010 2:46:48 PM
