Are You a Smart Snacker?
Are your snacking habits healthy--or horrific? Find out how your snacks stack up with this short quiz.
Afternoon hunger pangs hit. What do you do?
Try my best to ignore them until dinner--I don't want to go over my daily calorie goal!
Open up my snack drawer and choose from the healthful, pre-portioned items that I stash for just this occasion.
Head for the vending machine and choose something that'll fill me up fast.
Eat something portion controlled, like a 100-calorie snack pack.
Drink something and see how I feel later.
It's 8 p.m. and your stomach is growling. How do you cope?
Drink some water or herbal tea first, then decide if I'm still hungry enough to eat.
Ignore it. Eating calories that late will just turn into fat!
Eat my planned evening snack before bed.
Ravage the cupboards. I worked hard at the gym today; my body needs those extra calories.
How often are you distracted by work, conversations, children, etc. while snacking?
Often. I'm a master multi-tasker.
On occasion when I'm very busy.
Rarely. I try to prepare my snacks beforehand and eat when distractions aren't present.
I usually have the urge to snack when:
I see or smell food or am offered something to eat.
I feel hungry.
I feel stressed, bored, anxious, or upset.
I'm doing other things like watching TV or using the computer.
Where do you usually eat your snacks?
At the kitchen table or break room table at work.
In front of the television, reading in bed, at my desk or driving in my car.
Sometimes I snack somewhere quiet and other times I snack while doing other things.
When you crave something sweet, what do you usually do?
Nothing. I don't eat sugary foods.
Go for a piece of fresh fruit.
Chew on a piece of fruity, sugar-free gum.
Search for candy, cookies, chocolate--anything to satisfy my sweet tooth!
